[So Ace got wopped in the mouth by a newspaper crashing through the window. He has to find that news coo so he can tip him because what great service! He gets to be the first one to read it even around the damp sections.

But he also found something that could not be borne.

A Puppy Prison.

Who would do such a horrible thing?

Well whoever would do it, Ace wouldn't tolerate it.

He takes some time to strategize, and then around 1pm, sends this video out to everyone]

Puppies were meant to be free! I won't let anyone hold them hostage under my watch! No matter what they've done!

[and he throws back his head and howls, a few of the dogs howling with him, before the jail break commences.

It was just my uncle and I. My father passed away when I was very young - I do not even remember his face.

[Okay he's going to make Adela pancakes. And leave a couple extra for Ace. Because he doesn't trust his luck to prevent mystery pirates from showing up and scarfing them down.]

It is not important, though. I do still have my uncle, and mostly everyone usually had their own animals to care for. I mean, otherwise no one would really be able to get fresh milk or eggs, right?

I mean it's got a lot of things I've never seen before, but at least I grew up in a city.

It was pretty confusing at first, though I did like to learn about some of it. Some of the time it just made me feel foolish though.

I was content to stay in Fayren most of the time because of it.

Are you familiar with robots?

I have only ever seen them in Nova City.

Since they're made of metal and wires, it's similar to forging and tinkering. Gears and shit.

And Portgas is obsessed with them. Probably read too many comic books as a kid.

[ Pff. She smiles, shaking her head and giving some attention back to the pup, who seems to want tummy rubs. She's almost falling out of her chair to give them. ]

It is, though with different skills required of them oddly enough. I suppose Automail could be called a form of robotics? But it is not at all like the robots one would see walking around in the city.

So you only had farm animals?

Yes. I think my uncle was going to see about getting dogs soon enough, to help better protect them from foxes and wolves - if only by alerting us to their presence.

Dogs are useful like that. They view you as their pack. No matter what species you are or they are.

If justice is blind, it still hears dog barks. [.... That sounded better in his head.]

Maybe it would be good to have a dog around here, though having them in the workshop would be worrisome.

I'm sure we can keep anything too dangerous out of their reach.

It's not like they'll try to master forging behind our backs, after all.

I was not aware that we were going to do forging here.

Besides, they will not be small forever. They may very well get big enough to have longer reach than we would anticipate.

I was making a joke. [Pokes her cheek.] Eh, full-grown dogs are smart enough to stay out of trouble, so long as we puppy-proof it, it should be fine.

[Runs a hand through his hair. Maybe he can convince an orphanage to pair puppies and kids? Convince Kuzan to convince the schools? Daycares?]

Agreed. Not only would we need to earn more money, but we would need more space for them.

... I think I might keep this one.

[ She's poking the nose of the mastiff puppy now, and she can't help laughing when it licks her finger. ]

I'm going to try defeating some more monsters to pick up extra cash. [And Ace might have helped out a bit too, not that he'll admit it.]

[But he grins at the puppy.] Seems like a good choice. He's going to be a monster when he grows up though. Maybe you can train him as a guard and sled dog in the meanwhile.

I would rather not as a sled dog, but a guard dog could be useful.

[ Then maybe you losers won't worry so much about her, though it goes unsaid. She does keep petting the dog though, and it pants while wearing a cute little doggy smile. ]

He will have to know not to attack other dogs though, or friends.

Dogs are usually more friendly than not, so as long as you keep him on the right track, he'd be harder to change to fight.

But yeah, they're better off in at least pairs. That way they have a friend.

They're friends already! ]

Just these two. After they have eaten, we really should return the rest.
