[ seto has been fairly quiet recently, which isn't unusual. he's not exactly the most social teenager in the world, and he's been busy restructuring his empire. collecting funds, figuring out what to do in terms of technological advancement. finding out how to get home.

annoyingly, he's still there. and annoyingly, he hasn't figured out a way to get home. and it's in wandering around the city to clear his head (and ignore that mokuba is still not here, not that seto wants him to be here, but it's also that driving itch in his skin that he isn't here, and if he's not here, where in the hell is he) that he's found the archway to domino city -- which he discovered about a week or two ago. he had explored domino by himself, first, not wanting other people (specifically, yuugi, atem, or kisara) to see how furious he was to discover that it's not really home. just a ghost town.

a ghost town with all of his things. including everything located in his laboratory at kaiba corporation, which could be brought here, in order to truly have something to work with.

how it got here, seto has no idea. it was probably yuugi's fault, which is frustrating, because it's another thing seto owes to yuugi, and another debt that he can't repay anytime soon. aggravating. but the time has come for him to properly begin moving things, and so -- at first, there's a brief flicker of a list, typed up, meticulously organized and color-coded by order of importance, though the color code makes no sense to anyone but seto: ]

The "filtering system" on this network is absolute garbage. Disregard.

What is a reputable source of manual labor in this place that would be willing to assist (with payment) in the removal of a large amount of machinery from one location to another? Anything that breaks will be your responsibility, and with full disclosure, I have no patience for error.

Do people ever show up in them, instead of near the Bay, or elsewhere in the network of cities?

[ Well, a misfire is surprising, but it's yet another day that she's being forced to take off... May as well do something productive with it. ]

I have not heard of those appearing in the subarchways instead of at the bay, but it seems to be possible for animals at the least - though I cannot say the same for people.

If you like, I could try my hand at moving some of the machinery in question.

I'm not concerned with animals.

Does your ability interfere with the inner workings of machinery?

I cannot say for sure, not having worked with more delicate technology before with my power. A test would be prudent, if you are worried about it.

You can test it on another piece of similar technology; I don't want to ruin what's mine.

[ especially if it's in relatively short supply ]

I assume it would be things from Nova City that would show the most similarity then?

I can let you know of how testing goes - it should not be too difficult to move everything if it goes well, depending on how much there is.

Nova City is a close approximation to what I have in Domino City. Enough to test whether or not your abilities would ruin what I have, at any rate.

My magic seems to have no ill effect on the computers of those who have allowed me to try. I have been told it all functions normally after I have moved it.

The filtering system works just fine if you use it correctly.

They do show up sometimes, but they aren't real when they do that. You'll find they have no pendant and aren't typically aware that we're not even home. You can get them to move away from the subarchway if they're with you but they typically find their way back eventually if left on their own.

Just like they know you- or at least you from back home. There's a reason I only go into my own subarchways when I need supplies.

[ great. seto had been relatively lucky, when he poked around earlier, and had avoided such difficulties. but there's no telling when it could happen, which makes him even less willing to allow people to come with him into the world.

And there's nothing to be done about them?

You could always accept that you're in another world, get what you need out of there, and elect not to hide behind the comforts of something fake instead of accepting reality. Personally, I think a number of people here need to do that.

I invented virtual reality. I know the dangers of allowing a perfect world to seem too real. I'm not confused on the difference.

But having a mockery of what is real isn't acceptable, either.

Whoever opened the archway is capable of closing it. Otherwise, there's not much you can do besides avoid it.

You found the Domino subarchway, then?

I don't actually know why. I guess your reaction more than anything.

[He wasn't planning on keeping it open forever at least, only until there was a way to set up the game here.]

You should try putting pen to paper. Technology might fail if it's something you aren't used too.

I invented virtual reality. I am no stranger to technology, and I prefer typing to writing.

An inventor? You must be skilled. What do you use your virtual reality for?

Games, for the most part.

I'm a little surprised. It's a good surprise though. I assumed that such things would first be developed for war or in race to prove to others that it can be done.

I have no taste for war.

