[A voice comes on over the feed. It's been a while since Artanis addressed the community as a whole, but certainly not the first time his voice has been broadcast using this device. As before, it has a very noticeable echo to it, much like the popular depiction of telepathy. Psychics may even notice that it is telepathically based.]

I greet you once again, fellow inhabitants. Once again, I find myself seeking out advice from those who have more experience with matters in this place.

Ever since I arrived, I have been searching for a job that fits my capabilities, yet...nothing has come up. I'm afraid I am ill-suited to many of the tasks that are posted for employment.

[He's also going out of his way to avoid customer service jobs. There's no way a seven-foot tall, grey-skinned, telepathic alien without a nose or even mouth would work at making a good first impression.]

So, I must ask, are there any other sources I can seek out for employment? Ideally, a position that makes use of the skills I've gleaned would be best, if one is available. My experiences lie in the fields of politics, strategy and tactics, hand-to-hand combat, and technology -- even the level of technology in Nova City is old-fashioned compared to the society I hail from. I understand that these traits may not be necessarily in demand in a place such as Genessia, but it cannot hurt to get confirmation.

We just had guardian elections, so I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to run. Although I doubt you could have successfully gotten office being a newcomer either way. The election was very contested.

Perhaps you might talk to Weiss about offering your expertise as a deputy guardian, however?

I was present for the elections, though I only felt a token interest in them. I wasn't informed enough of the politics of this world to participate in the process.

Weiss Schnee is the guardian of Nova City, yes? I wasn't aware she was hiring.

Guardians each have their own process for running their cities. She might decide she needs no guardians, or she might employ many. It's not a position they tend to advertise for. The worse that can happen is she politely declines.

I suppose it's possible she might rudely decline, so perhaps be prepared for that.

She has that sort of reputation? No matter. I'm sure I have dealt with worse.

I would, but I am not so skilled in the art of phasesmithing that I can make anything beyond the basics. What's more, I'm lacking in components that can only be obtained on a select few worlds.

Yes. That would probably be the best interim solution. Particularly those that require subduing a target or some other form of physical activity -- more than anything, I have utmost faith in my abilities as a warrior.

Everyone here are far too obsessed with finding occupations.

People need to sustain themselves, and in order to do that, they need to work. In addition, gainful employment helps a person mentally -- it gives them a sense of purpose and accomplishment.

Such things are hardly necessary. One can spend time on much more fruitful endeavors.

I beg to differ. Without people working a myriad of jobs, society cannot exist. It is the variety in goods and services that employment provides that allows us to live as we do in the modern age.

The chaos it it not working as it should is quite entertaining, however.

What sort of research? Do you know of any opportunities that might be available, in greater detail?

There's a research institute in Genessia. At the moment, they only have one employee. I'm sure she'd love the help. Do you know anything about medicine or anatomy?

...I am afraid I do not. My familiarity with more advanced technology is just that -- a familiarity. It is not and never has been my specialty. And none of that lies in medicine or anatomy.

Ah, I see. Perhaps it's time to pick up a new trade, then.

There have been a number of names that she's been trying to decide between and she isn't sure she wants to add another name to that list. The voice reverb makes her a little uncomfortable, but he'd hardly be the strangest person she has in her employ. I do not have the materials here to recreate the technology that my people are accustomed do, but I can certainly demonstrate my own adeptness at the technology present in Nova City. I can also demonstrate my other skills provided sufficient methods of doing so, perhaps at the "Holodeck'd" establishment. Would that be acceptable?

I was hoping for a demonstration of your other talents more than with technology. Technologically, that's something that can be adapted to with ease, particularly if you're more advanced. Holodeck'd is acceptable. We should meet tomorrow.

That would be perfectly acceptable for me. However, there is one concern I feel I must address before we meet in person.

Not at all.

I have non-humans who live with me, who work for me, and who are my friends. As long as you're capable, respect my privacy, and I don't have reason to suspect you're up to something sinister, there won't be a problem.
