Uh, kind of an odd question, but... does anyone know where I can find 50 pound turtle shells?

Hey, uh... I've been giving it some serious thought, and with 18 here and all, the security guard job just... isn't where I want to be at the moment. Nothing against you or the job, I'd just like to try something with a bit more flexible hours and maybe reconnect with something from home. ...So I guess you could say this is my two weeks notice.

That said, if you ever need anything, feel free to give me a call.

[Excuse her a second, Krillin, just going to stare at this video for a moment with this ridiculous fucking question.

What are you going to do with fifty pound turtle shells.

"My sister has a very large tortoise with a very large shell but you cannot have it. So if you see him please leave him be."

[He blushes a bit, realizing just how weird it would sound to anyone not familiar with Roshi's training.]

I was thinking of opening up a dojo. Hours would be more flexible and I could spend more time with you, and it would kinda feel like connecting with home.

See, when Goku and I were kids, Master Roshi had us wear fifty pound turtle shells while we did stuff like delivering milk across a hilly island not far from Kame House. As we got stronger, he'd give us heavier and heavier shells. They're heavy and provide resistance while not limiting range of motion too much. Part of how I got so fast.

Oh! I would never ask to take his shell. One of my master's oldest friends is a turtle, and I've got a lot of respect for the old guy. I only accept shells that aren't currently in use, I promise.

[He grins at the kid, scratching the back of his head awkwardly.]

The short answer is training. When I was your age I wore a turtle shell around everywhere I went to help me get strong.

[You'd think by now she'd sort of accept that weird things happen anywhere remotely related to that old man.]

A dojo, huh? [Though that reasoning for it causes a bit of red to brush her cheeks, even if it's gone before it can be particularly commented on.]

It doesn't sound like a terrible idea, if not a bit... ridiculous in practice. Certainly different than most are around here, that's easy to say. As for finding the shells... Wouldn't it be easier to make something strong enough to be able to add some kind of weight to, instead?

It's something I had considered, yeah. I mean Goku and I both eventually switched over to weighted clothing. It's just... I guess I kinda miss the old coot. He's the closest thing I ever had to a father figure and, if it weren't for him and his training... I'd have never met you.

I owe him, if just for that.

[Krillin stop, stop being sentimental and cute, she cannot handle that. Especially not over the stupid network like this.]

Sometimes you're too sentimental, but I wouldn't have it any other way. [Gods, she can't help her fond tone for him.]

Might have to deal with just weighted clothing, unfortunately, as I don't think turtle shells are going to be terribly easy to come by around here.

... So ya had t'lug around a turtle shell on yer back to get stronger. [Well. There's probably worse ways to try.]

She seemed a lot happier now though that she knew he wouldn't take his shell. "Oh! Mister! I almost forgot. I'm Koishi Komeiji. I'm a satori youkai. My sister is the guardian of Fayren. It's nice to meet you."

[She moves the black strands of hair from her face, placing them behind her ear before speaking.]

You could always buy one from a pet store and kill the turtle for it's shell.

Yeah, I'll probably look into some sort of backpack or something similar. Something where the weight can be easily adjusted. After all, we don't have Kami to make things magically heavier.

Heh, it wasn't just carrying it around. Master Roshi had me up at the crack of dawn, delivering milk all across an island with mountains, ravines, and a particularly nasty T-Rex. Nothing quite like running for your life with one of those shells.

[He grins.] Never know 'til ya try, and even if you can't, we could always find something lighter and work up to it.

[Have a look of deadpan disgust.]

Yeah, no. I'm not going to just kill a turtle for its shell. I'm not looking to hurt anything, lady.

Training, actually. My master had a rather unique brand of physical conditioning that really worked wonders for me, and I was thinking of opening a dojo here and passing along his teachings.

"Yup! Carnivorous psychic mountain monsters! That's me and my sister!" She still seemed quite cheerful. "It's okay though. Most people don't think we're real until now. Or they think we were supposed to be hairy and ape like. That's silly!"

Something he said seemed to click. "Oh? Orin Temple? There's a temple here in Genessia?" She tilted her head. "I used to go to the Myouren Temple back home. The Miss with the lovely hair said I was close to enlightenment. But that's silly. My head is empty but I'm not enlightened... She was nice and really sincere so I stayed anyway though."

...How does that work exactly?

[He was curious. Not that he would ever try it out himself really though.]

And if it was your only option, then what? You got no shells to use then.