[ that is gozaburo's preferred flavor of money making expertise, and seto wants nothing to do with it ]

I will admit that I get enjoyment out of testing the boundaries of what is possible, to push myself to become better. There's no point in pursuing something great unless you push yourself to your limit. But the end result, and product, I use for gaming and constructing virtual systems for that pursuit.

That's a very impressive aim.

That's odd. The filtering system is working fine for me. You could always keep a private journal on paper. But the catch is you'd have to hide in a place that no one else would think to look.

You can't encrypt paper, and hiding it isn't an option.

[ he just ignores the slight, because the reason why it hadn't "worked" is because seto simply hadn't been paying attention, and he's not about to admit that ]

I see. I guess it's especially risky since some people here know magic. It probably wouldn't be much to them to get into a safe.

[He'd be disappointed in you if he knew you thought he was trying to slight you, Kaiba-kun. He was doing nothing of the sort.]

I haven't seen a form of "magic" yet that is any more threatening than what I've already experienced.

[ nothing compares to the dark games, in his opinion. metalbenders and weirdos in fayren don't really scare him. ]

Regardless, I would rather use technology. I'll just program my own safeguards.

I know what you mean. [He smiles, but it's a bit guarded.] Still, we only know so much about this place. So who knows what we'll find.

[Strange? Has Kaiba-kun been outside? Though he is too polite to say it, Ryou's expression hints at his disbelief at the question. Strange how? The doll staffed Fayren police force,Everglade, which even he with his monster fascination he hasn't been brave enough to venture into, these Hands of Decay fanatics...ect...?]

Are you looking out for something in particular? It's a loaded question in this place. [He chuckles.]

[ he is sorely tempted to just ignore the video chat response, but -- the video seems to show seto sitting in a chair, in his apartment, looking a little tired, but focused. with a frown. almost annoyed at atem asking the question. ]

[ yes. always. of course he is. what a stupid question. but -- ]

Having more information isn't a bad thing.

[ Well. Annoyed is Seto's default reaction to anything not Mokuba. How is he supposed to know if this is any different? ]

No, it never is. Have you learned of anything of importance?

[ That will help them burn this place to the ground. ]

[ ah. the magic question. ]

There is no way out of this place. No roads leave that make any amount of sense, and moving from city to city is meaningless. The City Guardians seem to be in harmony and not at war with one another, or at least they are on the surface. Fayren is dangerous if you openly practice magic, whatever that means, due to some sort of terrorist organization that has taken root there.

[ or something. seto doesn't really care, because he's not a weirdo that uses magic. if someone is that stupid to go around levitating crap in their presence, that's their problem, and not his. ]

I have also discovered a subarchway to our world, which allows us to get supplies from our universe. But there are no people there.

[ real people, anyway ]

[ Yes, well, unlike you, Seto, Atem does practice what could be seen as magic. Or he did, at any rate. It wasn't something he had tried to do here, he had no reason to play a yami no game. Not yet, at any rate. At the moment, his friends and family were okay and accounted for and he had no reason to punish anyone.

He's also ignoring the fact that he mostly stopped doing that sort of thing around the time of Duelist Kingdom. Because while he's learned his lesson in the whole 'trusting others' and 'being too prideful' thing, he's not above protecting those he cares about by any means necessary.

He nods, taking Seto's words under advisement. While he trusts everything Yugi tells him, he knows that Seto is not going to sugarcoat anything, if he was thinking about it, it would probably strike him strange when he considers how much he trusts Seto with this sort of thing. It's almost like reliving the past. ]

So then we'll have to come up with another way.

[ Except that he knows that leaving will just lead him to his final resting place, and allow Yugi and the others to move on their lives. He knows it's his destiny and yet... he finds himself liking this - being alive again (or the illusion of being alive), making his own friends, not just the ones he has thanks to Yugi, being able to live without the threat of Darkness looming over their heads...

Not that it matters, because when all is said and done, he knows what he will do. ]

At least you can retrieve your items from Kaiba Corp then.

[ That'll at least give them something to work with He might not understand all of Seto's tech, but he does recognize that Seto is a master with it. The Duel Disks and Solid Vision were proof of that.

