Mission 8 - Birthday Bash
Video; Public
[Troy makes another video announcement during his lunch break, standing at the hangar of Nova City's Guardian HQ. He's out of his armor at the moment, wearing only casual clothes that fits his athletic physique. He greets the network with a two-fingered salute and a relaxed grin while walking around the clean and sleek hallways of the tower]Video; Locked to Satsuki Kiryuin
Genessia, wassup. This is Deputy Dantes. Gonna make this quick, but I'm calling out to ask if there's any of you with backgrounds in the military, law-enforcement, paramilitary, hell even intelligence. I'd like to get to know you guys today and maybe shoot the shit at the Holodeck'd here in the city tomorrow. The Holodeck'd is about as real as it gets, so I'd want to know if we can work well together first. Even if you don't have a background in any of those, and just want to stretch your legs, get a good workout in. Still let me know. It's gonna be fun. Nothing like getting your blood pumping and nearly dying when celebrating one's birthday, right? If none of us die or get seriously maimed in there, I'll personally treat you guys to one of my favorite places to eat at
[After that public invite, he wanted to contact Satsuki personally to ask. He figured she wouldn't be compelled to go if the invite was more for everyone. After that trip to Tokyo, he wanted to hang out with her and get her to have fun more. But his demeanour and tone with this video message is a bit more serious]Video; Locked to Dante Sparda
Yo, Satsuki. It's been some time since I've seen you in action, huh? Just wanting to let ya know, that invite is valid for today too. I'll wait 'til tomorrow to see the others there, but if you have free time tonight, I'd like to hop in the Holodeck'd with you.
[Troy has an idea he'd been mulling around in his mind for some time now, and he decided that it might be time to make it a reality]
[After his message to Satsuki, Troy wanted to make his final round of messages before he actually heads to lunch. He had thought about sending this one a while ago, but he held off on it for a few reasons. He's heard of this guy from Gale, and Troy himself saw Dante's public video post announcing the subarchway to Devil May Cry opening. It was worth the shot, he thought.]
Dante, is it? This is Deputy Troy from Nova City. I'd like to talk to ya about something. If you haven't already seen the public invite I had for a little rumble in the Holodeck'd tomorrow, I'd like to talk to you now about something relating to your demon hunting business.
video;
[He does have a slight smile on his face while saying that, certainly not criticizing the idea. ]
Still, I'd like to join you, if I can.
no subject
[Troy laughs]
You're welcome to join. I know you enough to not hesitate. You got some training that I hope you're keeping up with? Just don't want you gassing out in there.
no subject
[He's still got nothing on Troy himself, but Blaze is satisfied with the training he's been working with so far.]
Besides, I won't be able to improve if I don't push my boundaries.
no subject
[Troy nods. It doesn't show in his usual laid-back smile that he's donning, but he's really impressed with Blaze's diligence and spirit. Troy sees a lot of himself and his Kublan friends in Blaze's attitude]
Alright. I get the feeling you're legit. 8 PM tomorrow. I'll provide the toys. Ever used weapons from Nova City before?
Video
Ex-Marine, spook, and mercenary in that order. Got a little more than paintball on your mind?
no subject
Was thinking of suicide missions with explosions and blaster bolts flying at you from all places.
[He chuckles softly, turning the subject back to a little more serious note]
But an ex-Marine eh? Respect. How long?
[Depending on how long Marc served, what unit, and what wars he's been to would influence Troy's decision on what sort of missions he'll choose for them]
no subject
It's been a long time, but that's about the only kind I like.
[He nods and pumps a fist over his heart, briefly extending it to acknowledge the respect and give it right back.]
That's two tours of duty, including Somalia and Operation Just Cause. Not all that long, but it got me ready for Langley and merc work. Combine all that and... yeah, I've seen action pretty much everywhere on God's green Earth.
no subject
Excellent, you're so far the most experienced person who responded to me here. A few questions, though. First off, do you have any sort of superhuman ability?
no subject
Nah, not a lick. And pretty damn proud of it.
no subject
Hmm...I'm not much into "military", but I have used the Holodeck'd for my sword training.
no subject
Ah, well...
[He sucks his teeth, taking another second]
By yourself or with others?
no subject
I mostly train by myself...but I do spar with others regularly in the Colosseum in Attleton.
no subject
You train by yourself...
[He repeats to himself, looking away for a moment. That doesn't mean this woman can't be allowed to join, but Troy immediately jumps to the conclusion that she's more of a duelist than someone who has battlefield experience where teamwork is crucial]
If you don't mind me asking, before you were sent here, have you been to actual war?
