[Since the whole mayor thing, was up, Fai had been getting a lot of people coming to him. Yes they were worried and of course that meant he had to do his job and do what they asked of him. So he had and soon as night came by, Fai didn't even go inside for the curfew. He had good reason. As he switched on the feed, he was giving off some kind of smug grin.]

So with Everglade we have the whole Mayor thing going on and the new law. I don't have much of a say obviously as those types of laws are what the Mayor is for. Hooowever... [He leant back slightly, he could hear the howling in the background. Yes they were out and yes, he wasn't obeying said laws.]

I still have all rights to any and all laws that involve protection and safety of not only normal people, but creatures of the night. I'm saying this because I've been visited by a good number of people today, asking for protection at night. I guess it helps that they are scared, but I believe people shouldn't be afraid in their own homes, so I did my job.

[He turned the phone around to a near by house. Most might notice it wasn't normal. There was something about it that was different. For those who know of magic would know it is a very powerful barrier. After a moment he turned the camera back around.]

I think I've done my job really well, don't you? It will activate every night at curfew time and will only go down when curfew is over. So if any vampire, werewolf or any other thinks they can get a nice little bite to eat will find they will have to get it elsewhere. Or use their time to actually bring fear to other creatures of the night or stray people. [He raised a finger up to bring up a point.]

Scaring only, of course. If they don't, I'll make them fear something if I have to. [He gives off such a charming smile, but really had something of a creepy feel to it. He was serious after all.]

Finally, a Guardian that knows how to do his job without trampling on the rights of others to do it.

It's my job to take everyone into consideration anyway.

[He wasn't one for making laws and rules anyway, he knew that was never his job to do as it could change the world for the worse rather than better.]

Which is more than the previous guardian could say for sure.

The only thing he did was ban necromancy. That didn't really target anyone except those who used it.

And yet it caused quite the uproar. A large portion of Everglade's population either rely on necromancy for their continued existence. What he did in reality was remove the right to exist for a good many.

However it also stopped people from moving on who wanted to. I mean I'm not fully against necromancy, I understand why people use it. But then there are people who use it for selfish reasons and keep a person alive who had accepted there death and wanted to move on.

This seemed to be a theme I've found when I sent Sakura to speak to the actual ghost population. It's why if such a thing is around, I would rather people do it so long as they had permission before hand.

I will not deny that necromancy has the potential to do harm. Necromancy - like all magic - is a tool, and just as a hammer can be used to build, it can just as easily cave in a skull, depending on who is holding the handle. Which is why I found the ban itself ludicrous.

I do admit I agree about that when it comes to magic and even with the ban, my guess would be that people would have gone underground and done it regardless. So really... it didn't do much except rile people up.

At least now I asked the mayor to get rid when I first came into office the amount of annoyed people went down.

[She's so relieved to hear from him after that "mayor's" broadcast. She figures he'll be able to help her understand better what's going on.]

I knew I made the right choice, voting for you. I'm still trying to understand what's happening, though. What are these "creatures of the night?" Is it really necessary for them to attack humans?

[Perhaps these creatures may be akin to the Beastclans of Sornieth.]

Vampire, werewolves... There are many others but I can't exactly be certain on the list if I haven't seen them. Sure not all are necessarily creatures of the night, but there are many that do only seem to come put at night. In some cases like vampires they need blood to survive so attacking humans is what they tend to do.

Not always, but tend to. But I guess some prefer to attack humans while others I am sure leave well alone.

...So this curfew really is necessary for everyone's safety? The way that person was talking sounded like you had done something wrong...

[Had the Mayor just talked about Ted rather than "Guardians" in general, she might have even agreed.]

I don't know...some things he was saying just seemed off. Then again, I'm not familiar with "laws" or "government" in general. We just find our place in the world with our clans.

Without the barriers I would have said no because for all I know they would attack peoples houses and with the curfew they would have been unable to leave. You can guess what would have happened.

[It did sound like he had done something.]

Yeah I heard that. I've only been in office for like two weeks. The only thing I put into effect was getting rid of the law Ted put in and I actually did ask the Mayor for that one. He had been involved.

[Azalea sighs. She still wonders why the mayor would say that his office would need to be "freed" from the Guardians' control, but she doubts she would really understand anyway.]

I wonder if I should try exploring Everglade one night...to see what kinds of creatures are there.

You can since the curfew doesn't count for you and if you do get attacked, I know you'll be able to defend yourself.

[He would however help should they ever ask though. Not just because it's his job, but because he would want to anyway.]

"Oh aye, that is some very nice looking warding work, there, sir..." Maria smiles encouragingly into the camera. "I don't think I could have done better myself, as an Auror, quite honestly.... And yet, I wouldn't sit back on your laurels just yet.

"I mean, seriously? I don't think that that sort of warding will keep out a determined human with a mind for vengeance, or hatred of his own kind, or whatever.... I mean, I could see fit to-- amend the warding, if you want me to...?" Her smile turns a little hopeful, as she considers the idea of being "Employed" by the Guardian's Office again.

I'm not planning on sitting back. Barriers aren't perfect, but I try my best anyway.

