So you guys battling is like the most literal form of a food-fight, right?

It's not the kind you throw around, that's a waste of food. We're fighting with our culinary skills. Ryo and I do it often enough that we don't really do a formal shokugeki though.

Then we also get dinner afterward.

I was thinking more like dueling using baguettes as your swords but, yeah, that would still be a waste of food. What's a show-...coo-getti?

Who makes the dinner?

A shokugeki is a formal challenge between two chefs that typically has something of value wagered on it to see who cooks the better food according to the agreed upon theme.

So we make the dinner, obviously.

Who usually judges these? I'm not asking because I think I have some sort of addiction to your food wizardry and am trying to figure out how to become a professional taster of all things.

It depends on the challenge. Typically we have experts in the culinary field, celebrities, Mom, teachers... It can be anyone really, but since we're trying to be the best we need people who will push us to our limits.

We battle every day almost, but we battle for who gets to be head chef once a week.I want to do it early though since it's my birthday.

So it's like iron chef?

Ah, no. It's a TV show where people battle and the winner receives the title Iron Chef. [Or she thinks that is the premise, she mostly just remembers a lot of yummy food.]

Contestants have an hour to do this. My favorite part is watching the judges. [Everyone always wants to be a judge.]

They have one ingredient that's a special one and everything they make has to use it. I think they usually have to make different courses too. [She isn't the best at explaining things.]
