Prompt 1 | Library

[When Adachi was still in school, he enjoyed spending time at the Library. It was the most calm place he could find to study - the place where he could concentrate the best. So it had been a nostalgic choice for him to choose this as one of his work places. Not that he enjoyed the boredom, it was just good for money. Better than his other job, where he didn't really earn much.

Besides, with Yukiko AND Naoto around, he's pretty sure they'd ruin his changes of signing up for any police forces. Not that he actually cared for being a cop, but that was his job in the end. He wouldn't have minded continuing and that way... well, help his other ambitions.

Well, it was no use in thinking about it, surely. Adachi would just continue his job and observing anyone who came to the library in the progress.]

Prompt 2 | Genessia: Adachi's apartment/His office (Sunset Summit 310)

[The man's other job was keeping his own, small detective agency. Not big enough to actually advertise it, but big enough to leave pamphlets around Genessia for people to notice. "Freelancer Detective Adachi - always on duty when there's a crime to solve". What a stupid catch-phrase, but an effective one if he wanted to earn money for himself with this as well. Besides, sometimes solving crimes was kinda fun.]

Prompt 3 | Lunch break

[Every man needed their rest. Adachi often found himself eating a sandwich he found on sale and drinking cheap coffee in a park when he had a lunch break. Not the best meal ever, but at least it was something. Even if the sandwich tasted kind of bad.

... and his stomach grumbled. Great. Maybe he should at least think about eating something more nutritious for once.]

Ted enjoyed nature walks, though more for his pet's sake than his own. Thus, Adachi would see a blond young man with a spooky tree trotting by his side. That same blond man caught Adachi in his sights and, feeling sociable, approached.

"Good afternoon! Didn't I see you at the Valentine's auction? Your write-up was pretty good; every bit as handsome as it said, in fact. Enough to get two girls fighting over you, if I remember correctly. How was it?"

That is a spooky tree. He remembers seeing at the auction though. What on earth is it anyway? The owner looks familiar too - but it's only apparent why once he starts talking. Oh.

... he talks a lot.

"It was rather exciting to have such a heated battle." Consisting of 1 redbill mostly so the comment is actually sarcastic. "The date itself was... interesting."

Ted, judging how he assumed the vacant spot on the bench, was feeling very sociable indeed. Trevenant waved at the stranger, amicability at odds with its gnarled looks. "Aha, a perfect gentleman who won't kiss and tell. I'm sure whoever the winner was was entirely fortunate. I'm Ted, by the way." He offered his hand. "How are you getting along, here? In Genessia I mean."

Adachi shook his hand, since it was only polite. "I'm Adachi. I've been fairing well so far. I received a nice job and all." Even if it was mostly boring, but whatever. "Have you been around for long?"

"Yes, about a year and a half. Seems we're for it for the long term. That's Japanese, isn't it? So many of you come here; I've got to wonder why this place has a special liking for you. Is it true what they say; that orientals are only comfortable when there's a lot of them to go around?"

He really talked a lot. "That's right, I'm Japanese. I wouldn't know about that too. I don't really enjoy being in crowds."

[Ted would not be defeated by these conversational closes; when one door opens, and all that. No matter how obvious Adachi made his contempt.]

"Huh, and here I thought Japan was a very crowded place, being an island and everything. Must be nice to have more open spaces. What do you enjoy, then?"

[After Koishi's death and subsequent revival, Luke's kept to himself. He's kept the tea shop open as usual and gone about his business as close to normal as he can, but he's otherwise avoided most people if possible. Which is why he's at the library again getting something new to read.

All of fourteen, he places two books on the reception desk--that he was hardly a head taller than. If Adachi looked carefully at, he might wonder what a kid his age was doing with a copy of Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Edgar Allen Poe (which will definitely keep him up).

Or he might not care. Who knows.]

Hello, sir. May I check this out, please? [Luke is fumbling through his pocket looking for his library card.] I've returned the book I borrowed--put it in the bin earlier, when I came in.

[Well now, this is really an interesting book for someone so young. Adachi smiles at him as he takes the books and his card to check them.]

This is an interesting book. I've read it myself when I was in school. The mysteries are thrilling.

[Luke nods, a bit shyly, at Adachi.] Um...yessir.

I read a little bit already. [As Adachi returns the book to him, Luke flips the book open to The Telltale Heart.] It's a little bit scary, but I like the way Mr. Poe describes things. It's very interesting.

[Closing the book, Luke surveys Adachi thoughtfully.] Are you new at the library? I don't think we've met before.

You're brave to read such things at your age. Many would rather skip it even at older ages.

[The smile still there he also gets out the receit that says the return date for the books.]

Yeah, I started working here rather recently. I'm Adachi. I hope we'll see you a lot here.

[Belle had been making sure the library was running well by herself, so when another had taken up the job she had been very much gratful. So with the final books on the shelves she had gone over to see how they were doing.]

Did anyone else bring in any books?

[One of the perks at working at the library: A nice looking colleague.]

