[It's an hour after sundown but Bridget has covered quite a bit of ground so far. It's rather easy to do when one can travel at speeds up to 150 miles per hour and can fly, though the city really didn't require that much effort. All she really did was find a convenience store and look at the maps. A completely square city with only four gates leading to other places that shouldn't exist connected to such a seemingly normal completely square city.

Fine, Bridget could handle that. It was right up there with someone actually managing to kidnap her and deposit her in a place with no traces of her telepathic networks or her squad. So after some poking about and finding a place that could actually make good tea, it was time to start the real information gathering. Who else had been brought here in that cocoon thing and when? There had to be some sort of purpose.

She propped the device at the right angle and turned it on. She was pale with cat-slit eyes and hair braided in loops around her head. At least she'd been wearing her high-necked black tunic rather than one of her flashy evening gowns.]

Greetings. I'm Bridget, and I must say this place certainly is unique. Especially the mode of greeting new arrivals with a box of jewelry, electronics, and money and then leaving them in a vulnerable state exposed the the elements. I doubt the main populace has enjoyed such an experience, but I'm hoping to test that theory.

[Bridget pauses to take a sip and then set the cup back off to the side.]

Has anyone who does have one of these ever heard of or met someone with a necklace and vidphone who was born here?

If they're hoping giving us cheap gifts is going to make us want to stay, they're really fooling themselves.

I haven't. But I've just arrived.

I'm not so sure. It would be so easy to compare this to giving a child a compass and a bottle of water and leave them to find their own way out of the woods.

[A thoughtful pause.]

A way to find temporary room and board, a means to communicate, and the license to travel in this case.

Why would you give a child that? Children don't need anything but their parents. ...Until they're old enough, I suppose.

[Sorry, Bridget. The little doll doesn't get that reference.]

I don't need a room. And I'd only want to know how to get out of here, for now.

[The means to communicate is, at least, distracting.]

I was an odd child, I just keep forgetting that. But there were times when many children lost their parents to one thing or another and had to fend for themselves.

You don't have parents or a family?

I was born of course, and I certainly adored the man who raised me. I even liked my half-sister quite a bit. I was just too talented to fade into obscurity but not in the right place to be accepted.

[A slight pause.]

That probably sounded odd. I was the child of the king's mistress and too talented and confident for my own good, while my younger half-sister was timid and showed no talent for anything. I was adopted by perhaps the one man who could actually manage me and I adored him.

I see... Believe me I know everything about having sisters that do not have any talent for anything.

If you want some good advice, you should quickly find a way to get rid of your half-sister. Only one of you can become the princess, and it should be the more talented of the two. That's how it works.

[That's how it works as far as Suigintou is concerned, at least. That's how she's planning to become 'Alice', the perfect daughter.]

I had far more freedom than she ever did though. I could learn anything I wanted to no matter how inappropriate it was while she had to sit around looking pretty and smiling to the right degree at certain people. Besides, she had more power than I will ever dream of having, it was just confidence and initiative she lacked.

More power? What kind of power?

I just got here myself, so I haven't really seen anyone born and raised here. It's quite suspicious I agree.