[She doesn't much care for looks, just like she doesn't much care for people. It was fun to mess with them.]

[He takes a moment, trying to recall the stories the other acolytes told him in an attempt to scare him. If worse came to worse, he could always try telling stories... Satori seemed to like that, and boy howdy did he ever have stories...]

Oh, no, Orin Temple is the temple I grew up in, back in my world. Though if your head is empty, you probably would be closer to enlightenment than most. Right up there with Goku.

For starters, I don't believe in "only option" situations. There are always alternatives when you look. For example, there's this thing called a backpack that could accomplish the same goal.

This is gonna sound weird, but... I wore it while delivering milk. Of course the island that I was delivering on had steep mountains, rolling hills, and hungry dinosaurs, but just wearing something that heavy while doing mundane tasks really worked the muscles used the most during those tasks. I remember when Master Roshi first told me to take off my shell and jump, I thought I was gonna hit the moon my body felt so light.

So even if there was something or someone trying to kill you, you would 'find another option' and believe they could be your friend instead of the whole kill or be killed. If you say no, they would have to be killed then I will get a good laugh at someone being a hypocrite.

But yet in the world there are people who do in fact kill turtles for their shell, so maybe using the backpack is your best option now you know where the shells might actually come from.

That sounds really tough... but pretty amazing as well since it went right. Though... why did you need to train like that in the first place?

I don't back down from fights. Wouldn't be much of a fighter if I did. But I'm not going to go out and kill a turtle just so I can train someone, and I'm not going to judge someone who hunts turtles for whatever reason.

Selfish reasons, really. At first anyway. See... when I was a baby, my parents left me at a place called Orin Temple. The acolytes there trained as martial artists and monks. I was always the smallest, untalented, and uncoordinated. The other acolytes bullied me nonstop. So, when I was 13, I ran away to find the legendary Turtle Hermit - a martial artist unparalleled strength and skill - so he could teach me to get back at my bullies.

...What I found was the closest thing I ever had to a father in Master Roshi, and a best friend in Goku.

Satori youkai did indeed like stories. And with their powers they were known as some of the greatest storytellers. Usually in exchange for sharing the fire and food of mountain travelers. Or so the stories about them described.

Of course meeting a satori on a cold mountain road was just as likely to end fatally.

"Nooo. My head broke when I ripped my mind reading ability out. That's why it's empty, see?" She lifted her hat a bit, the scar above her temple quite visible. She let her hat go, straightening it. "It's okay though. My power lies in the subconscious mind now. And I like that power a lot more."

So hypocrite it is, got it. Willing to kill someone yet everything else deserves a chance no matter what. Typical. Though this would be more interesting, but when really your about the same as every other person.

[Yugi couldn't help but frown slightly. He understood bullying all to well, but he never would have done something like that, but that was mostly because he just was not the type, but as he thought about it, he was glad the other found friends and a father figure in the end.]

I'm glad that you didn't decide to get back at the bullies and found something important.

[Krillin winces slightly at the scar.]

Yikes.. that can't have been comfortable. Still, reminds me of my friend Goku. Apparently when he was a little baby he was a violent kid until he fell on his head and had a complete 180 personality change.

Everyone deserves a chance. I only step in when the choices a person makes endangers others.

Oh, I got my chance to get back at them... but when I did, it didn't really matter to me anymore. I stepped into the ring with the guy who made my life miserable for 13 years... and all I could think about was how I was going to push my friend Goku past his limits and how he would do the same to me.

Heck, the fight was over before it barely begun.

And then there is no other choice. Blah, blah, blah same old, same old. Just an excuse to look macho.

Lady, my wife could kick my ass and I'm barely 4 feet tall. Looking macho isn't exactly high on my list of priorities.

Well I guess since it didn't matter what's good. But, I guess it's nice to know that I'm not the only one whose dealt with people of the bullying kind.

Well that is amusing. Sort of, but oh well.

[She doesn't have much to say except being rude and just cutting off while yawning.]

I-it's not that bad, honest. It was a tournament, and I just kinda... let them fall out of the ring.

Not yet. If need be though, I could always just use weighted backpacks.

If you need weighted packs and suits and shit for that kinda training, I saw a shop in Nova selling these slick pieces that use some weird ass local technosorcery to adjust the weight of the suit to ridiculous degree w/o making shit break around them. Interested?

Oh! [Well that makes it better if it was that kind of thing, even if he wouldn't agree to it.]