No. It's been awfully quiet for a few hours.

[She figured, which mean she did her job well enough and she didn't have much else to do.]

Very well. If that is the case, I guess I'll do something else.

[She was sure there were some new books she needed to sort out.]

If it is so quiet you might not need to be here, so you could go home early.

While that sounds tempting, I really don't have much to do outside work... so I might as well stay in case we do get busy.

Have you ever seen the library get busy?

[She picked up a few books as she sat down, she needed to scan them into the system before doing anything else.]

It does get pretty crazy.

Ever since I started working here I haven't seen a busy day... but you never know. Maybe everyone suddenly gets a message through their heads that tells them to loan a book.

[She laughed slightly, putting the scanned books to the side for the time being.]

I mean we do see the same people at least, so that's always a good thing.

[There are times Kahlan comes to the library to find a particular book about a particular topic. In this case it's something like a 'how to..' book cradled in her arms as she turns the corner. She recognizes the boy who bid on her at the auction though she's never met him formally.

She flashes him a smile, stepping up to at least introduce herself properly.]

Hello. It's nice to see you again.

[Oh, it's the girl she tried to bid on but Yukiko and the other guy spoiled his fun. Well, he didn't expect to meet her again so soon.]

Hey, same to you. It's been a while since the auction, huh?

[Kahlan's eyebrow rose.]

Not that long.

[She indicates the books in her arms while keeping her professional position and grace.]

I've been coming here to look for reference materials but I admit I don't like the sounds of the city.

[She's used to quieter places.]

I'm sure you're here for a book but anything in particular?

Really? I guess my sense of time isn't the best. Too much work, too little time.

[It really felt like it had been a long time since Valentine's, but then again, he had done some crazy stuff and his sense of time went off every time he went to that particular place.]

Oh, no, I'm working here. I was just putting books back on their shelves. [Though to add to that:] I do have books I want to read waiting back at my place.

[Kahlan's smile widens as if expecting to hear that he works here.]

Do you think you could help me then? I'm hoping to find more books on herbs. Specifically ones from Fayren or other worlds besides Genessia and my home.

[Something else to do for a change? That would work nicely indeed.]

Of course. We actually go some new books on the subject last week, so you're lucky.

[Kahlan's smile widens.]

I'm happy to hear that. Have you been working here long?

Just a few weeks. It took me a while to get a good feel for this place before I finally decided what I want to do.

That's wise of you.

[She comments softly, looking through the rows of books.

Her skills aren't exactly conducive to this world and she can't give up her task with Richard here. Her first job is to protect him.]

[Nathan only worked part-time at the library, as the resident barista actually, and it was only a recent thing. As such, he wasn't expressly familiar with all the librarians, either, and when he would get off shift, he would make it a point to head to the screenplays section, to see if anything new had arrived, either from his world or somewhere else. That was still all kinds of cool.

Today, though, he had somewhere else he needed to be after work, so he decided he'd just check with the new librarian.]

Hey, anything new come in recently?

[Nathan has a nice timing. Adachi had just stopped checking in the new books that had arrived today and hadn't yet started putting them into shelves.]

Quite a number. If you want, you can take a look before I go sort them into shelves. Most of them are romance novels though.

...there are a lot of lonely women in the universe. [He shakes his head, laughing.] Really, how many of these could possibly be written?

Seriously, there aren't enough ideas. I'm pretty sure at least quarter of these tell the exact same story with different characters or places.

[At that, Nathan looks a little more confused.]

Wait, you've read them?

Oh no. That's just a guess I'm making.

[Nathan laughs at that.]

Riight. Just admit it, man.

[ Castlevania's library might be well versed in magic, but Konoka enjoyed her fiction, and made sure to travel out during the day and check out Genessia's main library. That, and she didn't have to avoid killer books, headless skeletons or that fat, green-coated weirdo who threw bombs at her. She was no stranger to dangerous libraries, but it was a wonderful experience to enjoy a regular one again!

With a few mystery/romance books in hand, Konoka stopped by the checkout counter. ]

I'd like to take these, please!

[Oh, she looked cute. Wait, she was one of the ones in the auction, wasn't she? Yeah Adachi opted out on bidding on her since she seemed so young and it would have looked weird.]

Can I have your card? You were lucky though, these books seem rather popular.

Oh, sure!

[ All the better since Konoka already had her own plans, especially with Pidonus hovering over her. As a matter of fact her card just came in today! She hands it over. ]

Man, I guess I wasn't a moment too soon with them then!

When did you start working here? I'm still pretty new to the area, so I've been seeing who came from where!

Oh, it's been a week or two since. I needed some time to decide what I wanted to do when I arrived.

[After checking the books and her card, he returns them both to her, with a receit.]

[ She takes all of it with a polite and slight bow. ]

I've traveled over Genessia and Everglade, but there's still more to see!

Heeh. I've only been here and Attleton myself. I should consider visiting other places.

You should! Genessia is pretty neat! I need to see more of Attleton myself.
