20 ❄ Video

[Fai was leaning on the desk of his office. It was too hot and Fai really didn't know how to handle it. He had been two years at least since he arrived here so he was sure that he should be use to it, but he just wasn't use to this amount of heat. The device had been on as he looked at him, an expression of exhaustion clear on his face.]

It's. To. Hot. [He muttered at the device, clearly not happy about it.]

But that is not why I am using this device. I've been trying to figure out how to get the mayor to change the night time rule. Now, I can't use my power because you know it's nothing to do with me, but as they say the voice of the people is the strongest thing.

[He sighed slightly. He knew he had to move, but he really, really didn't want to. It was too hot.]

While of course he won't pay attention to any human voices, for obvious reasons if anyone who wants to say something say it here so I can give it to him later. If there are enough people who are unhappy about it, it might help.

[He sighed slightly, finally shifting himself as he leant back slightly, leaning back into the chair.]

That is all I need to say, except I think I need to find some way of cooling down.

[Azalea wasn't exactly mad at Fai for banning the dragons from Everglade, because it was the stupid law the made him do it. So she's glad that he's opposing it.]

...I imagine the majority of the people here are human, so I'm not sure there would be enough non-human people to oppose this law. But I, for one, would like to add my voice. Any law that favors one group over another just isn't fair.

On the other hand, I've heard that Dracula coerced the mayor into setting this law. We need to find out if that's true, and exactly how he was coerced into it. Confronting Dracula won't do any good, because no matter what he says or does, it's still up to the mayor himself to change the law.

That was exactly my concern. If it is true, how can we prove it? How do we investigate it?

[Private Video] It would help if I used the right account...

At least I've already done that recently. The mayor announced that Dracula's army visited his office to "lend his support." But why would he need an army marching in as if to go to war just to lend support?

If there's anything I can do, let me know. At least I won't be throwing your power around.

[Being a newcomer, Simon has no idea who this guy is or what he's talking about. Being a prosecutor, however, Simon is intrigued by the fact that apparently there's something mildly political going on.]

Speaking of the voice of the people... I, for one, would like to represent all the newcomers to this place and ask that you add a bit more substance to your bleating. What is this night time rule you speak of? [Respect? For other people? Simon has very little of that, especially at first.]

[It should be obvious from the look on Simon's face that he's outraged by this explanation. He's never heard of a law this inane, and he's familiar with the trainwreck that is the court system in Ace Attorney. There's quite a bit of bristling and huffing from his end.]

What utter... rubbish! I cannot even begin to fathom what sort of reasoning would justify discrimination on this level. Have you people never heard of legal equality? It requires nothing more than an acknowledgement of basic human rights! [... Err.] ...In this case, I suppose that would be 'citizen rights'. Regardless, whichever politician set this law into motion deserves nothing short of impeachment.

[Guardian... He's vaguely read about that position at one point, but with so much to read up on, the details of the job escape him. He makes a mental note to look into it again.]

The only uncolored way to be rid of a backwards law is by utilizing different laws. So long as proper procedure is followed, there can be no talk of abuse or corruption. A petition of discontent civilians may not be enough in this case. Being a politician is more than fancy talk and flashing a confident smile; it requires a person to know the system inside it out and twist it to their liking.

[Simon's moral compass may still be a little skewed just for suggesting something like this, but they do call him the Twisted Samurai for a reason. He's used to twisting things to his liking all the time.]

[Simon can't claim to know the mayor, but he's never seen petitions do well. The paperwork of it all would get conveniently lost in a long period of 'processing' it.]

From my experience, bureaucracy is lengthy and convoluted. Unless your mayor is the impulsive type who would hear these 'voices' you've collected and act upon it immediately, any sort of outcry against the night time rule could very well be left to die down. Such is the convenience of being above the common folk. [From his experience, of course.]

As I said, it would be ideal if you could twist the system to your liking. Find a loophole in the law and exploit it. Such a thing is perfectly legal.

Hmph... If something's rotten, remove the core of it all. Perhaps it is the mayor who deserves replacing.

Hire the elementary school teacher who's too tall to fit in doorways and keeps getting dorky bowties. He can cool you down back to the Ice age. [kekekeke... Smoker is an idiot and not even sorry for that pun that would make sense to very few people.]

What's the night time rule you mentioned?

It's his attack name. He can freeze an entire island or leagues solid of ocean.

Yeah? So you can go fight there at night or something?
justicereigns: (let's get dangerous)

[personal profile] justicereigns 2016-07-22 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Right. he can cover... at least an island. Even more I would expect if he wanted to try and there was no opposition.

But humans can fight, so long as they don't kill? They just risk being killed themselves without consequence for others, correct?

Who even created it?

That is... truly bizarre.

[Still he debates investigating anyway.]

[ Emerald looks perfectly unbothered by the temperature except that she's got her outer white straps off, so she's just wearing a tube top basically. It's hardly that different from her normal clothing though. She's also got a popsicle because damn if she isn't going to take advantage of some poor guy's wallet.

But also Everglade is a whole area she can't get to after night and she's sure if she gets bored, pickpocketing creatures of the night would be more of a challenge than random people. She doesn't discriminate based on species. ]

How did that happen anyway? The time I was here before, Everglade was open to everyone. I came back and suddenly there's a bed time.

Hm...

[ She seems to be considering something, then shrugs. ]

Okay.

[ It sounds like a pain to deal with to her. Honestly, that's just unfair- she should be able to pickpocket everyone equally. Oh well. She'll just leave her response ominous like that and go see if there's anything worth doing. ]
