What: Bounty: Arched
Where: Everglade
[Toby will not claim that this is a good plan, or even a smart plan but it is his plan and he’s sticking with it. His fists are shoved into the pockets of his leather jacket, his usual calm mask pulled over his features. He has the easy part of the plan.
Clay is his scout; the location was picked by him with only a handful of places for the archer to shot. He’s also Toby’s back up in case the poison really does prove to be too much. Joruk is the look out, remaining out of sight with his own weapon ready and his eyes on the lookout for the shooter. Fai is their backup, in case the shooter decides to attack from a magical or unusual angle.
It isn’t a horrible plan. Toby doesn’t know what kind of poison the archer is using or if it will kill him; it’s just a gamble. He hasn’t told their little rag-tag team this but while he’s resistant to poisons he isn’t completely immune to them.
His eyes cast up towards the sky watching the movement of the sun as the seconds tick by. As long as everyone remains out of sight this will work though it’s hard to say]
[ooc: I hand-waved everyone talking about the plan and meeting Joruk. I assume it happens in some bar or something where Toby is talking to Clay about it and Fai gets involved because it’s Everglade and Joruk overhears and they all know more or less the idiocy of Toby’s plan but are going along with it anyway. Feel free to tag him after the fact too, to tell him how much of an idiot he is. If this isn’t okay please let me know!!! I improvised some >.< Also Toby will get shot in the next tag; I wanted to give everyone time to set up their thoughts/what they are doing. I don’t see this being a long thread.]
OPEN TO ALL | Everglade or Genessia | Action
[Hindsight is an amazing thing.
In hindsight, his idea had been a stupid one. Yes, it worked but it came at a cost. The poison running through his system is meant to kill most victims, Toby is lucky because he isn’t most victims. His body is slowly repelling the poison but it’s coming at a cost. He’s beginning to feel feverish though he’s stubbornly pushing past the achy feeling in his joints.
He just needs to find a place to sleep: rest, reboot and he’ll be fine.
Anyone who comes across him will hear a steady stream of curse words whispered under his breath. He isn’t looking to go home and get yelled at so he might find a place to sleep in an alleyway or wherever looks comfortable.]
[ooc: feel free to find him wherever between Genessia and Everglade.]
Closed to Cas: Backdated slightly.
[He is an idiot. This is a fact that he’s very aware of though he’s never made strides to fix it. School has never been his strong suit and even now he got dreary at the idea of reading a book. His idiocy doesn’t excuse his behavior the night before.
Toby doesn’t know how to say sorry. He isn’t the sort of person who talks a lot and when he does speak he feels as if his words don’t carry the weight that others do. He foregoes the awkward stumbling over words and decides to do something that he knows, something he’s very familiar with.
He’s standing in the kitchen with a few things set up on the counter. He works as if he’s lived in a kitchen his whole life, frying potatoes and chopping up vegetables and meats. Anyone watching him might comment that it doesn’t look like Toby at all. There is a slight up curl to his lips, not his usual smirk but a smile as he works. Alluring smells begin to drift through the kitchen and he hopes that is enough to call his roommate from her hiding place.]
action; everglade
When scouting this place, Drizzt always came with Guenwhyvar. With his infravision, darkness was no obstacle, but claw and stealth and a friend at your side is always a preferable way to explore. His nose was no more fine-tuned than that a human, but Guen's had a history of finding trouble before it found them, and this night was no exception. She'd scouted ahead, but had stopped. The darkness of the new moon overhead urged him to slide his vision into the infrared spectrum in order to see what might be on the horizon.
The grumbling figure, stooped now and obviously injured, or poisoned by appearances, was large even by human standards. As Drizzt neared the clearly, if he hadn't know any better, he would have thought the hulking form an orc rather than a man.
Guen stopped at the edge of the clearly, her body low, as though she were encountering another predator, and a formidable one, and it gave the dark elf pause. He drew a scimitar from his hip, readied but not threatening.]
Peace, stranger. We mean you no harm.
action; everglade
Your sword suggests otherwise.
[He nods his head to the sword and the pushes his fingers through his hair. He feels his forehead burning which adds another annoyance to the currently mounting list of things that are bothering him.]
