[ honestly, waking up in a tin bowl in the middle of a cave puddle isn't the strangest thing that's happened to coby in his lifetime. it is, perhaps, noteworthy at best.
thank goodness for miss schnee, or he'd have to deal with a bigger headache than he already has. ]
a. side streets make for good shortcuts, right?
[ wrong. it ought to have been obvious from the get-go that trying to bypass the distance from point A to point B would be impossible in a strange city. look where it lands zoro, half the time.
embarrassing as heck, to be frank.
at least he's impossible to miss, what with the big white coat and, yes, painfully pink hair. please help him. look at him, staring at his map in growing consternation. don't leave a bro hanging. ]
b. the shrine
[ at least, of all the places he could have possibly wound up, the area around the shrine is remarkably peaceful. a little quiet to collect his thought would be appreciated. time to digest, time to cope, time to convince himself that hysterics were definitely not the answer anyone needed right now.
let's... let's just take a seat over here, why don't we. that's fine, nice and easy.
everything's fine. life is perfect. (no it isn't.) ]

just gotta remember not to smile or look too excited about this fact.
(he succeeds only partially on this matter) ]
I suppose we ought to be grateful, then. It could have turned out to be a lot worse, all things considered.

[Weirdo.]
Hold onto that optimism in case Akainu shows up.
[Smoker already said he wouldn't even try to fight him or persuade him, just evacuate civilians oops.]

Working miracles is a little beyond my skillset at present, sir.
[ dont even kid about that bruh ]

[Which he couldn't do.]
[So it was dumb. >:|]
Hah...
[GRINS IN SPITE OF HIMSELF.]
[And face palms!]
Tell me about it.
With the phoenix and other two here, and Kuzan... I don't see how it could end in anything except a war. Maybe if I lured out Portgas someplace else...
[Deep breath. And shrugs.]

[ so he hopes, and he hopes. what would open fighting gain any of them in the long run? ]
There has to be another option available.

I very much doubt there's anyone here other than Portgas who could give the phoenix a reason not to try to extract revenge.
And Akainu has some... odd notions about fate and pre-destiny. His reason for being so hellbent on killing Portgas and Straw-Hat no matter what.
If we're lucky, it will never come up. If not, I very much doubt either of us, even with or without Kuzan's help, could talk Akainu down, do you? [Dude he wanted to kill you for trying to end his "fight more criminals, get more fame for headcount" spree. He took Kuzan's leg and might have fucked up Kizaru. What do you think?]

things he never wanted to think about: the novel, the trilogy, the saga ]
The way things are now, we'll just have to keep vigilant. [ for one of their own, for their own goddamn fleet admiral.
who ever thought it was a good idea to appoint a mad dog to the head of a world-wide law enforcement organization? ]
Worst-case scenario aside, can we count on the pirates present right now to keep chaos at a minimum?

I very much doubt it.
But nothing major has been set on fire and the Phoenix seems to be lying about as low as in our world so...
[.... It's something????]

[ heck. ]
I'll see what I can do about maintaining surveillance, but as it stands now, that's the best that can be done.
[ gosh dang it ]
Thank you for this, sir. I appreciate the information.

[... SIGH.]
It's not preferable, but it's better than the alternatives.
Just follow your sense of justice, and it'll be fine. Kuzan will probably be lazy about his, but he usually is.

thank goodness. ]
I'll endeavor to do my best, sir. I can at least rest assured in the knowledge that I'm not alone here.

Yeah, don't worry about it. Here's my number if you need to call or whatever. [Gives!] And don't get in too much trouble.
