(Marie seems to be standing in the middle of her shop by herself and staring down at a wooden weapon in her hands. She had been practicing all day and now that it was growing dark - she wondered when this would start to feel natural or even come to her without any thought, without having to constantly reposition her hands or her arms or even her feet. Then her eyes glance over to a small stack of books sitting on a table in the back corner and she remembers that she needs to also start reading more, that it was supposed to help her. "No, that could wait a few more minutes - just once more."

This will be the time she doesn't need to fix a mistake. "But - what is I am trying to do, again?"

She finds herself glancing back at the wooden weapon in her hand.

"NO."

"I have to do this and do this right."

"I have to be able to do this.")

....

(She quickly re-positions herself in a defensive stance but then sighs. Her feet feel...well, it feels wrong and she glances down to see they are only slightly off.)

Scheisse.

(Then she tries to adjust them - only taking a moment before it felt more comfortable.) This is...no, this can't be right... is it?

[Belle need to go to a few stores and today she just so happened to walk into Marie. She didn't know why she needed to, but she wanted to. When she saw the weapon in her hands just as she entered thought she couldn't help but smile.]

You train while working too?

(She jumps a bit and glances over at Belle, nodding her head and laughing softly for a moment before speaking.)

Well, it's probably not the best time or place, but it has been slow today and well, since all that snow started to come down, so...I should at least try to train since I can.

(She lowers the object in her hands.)

And, I think I need all the practice I can get too.

I think doing it whenever is possible is a good thing. When the library is quiet that's what I do in a private area.

[She has yet to get caught there as well and it helps that really not many people work where she does.]

How about we both practice sometime, though what weapon are you practising for?

Yeah, I wouldn't be trying to practice if the shop was busy - don't want to accidentally knock someone over or anything.

I know once it gets warmer, I'll do this outside. It's still too easy for me to almost break things.

(Marie is just thankful and lucky that she owns the shop - she has a little bit more leeway in what she does during the day.)

I would like that. (She smiles.) I'm supposed to be learning how to handle a sword, but it doesn't feel right to me to use... but maybe, I'm still not used to it either.

Who are you learning from?

[She knew she had her own teacher and was learning to use a sword since that weapon just felt right for that kind of thing, but she wondered who else might be teaching.]

Who I'm learning from? Her name is Aqua.

(Marie really wouldn't know if anyone else was teaching this sort of skill around this place.)

Looks like we both have the same teacher then.

[It wasn't surprising that she was teaching others, she kind of expected it, but she couldn't help but be a tiny bit glad that she finally met another. It looked like they were learning the same kind of weapon as well.]

We're also learning the same weapon, so we have a couple things in common.

You too? (Marie smiles.) Yeah, I'm learning how to use a sword, but...well, do you mind me asking a question?

Well, I was wondering, how are you doing with it?

(She pauses.)

I'm trying, but it still doesn't feel quite right to me...

Ask away. [She was pretty good at answering anyway as she kept her arms at her side, eyes on the other and wondering what the question will be exactly. When she did ask she paused, thinking on it.]

Well I am doing okay with it, but considering where I came from it wouldn't be a surprise that I could handle a sword. Though yet I feel comfortable with a crossbow as well.

[She figured she wanted to hear more.]

If it doesn't feel right, it usually means it's not the right weapon for you. That you'll have to keep trying with others.

[Nagisa was standing by the entrance to the store and had been watching for at least one minute before he finally decided to actually speak up. All the while with a smile on his face.]

I can't say if it's right or not, but... what are you doing?

(Marie freezes in place and stumbles with her words for a second before finally finding them again.)

I'm training...well, trying to. I can't say I'm used to holding a weapon or anything yet. It feels weird still.

Why are you holding a weapon? I mean you mentioned training, but why would you need to.

[He couldn't help but tilt his head slightly for a moment.]

(Marie shakes her head.) It's just to learn self-defense. My old world, well, it's hard to explain but I probably should have learned that sort of thing there...

So, since the opportunity presented itself here...I decided to go for it. I probably won't need it here, but...if I ever end up back home, then... and I can't really be a burden on my boyfriend anymore. It's not fair to him.

(An answer without an answer.)

I guess if you do go home knowing that will be a good thing, but then it sounds like your world is not a good one.

[Especially since she mentioned being a burden and all that. He can't say he really understood it really.]

It's...not all that bad, my world isn't all bad, really. I mean, there are some good things about my world, a few that I definitely miss.

