meowsculinity: I still do, but I used to, too. (I used to do drugs.)

video + action. wowowow.

VIDEO

[ there's a long moment where savir just stares at the phone, fingers rubbing over the screen to black it out every so often. when he finally wills himself to speak his voice is rough, gravelly, and yet surprisingly gentle. ]

Strange. I had not thought myself drunk enough to hallucinate an entire city — and a device such as this! Magnificent, though confusing. Hm. [ he heard the speech from the hologram, - waved his hand through the thing, too, because what the fuck even is that? - looked at the map and, honestly, he just thinks he's straight up losing his mind. old age. death coming for him. wouldn't be the first time he woke up somewhere weird with no recollection of how he managed it or why — though this time was a little bit different. ]

Supposedly others can hear me on this, yes? Hello, if you can, and if so — may I selfishly request a moment of your time to answer some questions I have? I fear all of this is far beyond my realm of expertise.

[ he'd be more specific, but he has like five hundred questions so??? ]

ACTION

[ even while savir is broadcasting that message to the world, he's on the move and planning to investigate. anyone nearby will definitely be able to see the six-foot-seven, burly cat-man wandering around with a confused (and slightly...wistful? weird.) look on his face as he searches aimlessly around the city.

also maybe accidentally smacking people with his tail. you know. ]

Hah, no worries. I forget all the time. [Like right now]

So, what's on your mind?

Hah, well I think it only happens to one once or twice. You seem to be taking it well, at least.

That's one of the encouraging things, actually. Most take it very well, whatever one might assume about universal psychology. I only knew one who approached hysteria, and she was calmed down readily enough. A very cheery sign of health, thinking one never really has an unalienable claim on one's home, or what passes for one temporarily.

[He laughed]

"Safe? Oh dear...well, I suppose if one's content to be a shut-in and not too choosy about where one's shut. Rather misses the point, I think. Do you mind if I reveal something unsettling?"

[He smiled, satisfied that this one would rather have unsafe truths than congeniality]

Genessia, the world you've found yourself in, is in the middle of an existential crisis, literally and perhaps metaphorically. You see, it has strict city limits, beyond which lies only unconsciousness. These are maintained by an invisible barrier, keeping the world safe. "Safe from what", you might ask.

In a word, evil spirits. The outside of the barrier is teeming with the devils, all of them ravenous and eager to devour one'sheart, or emotions, or some inner quality they lack and can never get back. It's been about a year since their last break-in.

I'm certain Genessia wants us to do something about them, though what that something is hasn't been made clear. It's vigilance for us, in the meantime.

The inside is also pretty troublesome. Perusing the paper reveals fantastic criminals every week for each city. On top of that, there's lesser villains on the bounty boards. No place is really very safe from trouble. If you're like me, you see this as an opportunity for heroism and daring-do. But if you're normal, it's...probably not very comforting. As I said, most of it can be avoided by seclusion and selection, thought why you would want to is beyond me.

[He folded his arms]

Nothing yet. The spirits are very coy, as if merely making an appearance is unspeakably draining. They showed up then, probably out of desperation. Perhaps they're gathering strength? As I said, all we can do for now is be vigilant; react and respond.

Speaking of purpose, I might as well tell you that too. I said the crisis may be metaphorical. I might justly have said philosophical; the spirits have a question they'd like answered, or defined: they'd like to know the definition of life. They suspect we've got some insight into it, haha. They may even expect us to populate the world ourselves. It seems their creative powers aren't quite up to snuff; they can seemingly only borrow, not make.

[Ted nodded slowly.]

"Mhm. Just the one meeting, but it was trying. Others have met them too, and shared their reports. They made...a very queer impression."

"...oh! Heh, excuse me. It's Ted, Mr. Savir. Ah, speaking of names! Could I get the meaning of yours? I've never heard it before."

"Oh dear; you've either my condolences or my applause, depending on if that leads to burden or glory. Suppose that'll be something to look forward to.

If you don't mind more visceral questions, what race or species are you? Something feline, I think."
