03RD Bark | Baptism by Fire [Closed]
Who: Toby Allaway
What: Bounty: Baptism by Fire
Where: Everglade
[Everglade doesn't ever stop being creepy. It doesn't bother Toby, in fact he's used to it. What he isn't used to is the insistent scent of burnt timber that drifts through the air. Instinctively he follows the smell stopping at the edge of a smoldering house. He has to pause because the next scent that hits him is more than just alarming, it's familiar.
Burnt flesh.
He swallows, inspecting the house from the outside before slipping in through the front door. It isn't locked and even if it had been it wouldn't have put up much of a fight. Towering at six feet and five inches, he isn't hard to spot stepping into the burning house.]

I am and for how I can help, I'm use to having to investigate, I've done a few bounties myself and if we find the killer and they attack with fire I will be able to handle it.
[Thanks to her persona is kind of nulls or at least makes it less hurtful to her, so she figured she would take the attack should something come around. But with that done and sorted she paused for a moment.]
How recently?
no subject
[He scoffs at his own joke, realizing it was a pretty bad one, and glances over to Toby. So far, he didn't see a lot of footprints disturbing the ash, but he did notice, just by looking at it, that this place went up quick.]
Okay, I'm with the kid. How recently? Was the place still burning? Did he stay afterward? Can you pick up which way he...or she headed?
[This might actually be a woman. Women were really good at vengeance violence, and tended toward less direct means of murder: fire, poison.]

Toby leans against a wall, one he knows can support the extra weight and stares at the pair of them. He's silent for a long moment before finally deciding to speak. When he does it sounds more like a formal report, some habits doesn't die.]
Smoldering, no and Male. [He turns from answering Ronan's questions to Yukiko.] He was here within the last half hour.
[Which is why Toby really doesn't look like he's in a rush. He can smell the magic, it's something he's had to do a hundred times before now.]
Magic was used, I can pick up the trail.
no subject
So if it was within an hour, that means he couldn't have gone too far. [She paused briefly, pick up the trail of magic?]
So it means you can track it somehow?
no subject
[He looks around.]
I'll take a look around, see if I can't get an idea who these people were. If it's personal, we might find a link. [And he looks to Toby.] Meaning if you lose him, we might still be able to find him.
no subject
Magic has a scent, it's only a trace and it's hard to pick up but it's there if you know what to look for. [He's trained himself over the last twenty years to be able to pick up the scent.]
I can follow it or we can stay here and investigate.
[He shrugs.]
Your call.
[If the trail becomes to faint he'd have to shift to pick it back up, which isn't something he's keen on doing with company.]

[She knows full well how the power of scent can be like. That's how Teddie found the place she was at all that time ago. She she wanted to believe it could work here.]
But yet I can understand wanting to investigate a bit longer. But if we catch him first we can investigate later, right?
no subject
Let's get this guy. We can come back and figure out the why about this house later.
imma make stuff up!!!
Those with shorter legs might need to jog to keep up with Toby as he moves through the city. He knows this city pretty well and after a few minutes of walking he has a rough guess as to where this guy is hiding.]
In there.
[He nods his head towards a particularly shady bar.]
Given the trace he entered 5 minutes ago. He's either still in there or there is a back door.
no subject
When the other had stopped, she managed to stop herself. Her eyes soon looking over the bar. She soon went to the entrance.]
I'll go in and check it out.
no subject
Hey, hey, hey. Wait a minute. Look at yourself, willya? You don't go here, kid. You want to broadcast to the whole bar we're looking for someone?
no subject
He's right. There is probably a backdoor. You stand there, Ronan or I will go inside while the other stands at the front door.
[It's a plan and with the three of them they'll be able to corner the fire starter.]
no subject
[Sometimes she does think up ideas because one standing out was one thing, but two would make it even more obvious.]
If you don't want me to go in, I won't. But then choosing to both go in is the exact same idea you just told me not to do.

He nods at Ronan and then moves around to the back of the building. It isn't hard for him to tell where there is foot traffic and after scaring off a few people he takes his position at the back of the bar. This is the more logical place to exit but then they have no idea how smart their target is.
Now he just has to wait for Ronan to go inside. He has his back to the wall and his ears perked hoping to hear whatever might be going on in the building.]
no subject
However she moves away, moving to take a closer looking around the building, just checking before finally taking a spot away from the door to not look too out of place, but yet at the same time still able to see the door. She was still worried though that there might be a secret door possibly, but she couldn't do much about that right now.
People were still coming in and out of the place as well as Yukiko was keeping tabs on who before leaning back slightly, checking to see the others reaction. Didn't seem like any of them were the person it seemed.]

It was the perfect place for a fugitive to hide. If he didn't know who he was looking for, no one would have seen anyone suspicious. Grey eyes scan the crowd, looking for anyone with their heads down, looking to remain inconspicuous, when a form, a little smaller than him, raising quickly from a back table and darts toward the kitchen.
Ronan reaches for his service pistol.]
Hey! Freeze!
[That only seems to give the runner fuel as he darts through the back room, heading toward the rear exit, Ronan close on his heels.]
no subject
A scream is quieted by Toby's grip but it is still loud enough that Yukiko will be able to hear the commotion.
The man looks breakable next to the towering werewolf, his eyes frantic as Ronan catches up. He doesn't want to be caught and he begins to call on the magic that he's familiar with. Fire. Heat begins to sear Toby's arm but for the moment, he doesn't let go.]
no subject
At least in her head anyway. However there was one thing she was good at, using her fan to hit people with. So holding it firmly she aimed it with such precision that she hit the guy while he was trying to use his magic, getting him to stop while her fan came back to her hand. She just hope that would have stunned him long enough to take him where they needed to take him.]
no subject
He nods to Toby, then reaches into the pocket of his vest, pulling out a pair of handcuffs. They might not have had a chance of holding Toby if need be, but for a perfectly mundane human mage, they would work just fine, provided he stayed unconscious long enough.
As he slips the shining metal around the guy's wrists while Toby holds him, Ronan lets his eyes move to Yukiko.]
Good job, kid. [And he smirks as he locks the cuffs in place.] You know what I miss? [He was speaking generally now, rather to anyone specific.] Reading a perp his rights.
no subject
Nothing is stopping you.
[It isn't as if the unconscious body is going anywhere any time fast.]
Let's go.
[Toby isn't interested in this guy waking up and setting on him. It won't kill him but it would hurt.]
no subject
Oh, should we gather some evidence from the actual crime scene so that well we have it. Just him being shifty and having the same powers doesn't mean it was them for sure after all.
[Considering the time they had chases someone it turned out that they were just doing something else shifty.]
no subject
[While it wasn't technically part of the job, he was still used to being a cop.] What we need to do is find something that links this shmuck to the crime scene. We already know he's got the means.
no subject
I'll keep an eye on him.
[He gestures to the man draped across his shoulder. Toby will be able to tell if he wakes and it won't be to much trouble to knock him about again.]
