Where did courage go? [Public Video]

"Has anyone seen one Mamoru? He's a young boy. Brown hair, green eyes, speaks at length about the virtue of courage. Prone to near-suicidal flights of fancy. I've been trying to get in touch [for all of one day] and he hasn't responded. Is he doing all right?"

EDIT: His last name is "Amami". He also goes by "Latio".

[Levy's brows furrow slightly.]

I haven't seen him, do you think he's gone?

[She can ask Anastasia since they both lived in the children's home together.]

[He sounds a little grim, but good idea on the children's home]

He better not have.

[Levy has tried to look after both him and Anastasia.]

I'm going to the Children's home to check. I'll let you know when I hear.

[She doesn't even wait to go running off and in her haste she forgets to turn off her phone so Ted gets a lovely view of the ground as she runs down the street.]

"All right, thank you." After a few hours, when Anastasia posted...

"I take it nothing's come up. Were you able to find any possessions of his, at least?"

[Levy looks at her phone and then shakes her head.]

No, I haven't found anything.

[Except the book she had given him a few months back.]

He didn't wanna be too glum, so he'd revert back to the things he used to say as her boss. "All right, seems you've done all you can. Good work. I'll...think of something to do."

[Levy isn't in a mood to argue or question Ted's phrasing. Instead she nods her head and flicks off the feed. She needs to go see Anastasia; there is no telling how the young girl will take his disappearance.]

[Ronan is quiet for a moment while he's trying to place the name.]

I don't think I know the kid, Ted.

He sighed. "That's to be expected; he was here before you."

[And so long as he's thinking about people who up and disappear...]

"Are you doing all right, Ronan? I know we haven't talked much ever since the...you know."

Yeah. [He scoffs.] And look what happened to the place after you left.

[He shakes his head.] I'm good. I've...learned way more than I ever wanted to know about flowers, but I'm good. What about you?

A trace of a smile appeared. It made his ego swell to think of Everglade's present turmoil as somehow resulting from his absence, like "It's a Wonderful Life". But more than that he was happy to know that Ronan, at least, still persevered.

"I confess I didn't see horticulture in your future. As for myself, I'm recollecting. I haven't given up, I just...need to find a new angle, to borrow your police parlance."

Yeah, well, a friend let me stay with her until I could find something more permanent. She happens to run a flower shop, so I help her out. [He smirks that sarcastic smirk of his that he only gets when he lets himself relax and just...be him, instead of business him.] Mostly, I just run the register and ask guys looking for flowers how much the pissed her off.

[He nods.]

So, you're planning on running again, huh? Well, your angle sure as hell isn't letting Dracula and the Undead Brigade slaughter innocent people if they have to run for milk after sunset, so you've got that in your corner.

He chuckled. "What a romantic; the kind born from personal experience, no doubt. As for running, well, that's as may be. But something ought to be done sooner than four month's time, unless you'd like me to head an insurrection." The thought of Fai swinging from a lamppost did have a certain appeal. Then again, maybe this was one of those hard lessons Ted desperately didn't want Everglade to learn; that dallying with evils has consequence. Boy were those in full swing.

"As for what the exact nature of that 'something'...well, I have faith it'll come to me." Ted had lost quite a bit of faith in the Guardian position, given recent developments. That Ronan still thought it was up to the task of real good struck him curiously.

[That caught Ronan's attention.]

You're planning on trying to do something about the situation over there? You got an army to back you up?

[Ted really has no clue at the moment. Satsuki said she had something planned for him; some mysterious power he could gather. Until then...]

"Heh, not quite. No doubt force helps, but do you think that's the ultimate solution? Maybe the true battle doesn't lie in flesh and blood, but powers and principalities. It's a spiritual city, and it won't be saved until it has a soul that wants it. Guardians can't legislate a soul; arms can't blast one into them. There's got to be something else.

Sorry, rambling again. Let's just look for Mamoru, and the bright side; maybe this is the kind of wake-up call that can rouse slumbering spirits." [Ted would be lying if he thought that Everglade wasn't, in some respect, asking for it. The best he could hope for now was that the experience would be a teachable moment.]

[He scoffs, shaking his head. He never had a chance to get used to Ted's rambling, but that didn't stop him for brushing it off.]

Sure, if they don't kill each other before they find a clue. [And he shakes his head.] Where'd you see him last?

"Heh, finding clues is your specialty, not theirs. For now it seems all we can do is keep them in our prayers.

As for Mamoru, I confess to having not seen him; physically, anyway, for months. The last time was in some god-forsaken forest in Fayren. He made a network broadcast about a week later, and since then...nothing." [He was starting to feel kind of guilty about that]

Yeah, something like that. [Ronan isn't so sure, but he's willing to give benefits and doubts.]

Fayren, huh? [He can't say he's ever investigated anything there.] Might be worth a shot to ask around.

"I haven't seen him lately either. This isn't like him to go quiet for so long..."

Being one to jump to conclusions, that clinched it for Ted. He recognized her as one of Mamoru's closest friends, having spent most of the day browsing feeds for mentions of him.

"I see...I'm sorry."

"If you hear anything about him, will you tell me? Please?"

[It certainly was apparent that Mamoru meant a lot to her.]

"Of course. Go under the Mercy."

Hm, yes, I remember meeting him briefly before... I'll keep my eye out.

Given the ambiguous wording, Ted took that his message to mean "I just saw him", rather than prior to some left off advent.

"You did? Oh thank goodness. What was the date you saw him last? The place?"

Oops, he didn't mean for it to be interpreted like that.

"Oh, non, I meant that I knew the boy in question... I haven't seen him since Gilgamesh took over Attleton."

"Oh, right of course." Damn. "Well, thank you for your assistance."