Lucky for me. I'm in no shape to fight.
[Toby can't even pretend he isn't having a hard time. He can probably defend himself if he needs to but he doesn't want to waste his strength.]
action; everglade
A precaution, not a threat. [He lowers the weapon but doesn't move to put it away, instead moving it to his side and standing upright rather than prepared for an attack.]
I am Drizzt Do'Urden. [He watches the larger man for a moment before continuing.] I know something of poisons. Do you require aid?
action; everglade
Toby. [He replies in a short tone. He's currently watching Guen, with a curious look to his gaze.] I need sleep. Cures won't work. [At least modern medicine has never worked.]
You're friend here.
[He nods his head towards Guen.]
She smells like magic. Is she yours?
[His understand of magic is very limited but he knows that magic in his world needs a caster or a caller. Whatever people want to call it, it's someone who helps shape the energy.]
action; everglade
She is called Guenwhyvar, and she is my friend, my teacher, and my confidant, but she is not my pet. [He frowns.] She was bound by a sorcerer to a statuette of a great cat. She is a Shadow of the Shadow Plane.
[And that is Drizzt's extent of knowledge on Guen's origin. While they speak, Guen stands, nudging Drizzt's sword hand before approaching Toby, tasting the air as she goes.]
action; everglade
[Luckily his companions caught the prick who did it. Toby grunts, pushing his back against a thick tree. He watches as Guen began to approach, his eyebrow raising in a curious arch. It's very difficult for Toby to look unthreatening but he can at least show Guen through body language. It's easier to talk that way anyway.]
I never said she was a pet. [There is a harsh memory to his tone, suggesting that such a notion would be disgusting. Toby knows what it's like to be someone's pet.] Magic usually has to be grounded somewhere. [He explains feeling incredibly tired by this conversation.]
action; everglade
He approaches his new friend, Toby, and offers him the water skin.]
It may do little to help, but this plant should help with your discomfort. Sleep. Guenwhyvar and I will keep watch.
[He waits for Toby to take the water skin before he takes a seat on a small rock nearby and looking over to his feline companion.] You did not. [He nods at Toby's observation.] She is connected to this. [He reaches back into his pack and pulls out a statue of a panther, carved from obsidian.] She is bound to the voice of the statue's owner. She will come when I call her, and go when I bid it. [He raises a hand to illustrate he isn't finished with his explanation.] In my homeland, a sorcerer used her to murder his enemies, to torment them, torture them. I killed him for this sin, and saved her. She has been a constant companion in my exile.
action; everglade
Toby gulps the liquid easily draining half the skin in a few short seconds. The water is cool against the back of his throat and a welcome change to the warmth of his fever. When finished he holds it out for Drizzt to take, removing any excess drips from his chin using the back of his hand.]
I'll be fine. Water is enough.
[He sees no reason to comment on Guen. It's good that he's with Drizzt, for both their sakes, assuming the story is true.]

Is breakfast really an apology?
He's said a lot of things she really hoped he meant, and didn't believe he'd ever admit, and just thinking that hurt more than she'd ever say. Curiosity won out in the end, though, and she slipped into a pair of sweat pants and a tank top to go see where the food was coming from.
She watched him for a moment, cooking and...smiling? It was...adorable. Damn it.]
You've been holding out on me.
[She crossed her arms.]
Is breakfast really an apology?
Ah, my father owned a dinner.
[This suddenly feels unimportant.]
Hungry?
[He motions towards the chair near the counter which has been set up for Cas to take a seat.]
Is breakfast really an apology?
No, she had to remind herself. You're still angry with him...even if he's adorable...]
So, you like cooking, then? And...yes. More than slightly.
Is breakfast really an apology?
He doesn’t really want to become a monster and that night scared him more than he wants to admit.]
Yeah. Does this count as a hobby? [He chances a glance towards her and sees the slight tug to her lips. He reminds himself that she’s angry but it’s good to see that smile. Bit by bit the pain in his chest ebbs.
He needs to apologize, to say something but he hesitates. He has never done this before and has no idea where to start. Cat’s the only person he’s somewhat opened up to and even that was difficult.]
Is breakfast really an apology?