(A pause.)

It was more the situation than anything else.

If you don't want to ask, I won't bother you about it.

[Right now anyway, he knows and understands about having to sometimes keep problems to oneself until they are out in the open of course.]

Though... I don't think it would be wise to use wooden swords in whatever situation it is unless it's really a child's imagination.

I owe you an explanation one day, I think.

(Marie tilts her head slightly.) Actually using this? (She stares at the wooden item in her hand with a raised eyebrow.) You know, I have to agree that it's probably a bad idea.

(She frowns.)

I would hope I don't have to even think about it, but if it's all I have...I guess I could swing and run away.

You could, though fighting and that kind of thing... not really something I know anything about, or... want to.

[Fighting was not his strong point, swimming was and if he actually paid attention, school would be as well.]

Just use your head though if anything ever happens.

[Kahlan doesn't know anything about Scooters but she's trying to get used to Genessia. She knows that Richard really doesn't like the large city but she's determined to learn what she can to help him. Which includes moving through Nova City, Genessia, Attleton and Everglade.

Fayren she'll leave to Richard.

When she steps pasted the shop she doesn't think anything of it. It isn't until she sees the girl practicing that she stops and steps back. The door rings slightly as she steps inside.]

This seems like an odd place to practice.

[Kahlan's skilled with her two short daggers.]

(Marie nearly drops the practice weapon that she is holding and she quickly glances over looking more than a little surprised.

She begins to find herself rambling.)

Yeah, it's not really...the best place in the world to practice this sort of thing even after moving a couple tables back, but it's completely dead these days and I don't really think I should close up either. I guess it is the snow. Makes it hard to drive a scooter, yeah?

(The beach was a better place to have this kind of shop. Really.)

And I have to practice... try to get used to it.

[Kahlan raises an eyebrow but smiles at the other girl.]

That's a good idea.

[Her head tilts slightly.]

Is it alright if I interrupt? I don't know what a scooter is.

No, it's fine. I think I am overdue for a break.

You don't know what a scooter is, huh? (She nods.) Well, I suppose I'm the right person to ask.

There's some outside, do you mind me showing you one before I try explaining - it might help some.

[Kahlan nods acting like a perfect student. She's here to learn about this place all for the sake of the Seeker.]

Seeing it might help. I don't have a bases of knowledge for these things.

[She isn't an engineer though she wants to know what's dangerous and what isnt.]

(Marie sets the practice weapon down and walks over to grab her coat. Then she walks over to the door.)

They are just outside. I may not know every piece that makes one up, but I can try to explain what I can.

(She opens the door then pauses.)

Basically...you ride them places, you can use them to get around. They aren't very complicated to use, but they take some people some getting used to.

So they are like automobiles but smaller?

[The word automobiles sounds awkward when Kahlan says it as if she hasn't said it many times before. She looks over the small machine curiously before shaking her head. She's definitely more comfortable with a horse over anything like this.]

Why do you ride these over horses?

[She just doesn't understand it.]

Why? You know, I never thought of why...

I mean, they were just what people did in my world. If it wasn't scooters then it was cars. If not those buses and if not buses then trains or boats.

People sometimes rode horses, but I never got around to trying it. (Marie pauses.) They're also hard to take care of aren't they?

[Kahlan shakes her head.]

You just need to know what you're doing which I'm sure is similar to taking care of these things. [She lightly taps the scooter looking at it like she doesn't believe it.]

Thank you for the explanation though. I'm lost in this world when it comes to things like this.

Don't worry about it. I don't mind explaining things like this, but I didn't really explain anything...at least I'm not sure how much good it did.

(Marie smiles a bit.)

I mean, we all come from different places, right?

(She then gets an idea. Whether or not it's a good one? Well, that's questionable.)

Hm, well, how about I teach you how to ride one sometime?

[That idea surprises Kahlan.]

It isn't hard?

[She isn't intimidated but she is worried. She lightly trails her fingers across the cold metal.]

How would you teach me?

No, just might take some getting used to is all. But, it's actually very easy once you get the hang of it.

(Marie pauses and thinks.)

Well, I suppose I could show you how and then we can go from there...I'd probably have to grab a key first...

(She pauses.)

How does that sound?

[Kahlan nods quickly.]

Sounds good. I'll... wait here.

[She takes a steps against the wall and waits to see what Marie and the machine.]