He doesn't comment on the people, because he knows how hard it probably was to find that and discover no Mokuba. He would have felt the same way if he had found that and Yugi hadn't already been here with him. Not for the first time, he wonders how Yugi managed to keep himself positive here, without Anzu, Jounouchi, Honda or any of the others. ]

[ which is important. testing the boundaries of reality is something seto has done, but he's always had the assistance of magic. of atem's powers, or forcing yami no bakura's hand. this time, seto only has what's available to him -- for the most part. but this is a significant step up from where he was before the archway. he supposes he has to thank yuugi for it. eventually. ]

The only difficulty is finding a place to store them here. Most of the machinery I want will require a large storage facility with cooling units. Which I don't have, and I require funding and investment to do that.

[ the rat race. again. ]

But it's a start. Something to capitalize on. I could always work from within the archway as well, but I would rather not.

[ it's empty. no mokuba, no isono. no kaiba corporation employees. wandering around within it made him uncomfortable and he had only done it for an hour. ]

[ Seto still has the assistance of magic, of Atem's powers, if he so wishes it. ]

Hm. If you require funding, I could perhaps speak to Yugi about it, I'm sure we could come up with some ideas.

[ Atem would be the first to admit that he's not particularly business savvy, but he knows Seto is and Yugi has his game shop here, so... ]

[ it's not that she didn't notice - she and seto had been living together for some time now. spending time and working and eating together often. she's come to expect, to enjoy his company, though he might not be the most talkative or the most outwardly welcoming. kisara has found their nights...nice. comfortable.

so when she finds him gone, one day, it doesn't go unnoticed. nor does it escape her when he comes back and very pointedly doesn't mention what it was he was doing that day, or where he had been. she doesn't ask, but it's not really her place to question where it is he goes during the day if he doesn't feel like telling her himself, but she can't help but notice the way he's packing up again - like he's heading out to go somewhere. somewhere far.

kisara can't really help herself when she notices him moving around the living room, sticking her head out from the kitchen. ]

Seto? Are you going somewhere today? [ and then, a few moments later when she finishes what she's doing and steps around the doorway into the living room, she smiles softly. ] I don't have any errands today, I could help?

[ there's a pause at his name and he looks up, almost expecting her to ask a clarifying question -- which she had, incessantly, since arriving here. how does this work. what about the microwave. what is a microwave. and he hadn't really minded, explaining such things, but he can't afford to do so right now, and he's about to tell her such when she continues.

-- augh. ]

... there's a subarchway that I discovered, that opens into our world. It's empty of people, for the most part, but you can bring objects back from one world into this one.

[ he pauses before looking up at her ]

It accesses my time period, so I can go to my company, and my home, and get whatever I need to create the technology I need to succeed here, without having to build everything from scratch. Most of it needs machinery to move, but I can carry certain things here.

[ none of which answers kisara's question (can I help?), and he seems to be warring with himself on whether or not he wants to take her. but surely she'll figure out where it is on her own, and go on her own, and she would probably be safe with him to navigate domino city... ]

You can come with me, if you want. I won't stop you.

[ she sees that look when he lifts his head to find her - that i can't right now or i'm busy. despite the fact it's only been a few weeks, kisara is starting to feel a bit more confident about being able to read what she knows seto won't say.

which is why she knows when he's about to tell her no, and knows that by shifting her question, he's not going to be able to just. leave without saying anything.

it's only when he starts to explain the archways that her eyes widen a bit, most of what he's saying going over her head, but things like my home and carry certain things. she brightens, marginally. ]

I can help you carry some of your things! [ a smile, and then she's going to rush back into her room and pull out a bag she'd been using whenever she went grocery shopping. and as she comes back out to the living area, she looks pleased with herself for thinking of it. ]

Only if it won't be too much trouble. I don't want to complicate things.

[ but the complete sentence doesn't actually make it out of his mouth in time for it to matter, and seto lets kisara rush back without continuing, still frowning slightly. he can't accept help at the best of times, but accepting it from kisara just seems... wrong. especially considering who she is. what she is.

still, even seto knows when and where to pick his battles, and so he shrugs a shoulder and inclines his head toward the door. she can go first. ]

You won't complicate anything. [ moreso than seto has already complicated it for himself ] I want to explore the area more, and figure out what, exactly, I can take. That's all.
