Second Flight ♥ | [Video]
[It was late night of May 16th, and what was Jessica up to? Why, it was the annual watching of one of her favorite movies! It was the film's anniversary, after all! Sure, Tom Cruise certainly wasn't one of her favorite actors (and the karaoke scene with him on piano singing with his wingman was cringe worthy for someone in the music industry), but like she always said to her friends. There was only one reason to watch the film, and that was because F-14 Tomcats. The movie was around 50 years old in her time, but it was still good, even for how cheesy it was at points.
By the time she switched on the feed, the credits were rolling and Jessica was singing along with the ending theme, which could be softly heard in the background. Being an idol singer, she was pretty damn good at it too, so it at least wasn't horrible on the ears like Maverick and Goose's singing in the movie. Yeah, and she totally sang along with the opening theme too. It was a crime not to.]
I'd say I'd be horribly disappointed in everyone if they didn't watch this movie today, but there's also that "other world" thing so I don't even know if it exists for some people. Or maybe it actually happened somewhere! [Actually no, that was a bad thing. She liked Goose.] Either way, does anyone seriously watch that movie for the actors? The F-14s steal the show. I sure wouldn't watch it for that volleyball scene. Needs more F-14s. Always.
[She was so absorbed in her ramblings about Top Gun that she didn't immediately notice that the clock had ticked over to midnight. Which meant it was the seventeenth now. When she finally noticed, her expression seemed to drop. She bit her lower lip, looking back at the feed and smiling nervously, but now she seemed pretty dejected. Someone clearly wanted to just be carefree in talking about F-14s again.]
Uhm. Would anyone be interested in going to a karaoke club or something later in the day? It's kinda selfish, but I'd kinda rather not be alone today. Well. What's now today. Meaning the seventeenth.
[She didn't want to publicly say it was her birthday. She sounded like she was pandering for attention as it was, she didn't want to add "it's my birthday" to try to guilt trip people or something. She wanted to maybe invite Weiss, but she wrote off that idea because she figured that girl was busy.]
Oh, and uh. What are some good job options here? I only really know how to sing. [And fight evil doers but she won't say that one out loud.]

I'm no fighter jock but it was a great jet for its time. Pity the Marines never took it up.

It breaks my heart to know so few are left. I mean, I get that they were getting too costly to maintain, but retiring them is so depressing.
[Sure, her heart was with the F-22, but really, there weren't any jets she didn't like.]

[She's a little intrigued by that idea. The retirement of the F-14s was a long time ago for her, so someone even from the era that they were in active service was even further back.]
And that's where it's super weird to me that they're still using B-52s. B-52s! Those things are relics!

[He smiles a bit at that.]
Sure did. Different world back then. Everything was more... certain, I guess.
[And not necessarily because he was younger than she is now.]

[The Air Force was dumb to ditch those things for the F-35. She loves the Lightning II, but geez, that was a dumb move.]
Certain? How do you mean?
no subject
Amen. I hope they keep riding the A-10 for all the time they've got left.
[He looks thoughtful at her question. The answer is something he felt deep down but can't really put into words. Now's a good time to try.]
Our place in the world, I suppose. As a nation, and a force for what's generally accepted as good. We sure learned a lot of things from that kind of thinking.
[The hard way.]

...What's on the seventeenth?

Oh, uhm... it's my eighteenth birthday. I just arrived here a couple of weeks ago, so I don't really know anyone to spend it with, so I figured make an open invite and maybe meet some new people.

I=I'm sure you'll find someone...
no subject
Y-Yeah, maybe. If not I could find something to kill time with.
[Or so she hopes.]

Like what?

Wow. It's been a while since I even saw that movie. Can't even remember much of it.
[Of course, she remembers the jet fighters, and watching it with her dad. It made Mariko feel a little sadder when Jessica invited people to hang out simply because she preferred not to be alone. That really resonated with Mariko, who is pretty much on the same boat. Mariko sits up on the couch]
I have some time to kill. I can go with you. I know a place.
no subject
It's a rule to watch it every May 16th! My friends at home and me made it a tradition to see it again on its anniversary.
[Her eyes lit up. She certainly wasn't going to pass up a chance to hang out with Mariko.]
You do? Where's that at?
no subject
[Mariko gets up from the couch, walking towards Dante's desk to grab her guitar case and other belongings while placing the device aside]
Someone told me about a "subarchway" just now. I was about to go check it out myself before you made a video. It's crazy, but someone said it's a gate that leads to Tokyo.
[She looks to the screen while she picks the device back up again.]
The gate is in the Attleton place. Meet you there?
no subject
[She really hadn't been paying much attention to the whole 'subarchway' concept. She'd been more focused on trying to figure out how she was going to pay for everything... and watching Top Gun.]
Sure, I'd love to go! It'd sure beat wandering aimlessly around Genessia City again.
[Action]
[Mariko slings her duffel bag on her right shoulder, and carried her guitar case on her left hand. She shuts the video communication off, and wouldn't hear from Jessica until 25 minutes later... She had to deal with demons on the way out of Slum Street.
Regardless, she came to their meeting place passed the Attleton gate. Mariko's eyes were glued to her device with a map of Attleton on the screen, and headphones on her ears, blasting some music. The gate lead to the city's main street where Jessica would probably be waiting. Mariko takes her headphones off when she sees the other girl, jogging towards Jessica with hands in her pockets.]
Sorry. Hope I didn't make you wait too long.
Video;
I'd love to go to Karaoke! [Who doesn't love to sing? Besides, it's better than her singing and dancing through the apartment when no one is home.]
I'm also sure we can think of a job you might enjoy. What about working at the Karaoke place? Then you can see if you can put on performances and sing also.
[Singers don't always make a lot of money.]
Video;
Always glad to have new singers to perform with! [Though usually 'perform' in karaoke terms sometimes translate into 'making an ass out of yourself', but hey, that's just how it is sometimes, even for her!]
Ehh... it sounds like a decent idea, but I'm not sure I'd want to work in one of those places. Don't think I could tolerate drunks pretending they can sing everyday.
Video;
[She laughs as she waves a hand as if to emulate shutting a door.] Then you don't have to hear them though it'll give you some interesting stories to tell.
[Airy's smile widens.]
It would be fun! I promise I'm not an awful singer. I mean... I'm not great but it's better than crows.
video;
[And she was pretty sure that they can't sing since they don't have the ability.]
video;
[Granted, she has no idea what 'pokemon' are, but she isn't gonna go and turn down any opportunities for others to sing!]

[Video]
There is one thing he's curious about, though, as he turns on his own video.]
What's special about the 17th?
[Video]
It's- my birthday. [As much as she didn't want to admit it.] And it's the first time I haven't had anyone familiar to spend it with. So I guess it's kind of... awkward.
[Video]
[He's able to put on a genuine smile this time. Birthdays are something worth celebrating.]
I see. I can understand that. If you'd like, maybe I could show you something today. After we sleep, of course.
