[ As the sun begins to set on this day, Alisaie decides to finally take the plunge and make a call to introduce herself. It's only proper now that she's been here for a little over a week and she has a better head on her shoulders than when she first arrived. The newspaper from a few days ago gave her a better impression of this place than anything a civilian would have told her. Their so-called guardians brought down isn't easy to swallow but it does inform her the dangers in this world.
Which is why she's kept her head down low. Even now, when she intends to introduce herself she has her white hair fallen over her eyes.
Isn't this sight a bit familiar though or is it a fleeting moment of dΓ©jΓ vu? The only difference that can be seen from her current posture is the difference in clothes. Even the flush tint to her lips is pale, having grown homesick in her time apart from Eorzea. She frets a little, not knowing of the happenings going on and more importantly being unable to check in on her brother from the safe distance of having to not interact with him. ]
Good evening to all who answer my call at this bell. [ Properly spoken under her breath, though she doesn't bother to speak up so good luck understanding the murmuring. ] I am a scholar from the nation of Sharlayan although here I have been working as a shop clerk for Aster Technologies in Nova City. Having been here for a week and four suns approximately, I have chosen to not sit around lamenting my abduction from my homeland in favor of acquiring more for my new life here.
[ A brief pause, and then in an accusing tone: ] We are stuck here, are we not? If there is a way to return, I will give all of my earnings and whatever else you may seek to know the truth.
Rest assured, I do not mean to give up on the people of this world in turn. [ She just rather focus on the people of her world first. No hard feelings, kay? ] I just cannot devote myself to your cause until I know for certain that our abductions are not cause of punishment.
[ In short, she remains unconvinced that they are prisoners due to their own faults. Alisaie has engaged in questionable things herself and knows her slate to not be as pure as her brother's, so naturally it would make sense she was captured. At the same time, she recalls seeing hundreds of dragons imprisoned against their will so she can't help feeling a bit ill over the situation. ]
... it is foolish to believe we are responsible for this. It happened against our very will, did it not? The ones responsible for this are no better than the Allagan themselves. Have they revealed themselves to us? I would have words with them.
[ Very strong words judging by the fact her tone has picked up a little. She's mad, alright.
also she didn't give a name. What a great introduction. At least she told people where they could find her!! ]

Devilish musings
Liberal use of personal pronouns for maximum selfishness and alienation. Repeating the same old topics every new arrival did; how did they get here, who's responsible, etc. This would surely bore everyone who might have otherwise been interested. As it stands, most are jaded by their plight, and would rather talk about anything else.
And what else did she give them to talk about? Any mutual interest? Even a scrap of something someone else could relate to? No; she hadn't even given a name! Just opaque references to her own world that no one would be willing or able to care for or know about.
Puscrunch would be hard pressed to do much better. There were, to his mind, only three kinds who might stand a chance at breaking her solitude.
1. The Charitable; those whose heart goes out to everyone, no matter what. Not very many of those.
2. The lustful. Fortunately, every girl in Genessia was about as pretty as the next, so it's unlikely any would be especially taken by her dubious charms. And if they were, she's virtually guaranteed to show them the door.
No shipping allowed3. The mockers; those who take pleasure in ruffling feathers. Alas, these he cannot predict. Thankfully, the patient takes herself seriously, and stands no chance of letting humor crack her into a smile. That might lead to humility or joy, and she's in no mood for either. In fact, the mere specter of these clowns would probably drive her into positive hatred!
Everything's looking good so far. The only one who's sure to notice is her brother, whom we've already rendered ineffectual.]

As far as I know, there's no way to escape. We get brought here on a whim, and some people get sent home on a whim. There doesn't seem to be any type of rhyme or reason to it.
Has there been talk of how maybe this is some sort of punishment? Because if so, that's completely groundless. I've not heard a single thing to convince me of that, and I consider it as reliable as horse dung until I see some solid proof.

