[There was a cake in Conan's room.

It had arrived by surprise, with no explanation on why it was there, and no evidence on how it had arrived there,

Conan was not very fond of surprises.]

Somebody broke into my room and left a cake there. Does anyone know why?

[Dairine hears his question from the other room. Well, she certainly has an inkling, considering the date. She had actually planned on getting a special treat for him to celebrate it, but it seems like someone beat her to it.

The young wizard pokes her head in.]

I can take a guess.

[Kid had been his first guess, which was even more of a reason not to eat it. ]

That's an interesting thief you had there.

[He's never heard of a thief who did that.]

[Hikari did look confused when she appeared on the feed. What an odd thing to have someone leave.]

Why would someone do that?

Why would you complain about a free cake? Unless it's poison. I suppose that would make for a fairly valid reason to complain.

[ Jefferson had no idea who this kid was but the cake thing was too interesting to let go without comment. ]

[Oh look, here's a familiar voice, and it's amused.]

I suppose that means the rumors are true then.

That you normally forget your birthday.

I'd call it less interesting and more annoying.

[Kid had better have a decent explanation. Conan really doubted that there could be another thief here with that level of skill and an interest in irritating him.]

If I had the equipment to check for poison, I would check it. There's probably something wrong with it.

I was planning on testing it for poison.

[ His voice right now? So entirely deadpan. ]

Tantei-kun, I went through all that trouble trying to save you, why would I poison you?

I hope you find it, because that would just be scary if someone did that with anyone.

At least nothing was taken, so that is always a plus.

I don't know that for sure. I still need to check everything in my room.

You didn't leave a calling card on the cake, did you? When something like food is left out there is always a chance that it could be compromised.

That sounds like a terrible idea.

Its not scary. Its just annoying.

Seriously? Seems like a waste of perfectly good cake.

[Unless Kid has done something weird to it, but she feels like he wouldn't do that. He liked Conan too much. Plus, he'd be the prime suspect and could probably guess what would happen if he drugged the detective on Dair's watch.]

Goodness. Someone needs a sense of humor.
