Drip.
Drip.

Cherise's lashes twitched. That blasted faucet. She thought for sure she'd fixed it, and had enjoyed two weeks of peace. The thing was determined to disturb her sleep. She opened her eyes and sat up with a mumbled curse on her lips.
Something tumbled off of her lap, and when she reached to throw off her blanket, she found there was nothing there. She was wearing her black pencil skirt and charcoal blouse as well, she noted, and she never wore her work clothes to bed.
Suddenly more alert, she got her first good look at the stony cavern in which she found herself. There was water everywhere, still as glass, save for the ripples flitting away from whatever had fallen off of her lap. Her stomach tightened in alarm, but then she relaxed. Still water was no danger to her; only running water would cut off access to her magic. She still had her wand, she noted, and if she were a captive the wand would certainly have been taken from her.
Swinging her long legs off of the strange metallic coccoon platform, she dropped down with a light 'splish' as her pumps hit the shallow water. It wasn't deep. There seemed to be several openings in the rocky dome, all promising sunlight. Cherise stooped to retrieve the item she'd dislodged, finding that it was a small box. Tucking it under her arm, she took an uncertain step forward, then another. Her wand lay against her wrist; she wanted to be able to use it in case there was danger, but she didn't want to raise any undue alarm herself.
"Hello?" she called, her voice echoing throughout the chamber.

She had gotten there, same as her, and once she had gotten over the initial panic (finding the new place somewhat interesting helped), she looked at her instructions and handheld device. Karina had tried reading a little, then gave up and took a nap instead. Which was good, because now instead of asking someone else to take her out, another person would come right to her.
Sleepily, she extended her greeting. "Sup." (she looks weird)
no subject
"Hello," Cherise returned the greeting politely, taking slow steps in Karina's direction. "Do you...live here?" She asked the question with a sidelong glance. Her clothes were highly unusual to be sure. It didn't look like a costume.
What was going on?
no subject
"Actually, I'm the valet here. We're gathering princesses from all over so that..."
Yeah, that's all she's got.
"No, I'm new here too. (Isn't it obvious?)" Karina stretched while letting out a yawn, then scanned down Cherise's body for anything of interest. Normal hair, normal clothes, normal shoes...a wand. Strangely, where Karina comes from there aren't any toy wands, so that made Cherise out to be a magic user in her mind. Maybe she even had a teleport spell...! Karina dared to dream.
"Did you read the thing?" Karina asked, pointing vaguely at where Cherise might keep her pamphlet.
no subject
"Ah, no," Cherise admitted, looking down at the box. "I wasn't aware it contained any reading material. One moment."
With her wand slipped into her pocket, she opened the box and rifled through the contents. The necklace was lovely, she noted, but she didn't put it on. She thought it best to do a few divining charms to ensure the thing wasn't cursed. Next she dug out the pamphlet and flipped it open to read. As she did, her eyebrows arched higher. Shocked beyond disbelief, she pursed her lips, and gave the most intelligible response she could summon.
"...Huh."
no subject
"Hey, c'mon. What's it say?"
no subject
It was lacking the sort of evil flair Cherise half-expected to find, like gloating over being trapped in a hellish prison. The pamphlet was downright welcoming.
Nonetheless, she didn't intend to stay if she had a choice in the matter.
"Shall we see what this city has to offer, then?"
no subject
Did she say...city?
If Cherise looked really hard, she could see the excitement flutter in Karina's heart. And then see it dashed as she entertained the prospect of leaving, i.e. walking.
"*sigh* Yeah. But can't you like, I don't know. Use your magic to get us out of here?" Every wizard had to have some kind of "get out of effort" card up their sleeve, right? Kinda defeats the purpose otherwise.
no subject
"You've...never cast a spell before, have you...?" It was odd, running into someone who couldn't perform magic. Granted there were some people on her world who lacked magic powers, but they were by and large criminals stripped of their abilities as punishment for their misdeeds. Was this girl a miscreant too? It was difficult to believe.
"Unless I know the area very well, a teleportation spell runs a high risk of lodging myself and others into a very uncomfortable spot...like a brick wall. If you can't breathe, you can't speak, and there's no spell to undo such a foolish mistake."
no subject
Yeah, Karina was stopping that thought train before she got into a wreck.
"I meant just the written part." She liked jewelry, so she put on the necklace unaware of what that signified here.
Karina thought about what a sticking-out-of-the-wall Cherise would look like, and giggled. "That sounds funny." Wait, did she just insinuate that Karina was a muggle? This would not stand.
"Hey, I can cast spells too. Just...not right now. (I'd need a staff and I don't feel like it so there)"
Oop, brain fart. Karina totally forgot the most important part of an introduction. "I'm Karina. How about you?"
no subject
But onto more pleasant matters. With a quick smile, Cherise inclined her head. "Cherise. How do you do, Karina. So you do know some spells, then? Do you have a specialty?"
no subject
Speaking of thoughts, Karina's train kept right on going. Being whisked to a fantasy land was supposed to be exciting, with handsome princes at the end. What kind of fairy tale starts with the princess seeking employment? Ugh. So lame.
Karina wallowed in her fret for a while before replying. "Specialty...I guess." Articulation came to her sporadically. "Um, I can focus on something...and it'll always work, but it won't do very much." That'd have to suffice. Specifically, Karina was talking about her "Lock on Lore", an obscure technique that was like her world's version of magic missile. Always accurate, but with unimpressive results. Even when she was in danger, she tended to stay back and watch anyway, making actually seeing this technqiue a rarity.
She swept her hair. "So where are we going? (somewhere close?)"
no subject
"I suppose we'll find out when we get there," the sorceress sighed. They had a map, but there was no way to determine which way was north until they could head outside and examine the streets for themselves.
no subject
For about 100 steps. Clearly her nap had not been sufficient, for Karina then sank to her knees, looking defeated on the ground. "I need a break..."

She motioned toward her communicator. "Hey...do you know where to find this address?"
no subject
But she did look at the address. "Ah...well I've only just awoken, so I couldn't give you directions personally. But I do recall seeing a map included in the brochure. It's only a matter of orienting yourself." She turned to look toward the exit. "Which can only be done by leaving this place, I assume."
Then she walked REAL FAST OUT
Karina's stomach began to growl. Now was her moment. Now was the time to take charge and venture forth into this brave new world.
"I think I can walk again. Let's go...(you take care of the map reading please)"