[She shrugs. He was so hesitant, like he was afraid if he breathed wrong, she'd be even more angry than she already was. The truth of the matter was, she wasn't angry because of what he'd done, or the things he'd said.
She was angry because they were things she'd been wanting to hear for a while now, and it had taken some weird drink he didn't even know, just to say them. It make her question their validity and that hurt. It wasn't fair that it hurt that much.]
And if you enjoy it then yeah, it's a hobby.
Is breakfast really an apology?
This will be done shortly.
[He glances over at Cas feeling his throat constrict with the effort of speech.]
What would you like to drink?
[He bought food so he knows what they have and while he really wants to say what's on his mind it's growing more and more difficult. He doesn't stare at her for long but looks back at the pan and the potatoes crisping inside of it. He really sucks at this and he doesn't know why it's so hard to think. He's run through the lines a hundred times in his head.]
Is breakfast really an apology?
I don't know. Orange juice or something. Do we have orange juice?
[She leans back in her chair, crossing her arms.]
So. What's bothering you?
Is breakfast really an apology?
I wanted to apologize.
[He feels like an ass.]
I'm not very good at it.
[He places the cup in front of her and then finishes their breakfast. There is a lot of food though it's a size suitable for two werewolves. He places three full plates between them and then pulls up a chair to the other side of the counter. His own drink is milk which he's been sipping at all through cooking.]

[action, genessia city]
He paid some attention to the surroundings and how the lack of light took away from details and oddities that usually helped guide him during the day, but he also took notice of any people that he passed. To know any place was to know the people who lived there, after all.
The string of profanities uttered from the direction of a nearby man definitely qualified as one of those things worth noticing. He didn't look like he was in too good of shape, either. Part of his instincts told him to stay out of it, but his feet knew before his mind that he couldn't. He stepped a bit closer, his eyebrows furrowed slightly both from worry and a sense of hesitation. ]
Excuse me? It looks like you could use a hand.
[action, genessia city]
Stormy gray eyes look over at Jefferson, his expression impassive though cautious. This isn't a good time for him to meet someone who might cause trouble. He's hoping that he has some small measure of luck after his idiotic plan.]
A hand, an arm, a leg...
[A humorless smirk tugs at his lips.]
Which way is the park?
[Toby assumes he can lay down there and sleep for a few hours. That's all it would take for his fever to break and his body to fight off the poison.]
[action, genessia city]
The other way. But is that really the best place for you to be going right now? I'm thinking the hospital would be better.
[action, genessia city]
Hospital can’t do anything for this. I just need a place to sleep.
[His fever is continuing to climb and Toby can feel each painful degree. A human would be dead at this point and yet Toby keeps walking.]
I’m fine.
[action, genessia city]
Want to fill me in on why they can't?
[ He only rolled his eyes at the second comment. If the stubborn man was fine then Jefferson was Jiminy Cricket.
Who he knew for a fact he wasn't. Because someone else was Jiminy Cricket.
So. ]
[action, genessia city]
My immune system will fight against cures as well as poisons.
[He grunts softly and makes his way towards the park. God he's feeling tired and he has no idea why this guy is talking to him or asking so many questions. It isn't as if he's being particularly secretive. He's just fighting a poison that would have killed a normal human.]
[action, genessia city]
Pardon me if this is a little too far out there but I'm going to take a wild guess that you're not entirely human.
[ Even if he didn't have normal limitations, he still looked miserable. ]
At the very least you should be resting somewhere that isn't a park bush.
[action, genessia city]
Does it matter that I'm not human?
[He doesn't fault the fact but he isn't ashamed of it either.]
I said I'll be fine.
[Toby releases a slow huff of air, his expression falling from stubborn to sad.]
I can't go home.

Action; Everglade, during the the bounty
A hunt like this worked better for a team. Toby would be bait. Apparently, he figured the poison wouldn't kill him. Cas had the fancier weapon for more efficient shooting. Joruk had the insight from a lifetime of using archery to hunt for food. Fai was the Guardian, and likely quite powerful.
Joruk found a good vantage point, and followed his part of the not-so-great plan. There were too many things that could go wrong. Would Toby be okay if he got shot with poison? What if that archer had backup?