As for your questions about the world, we've made little to no progress getting back. Besides, why would you want to? That would be like putting down a book you haven't reached the end of. Don't you want to see this world's conclusion, or at least play the part it no doubt has for you? You've got to have a touch of romance.
As for happening against your will...well, don't you think that's a tad trite? If you had an account of everything that happened in the entire universe, wouldn't practically all of them happen "against your will"? Or at least in ignorance of it. Goodness, that's the only way to have any fun or be surprised.
My own theory is that there's no punitive aspect, though if there was, who could object? Are we not all sinners? Still, I believe this world is in a state of some desperation, and needs creatures like us to sort it out. That's the impression I got from the one encounter I had with this world's native Spirits.
video;
[Yes, he is very surprised to see her. Usually he knows where she is, or at least has a feeling. He's felt absolutely disconnected from Eorzea and from thoughts of his sister since he arrived. It's that twin thing, you know-- he might worry about her, but he felt so unsettled. He didn't know if she was okay or not.
Then again, she was probably doing better than he was.
It's been a week and a half and he still doesn't have a job. That stings a bit, but... well, he's more than overjoyed to see her, and somewhat embarrassed, and a lot of other complicated things.]
Dear sister, I believe to the bottom of my heart that you would have more than words with our captors, but no one seems to know anything-- and such has been the way for as long as anyone has been here. A year, two years, perhaps more... I cannot say for sure, but I have seen no direct evidence of meddling aside from our transportation.
But enough about that. Are you all right? I have not had the chance to send you a letter or anything of the sort since... well, you are aware.
[Since he got his ass kicked out of Eorzea, that's what.]
-- Where are you, currently?

Brother. [ It was probably a bad idea to start off with a reminder of his neglect in Ishgard judging by the furrowing of her brows, but she doesn't snap at him outright. ] You did an admirable job in Ishgard from what my sources gathered. Where would you have found the time to set aside to write your dear sister?
[ Her tone betrays her emotions as it always has but the pain is fleeting, dismissed before it has a chance to settle down. ]
It appears as if your hearing is impeccable but your listening skills leave much to be desired. [ Shifting a bit uncomfortably in place. He never seems to have trouble listening when it came to his politics, did he? ] Nova City. It's what I said earlier.

She's a little hesitant to think so. Right from the start, she makes one thing clear: ] I have had my fill of fixing one world's problems. I haven't the time to bother with any other. After all, what reward is there in restoring a world that I remain a foreigner in?
[ Alisaie is no Warrior of Light. She's no mystical force that can be called upon to restore good in a world and to do what is needed simply because it's what needs to be done. She is a scholar, an arcanist who has her own goals in mind and very little in this realm could direct her to said goals. ]
Sharlayan is my home nation. An island not so far away from the continent of Eorzea, we focus on the pursuit of knowledge and how to better ourselves with the wisdom we have gained. Hyur are a race commonly found on Eorzea, as are the Elezen. The former tend to be of a smaller physique but they are a hearty people while the Elezen are lithe in both limb and movement. Both races inhabit Ishgard though I know little of it. The city-state of Ishgard is opposed to outsiders albeit they have been more welcoming as of late.
[ It's easier to talk when she can explain things so she does. ] The Allagan Empire hasn't existed for a long time. It was created well over five thousand years ago and held many territories throughout my home world of Hydaelyn. Their magic and technology is greater than any we known in our time. Much of Nova City reminds me of their creations so I have been studying here in my spare time.

If it were anything else, it would simply drag in larger groups at a time. ]
Yes, that sounds about right.

I suppose "crease" is too simplistic. It's a little closer to a blackhole, or whirlpool, drawing in those with the most reason to be sucked in, but leaving most others out.

It was merely speculation, was all. [ Commentary to go alongside her introduction.
Not that she made it much of an introduction. It's almost as if she neglected that part once she started to speak of this world. ]
I cannot deny that your words do little to put my mind at ease. There are times where the strongest thoughts are muttered the quietest.

My thanks for your world's biography. Unfortunately, I think you may have to put that on the shelf for now. Indeed, acclimatizing to Nova City is already a progressive step.
You may want to rethink your prospective altruism towards this world. Come now, aren't you being a touch silly? 'What reward is there in helping the world you're in'? (Paraphrasing, of course). I should think the answer to that question rather obvious. Xenophilia doesn't burn as brightly as patriotism, true, but as the latter's object is far from you, what else is there?
Don't think I've forgotten about Alphinaud, either! I won't let you be coy about him.

--or at least prevent it from drawing others in. That would be the righteous thing to do.

As for commonality, it's all strings. Time, fate, like red glowing threads. I can trace them, but I can't weave them. They're extremely difficult to bind together, even should you want to. Even if they all want them to be. Each thread is the timeline of a person. Where they go twists and turns, and even when they make loops all the way out to far stretches like this, they loop back to their proper places, and really...
I'd rather know how to tug them out of place.
But by all means, research away. I won't stop you. [Just use whatever you find probably....]