[Even if Karla did go to war, her style wouldn't probably mesh with his more modern one. But Troy is nothing if not adaptable. He's had his fair share of melee tussles in open battlefields before, so he can find a way to include that for Karla]
no subject
Hmm...shortly before I arrived, I joined a ragtag group on a dangerous journey. We fought against beings that they referred to as "Morphs." They looked human...but they all had black hair and gold, almost glowing eyes.
Perhaps it wasn't a full-scale war, but it was a small army of people with different backgrounds fighting as a team.

I'm sure you don't, man.
[He pauses, taking a second to decide if he's even going to bother asking Ted if the guy has what it takes.]
I mean it when I said it's about as real as it gets down there. People can die for real, and I don't know what sort of training you have man.
no subject
idiotrisk-taker]"Ah, the reality of consequences. Well, that can all be avoided if you use the Arena, though that can be hard to reserve...
You needn't worry about my expertise; I've learned from the best. You name it; legendary swordsmen, lord of the netherworld, and the Nova City academies.
Oh, and Satsuki. Can't forget her. [Though she is just a girl so that one probably doesn't sound as impressive]
no subject
That's a lot of teachers, kid. You sure are eager to learn.
[And it shows]
These, uh, "legendary" swordsmen and netherworld lords have names?
no subject
[Troy you cannot deny the coolness of demon lords. You just can't. It's not allowed.]
Thank you; I should hope so, if it's going to be as perilous as you say.
Hah, well of course, though won't you allow me some selfishness for having their whole attention?
[If that doesn't work...] Ike and Vyers, respectively. [Ted sounds a bit melancholy. He still misses Vyers quite a bit; so much so that just saying his name revives bittersweet memories.]
VIDEO!
[Birthdays are important!]
no subject
[He repeats out loud to himself, puzzled and amused at the same time. He chuckles to himself. It's definitely not something a person asks on birthdays. But Levy's excitement could have carried the girl away]
Well, uh, that's really up to you. I don't mind at all. Aaand contrary to popular belief, I can manage my time well enough. You don't have to mail anything.
no subject
Are you sure? Besides I'll probably just get you a book. [She laughs softly.] You're always working or in this case practice.
[She thinks about her own practice for a moment.] I've been practicing with Blaze with swords but I have a feeling what you're doing is more intensive.
no subject
[He laughs]
I can't compare my training methods to others, but I guess it is? What's "intensive" vary from person to person.
no subject
[Levy laughs soft before shaking her head. It isn't like it's a mystery that she'll get her friends books but who knows, maybe Troy will get something a little extra.]
How do you train? Don't you fight in that suit?
[She's seen it though not in action.]
video;
Why not? I'm in.
no subject
[Troy follows with a laugh. He gives a slight nod upward before he asks]
What's your background? You look like you've been through some proper training.
no subject
Uh, paramilitary, espionage...private-sector.
no subject
[Not specifying any of his affiliations said a lot about Clay already. Troy can understand, but giving a general answer like that didn't help Clay inch a bit closer to Troy's circle of trust yet. So whether or not he'll invite Clay to the Holodeck'd is still up in the air. That gives Troy a bit of a pause before he speaks]
I have a similar background. I started off with a paramilitary group in the Philippines before I joined and became a special agent for the private sector in my world. Government-ran military forces are on the decline there, PMCs pretty much do all the work. That the same case where you're from?
no subject
Pretty much, but I was only a part of a group for a couple years. I was tagged for a...special project. [And he means tagged in the most literal of senses.] And after that, for a while, I did a lot of different things for my boss. A jack-of-all-trades, I guess you could say.
Video
...Yo. Yeah, I can talk. What's up?
[There's a pause as he scrambles back to an upright position and in frame of the camera.]
Usually I have a password for this sort of thing but considering the circumstances, you have my attention. What's up?
[Private]
[That made Troy smirk a little, but he returns to his "business" face pretty quickly]
Our mutual buddy Gale talked a bit about ya, and I saw your video broadcast in the net a while back I didn't get to respond at the time, but with recent events, I thought about asking if you could lend your expertise.
If you read the papers, I'm sure you heard of Cinder Fall.
[Private]
Yeah, I've heard of her. Both from the papers and from someone with some hands-on experience. Why?

[Voice] Private
[Troy figured correctly for the most part, but it was the mention of his birthday that ended up really catching her interest. Troy is quicker on the draw though, and once she gets his message for a more personal session she can't help but feel...
Flattered? Embarrassed? Slightly confused? Either way she's on voice for the moment; mainly because she feels her cheeks are hot and it's probably visible enough for him to joke about. She sounds normal enough at least.]
Tonight would be acceptable; I get out of work at six.
[Beat.]
-thirty.
[That will give her time to pick something up.]