[But for people he actually had an answer to this one.]

I think most people would know if this law is in place not to go out in case someone would get them. So I don't think that will happen all to much with human attacking human in a household.

[Cipher had silently wondered what the action of the Everglade Guardian would be after that announcement from the Mayor, and he has to admit to himself, he's actually impressed. So he'll appear on the video feed, with his 'Liam' appearance.]

I'm glad to see that the Guardian's taken steps to aid both humans and other creatures without punishing them for their very nature. Although the law enacted did appear to heavily favor night dwellers without much regard for humans.

[Not that he cares much for any mortal creature's well being, but Liam has to keep up appearances.]

I figured that much. I mean I don't know then exact history of Everglade like who was here first and what not, but I intend to make sure everyone is treated fairly and the barrier for the city stays up without needless killing.

[Because even if he wanted Everglade to be what it was meant to be, there were limits.]

Many would not be so lenient, and would simply be quick to kill the inhuman creatures who are merely doing what they need to survive. You should be commended for not even considering the same genocidal route that many others would have.

[Sure, Cipher had every intention to be among said 'creatures of the night' when he needed to be, but Fai's stance was actually refreshing for once.]

That is why I don't. I understand people like vampires need blood, but there are ways around there need to kill and I guess if they wanted that help I could help in that area. Other creatures I don't know so much about, but I'm learning.

However scaring one another without killing would bring the fear, but not the needless killing of one another.

[To hear someone refer to vampires as 'people' ... how surprising.]

But I must inquire. Are you certain these barriers would be able to keep all forms of creature out? I do not doubt your abilities, as I'm sure you were chosen as Guardian for a reason, but I would assume vampires and werewolves are among the least of this city's concerns.

Oh, I know there are probably many more beside them. I've been here over a year and know what else lurks around here.

Forgive my questioning. I'm still a little unfamiliar with the area, so I wanted to ensure to myself that the Guardian was well prepared.

It's fine, it's perfectly normal to want to question someone.

I was present here when that army had appeared the night before the mayor's announcement. I hope no one was injured?

As far as I can tell no one was hurt and no one was attacked. So I find that to be good at least.

It depends. I mean as I use more magic, my magical power increases, so right now I could go all night with just the spell.

[Basically he feels the more power he has the longer he could keep it up, so that was at least good.]

of course if people do try to enter, I would have to fix it. So I guess it would all depend on that factor.

[What the heck, that's no fair! There must be a setback somewhere.]

Well my power increases. It's actually complicated to go into detail about it.

More than likely, some might think I'm kidding after all.

I'll bet. Is the power increase limited to the first spell? Or can you keep casting more with your extra power?

[Dairine scowls at the idea of someone not taking him seriously.]

In a place like Everglade, you'd like they'd be more aware of how dangerous magic can be.

It increases with each spell I do. So it will increase each and every time I cast a spell. Including the same one over and over.

[He shakes there head slightly.]

They don't, but this is what they are use to, so I don't want to change it too much.

Well, that sounds awfully convenient.

[Dairine wonders how many use that multiple casting trick in his world.]

Just because it's what they're used to doesn't make it right. Not if innocent people are being preyed on.

[Or if it starts increasing the local entropy levels too high.]

True, but then you would have to think of people who eat meat. Aren't we killing poor innocent animals to eat in order to survive? Same can be said for vampires and other creatures.

Vampires however can actually eat various other types of blood, but they still need blood regardless. Same can probably be said of werewolves, but I don't know as much about them, but I am getting there.

However my reason for not changing to much is because we could change a world for the worst rather than the better, so being careful of my actions.

[Dairine might sound a slight bit miffed. Wizards are no strangers to the difficult balance between intervening and keeping things how they naturally are meant to be. While killing increases entropy, so would starving a species to death. Most strive to interfere as little as possible, at least under normal circumstances.]

[Sadly, there is little data on what wizards are supposed to do with undead creatures, assuming they are peaceful. Most kinds they encounter are mindless servants of the Lone Power, ones too dangerous to do anything with but destroy. As for vampires... they died out centuries ago.]

The thing is, there is a certain understanding between creatures in the animal kingdom. They're far more aware of the circle of life and death that comes with being eaten. [At least that's what she got about the whales and sharks. Thanks Neets.] Humans – or at least ones from earth – are far less aware of that, especially when it comes to supernatural predators. That puts them at far more of a disadvantage when it comes to these situations.

As far vampires and werewolves, I don't mind them living there. Or other cities if they want. I just hold them to a certain degree of mindfulness about their feeding habits. That way there's less damage to other residents.

Oh, I get that circle of life. People have to kill something in order to live, but I found with looking at previous reports, they aren't mindful sometimes.

[Some kill too much he spotted looking at them.]

Not all, I will add, but just some.

Somehow that doesn't surprise me.

[She's met werewolves and vampires who were thoughtful and nice enough. But somehow invading a town with a freaking army didn't give her that impression.]

It doesn't and that is just the way it is. But I've done all I can now at least.

[She'll gladly help if there's another invasion or the new law spirals out of control.]