Alisaie... I have not forgotten you, not once, nor have I forgotten what you have done for me and for Eorzea. You must believe me.
[His lips form a line.]
I heard that, yes, but I was asking for something more specific. Though, if you would derive some amusement from watching me run about the breadth of the entire city calling your full name, then I shall, and I will neither shirk this duty nor complain about it.
[He has been learning, after all.]
I will be there shortly.

[There's a reason Ike is celebrated for his honesty, after all.]
But I don't blame you, considering we only just met. And everything about this situation is as far-fetched as you can get.

As much as such antics would entertain me, we are no longer children. [ So please, dearest brother, don't go running around all of Nova City shouting her name as though they were playing a game.
While she doesn't mind telling him of the firm where she spends her days, it's a smaller building and harder to locate. She'll ease his burden a little and indulge in her otherworldly curiosities both at the same time. ]
Let us meet at the Planetarium. [ Who knows, maybe it'll be fun. The building is large and one of the easier sites to get directions for in Nova City as well as public. No doubt there will be a crowd there to keep them from making a scene with one another. ]

I hold no ill thoughts towards my brother. [ Though it's time to nip this rumor in the bud before it could blossom into something troubling. ] We shared a womb together but as we grew older, our differences became abundantly clear in our actions. We seek out different paths while sharing the same goal.
You may have already discern the differences between us. [ Alphinaud is a diplomat who loves speaking with others. Alisaie is... not. ]
As for being silly in regards to this world, am I truly? Perhaps our benefactors should put me back where I belong then if I am of no use to them.
no subject
If they only brought in those that could benefit from such an experience, then there would not be so much distrust sown about. [ Not just of the people here, but of the reasons why they were brought here. ]
I am no adventurer. [ This isn't true. Alisaie travels like any other, she just sticks to her goals rather than help out. Not that she's opposed to doing the latter, she just... doesn't. There's usually a Warrior of Light or some other sellsword who wishes to be a hero to do just that. ]
I would hear more of these strings however. You can trace them so easily? [ Does he have the Echo as well? The power to view into a person's past and trace the events that have defined them. Alisaie has heard of it, having rarely witnessed it for herself. ]
no subject
If you have been here long enough to hear otherwise, then what purpose do you believe there is in having so many from other worlds gathered in a single realm?
no subject
Not that she was going to do it herself. That was better saved for heroes, which she's not. ]

No ill thoughts...but no healthy ones, either. [That was suspicious. Ted blithely wondered how anyone could be cold about one like her brother. Then again, maybe it's that old saw about growing in one's shadow, or knowing the 'real' personality behind the facade, or a hundred other reasons siblings, tragically, don't seem to love each other. Ted almost wanted to express his jealousy to her, for he had no siblings, not even ones to despise.]
Ah, and what is that goal? If it's broad enough, you'll certainly be able to continue that here.
Yes, I believe your silliness remains. Even if you held the world in utter contempt--a position not entirely indefensible--it'd still be in your interests to furnish it nicely. If not for your own sake, certainly for others, whom you must know by now share your fate exactly.
But how could one stay mad at it for long? It's all so...new. Men on my planets would give everything they had to spend a day in a realm so fantastic. Even if your own world licks it hollow, I should think pity would overtake anger. Genessia is the proverbial desperate thief, stealing not because it's greedy, but hungry. I believe it's us who must be the benefactors.

The Planetarium, [he repeats, and he already likes the sound of this. A place where they can study the movements of the stars and planets? It sounds like home.] I have long since given up on the art of divination, but I would never turn down the opportunity to learn more about the heavens in a strange new world. [And it will be all the sweeter to discover those things beside his sister.]
It is quite inconvenient to move and also speak into this linkpearl, so if you do not mind overmuch, I will save the rest of my words for when we see each other.

I'm not convinced there is a purpose. I've never actually seen anything that would imply some kind of purpose. But if I had to guess...then I guess that, if anything, the natives here need our protection.

Then perhaps they should have asked if we would be willing to give it rather than boldly abduct us against our own wills. [ She's still a young thing, quick to emotion despite being raised otherwise. ]

I know I still have places I want to see before I settle down. But I don't have that choice here.
