[Waking up in an unfamiliar bed was always the strangest experience. Did she end up on another night of social drinking past the point of no return? Was someone messing with her? Did Talon operatives kidnap her? Who knows, and at this point, she's not caring, though she can rule out the drinking part at least. No hangover.

The box was welcome at least. As was the pamphlet. Nice letting her know what she was getting into, even if she could scare believe it. She certainly didn't want to be come some spacial distortion affected person like Tracer was with time.

To anyone who was near the bay, they would easily see D.Va around, the girl standing and watching the hologram with her arms folded while in a rather fetching skin-tight jump-suit.]

[In contrast to the annoyance she feels, she's got a bright smile on her young face as the camera turns on, the communicator not that different from what she uses.]

Annyeong! D.Va here! So apparently somehow I'm transported to this new place? Jeez...talk about annoying. Thanks to whoever decided to leave a nice pile of money in the box with me, but could you have left me out of the creepy cave and coffin thing too? I'm not interested in dying young thanks.

Anyway, my name is Athrun Zala. I've been here for 15 months. If you'd like, I can try to answer any questions you've got that weren't covered by the information you've seen so far.

Well there aren't that many important questions to ask, mostly since I don't know the area nor the socio-political climate around here.

Well, then my best recommendation is to visit the Welcoming Center. They'll help you with whatever you need to settle in.

Welcoming Center huh? Sounds like a good place for me.

Think they'd have some way to get me some streaming gear? I hate having to be a newb all over again, but I got to start somewhere.

All the time! There's nothing wrong with streaming during combat ops.

Streaming my combat against taking down the omnic forces fighting my homeland is always popular.

[He's heard of StarCraft -- except when Artanis appears on television -- and he even played it when he was in his early teenage years. But that isn't his primary takeaway from this.]

[He's really too shocked to finish that thought. Athrun would never dream of doing something like that.]

Huh? Yeah. I stream my missions. Look, I have a huge fan base when I was a pro gamer, I'm not going to give them up just because I"m doing military work fighting Omnics. Besides, the brass don't seem to care so why should I?

[Really it probably helped rather than hurt, show support and solidarity in her victories and skirmishes, get new recruits eager to join the army. It was pretty much a win-win situation.]

But...but what if something goes awry on the mission? You wouldn't want to expose your fans to a...a...a disaster, would you?

[He's not trying to be critical or accusatory. He's speaking out of pure concern -- and in addition, his voice softens toward the end of his second question. Athrun has seen the horrors of war, and he would never want to share them with civilians.]

"That's a risk the military is willing to give. I'm not doing like, covert ops situations. I'm straight up in the force fighting against the invading Omnics directly."

[There' less worry over 'something going wrong' that wouldn't have been found out and be on the news anyway.]

Besides, the more I show off the military's campaigns the more they get eager new recruits to join their cause.

Well...I suppose it depends on the kinds of things they have you doing.

What exactly are these "Omnics" you speak of?

[That's the first piece to the puzzle.]

Well it's nothing sensitive. My part of the military is in fighting the Omnics.

[Oh right. Omnics are a 'her world' thing aren't they?]

Omnics, are basically rogue A.I. in machines. They rose up years ago and brought about a war, creating vast amounts of deadly machines and weapons to bear against us humans. We eventually reached peace, but some Omnics are still wild and attack, especially in my home country. We get Omnics from the seas rising to fight us so we have to fight back.

[Athrun is deeply impressed, and it's readily apparent on his face. He can't believe that humans in one world were able to create "deep" AI, let alone sophisticated enough to rebel against their creators.]

That's...unbelievable. Where I'm from, AI isn't even close to achieving sentience. Which may be for the best.

I've built some robots in the past, including programming their AI. But comparatively speaking, even what I've done would be a house fly compared to these Omnics.

Trust me. It's for the best you don't have that. I may not have been around for the initial war, but we're still dealing with the fallout of it all.

[Constant attacks upon her home's shores is not something she could say is a good thing.]

Well...I can't say stop building them, but be careful. Last thing we need is another omnic war in a place like this.

[Especially when she doesn't have her MEKA to defend herself with. A light pistol only goes so far.]

I haven't made anything like that in years. But hopefully we'll come up with something that prevents such a problem from occurring.

That being said, things are...relatively safe here. We've got a lot of people, myself included, invested in protecting this place and its inhabitants.

I'd err on the safer side and not. There's probably ways to go about it you or I wouldn't think of, so...let's try to avoid the mass murder of millions with crazy omnics.

...Relatively safe is not a good term to use when Relative could be anything from 'I'm used to being on the front lines of combat where I could die any minute.' to 'I just live day to day in an office cubicle eeking out existence.'.

...All right. Well, you know how the hologram said it's likely safer here than it is in our home worlds? For me, that's true an overwhelming majority of the time. Incidents happen on occasion, but they're not common. And the crime rate is fairly low, too.

At least, outside Everglade. I wouldn't recommend going there.

Well that's good then. I could do without having to worry about attacks from the sea every so often.

[Not that she could see they really had a sea. The Bay maybe, but it doesn't look that big.]

What's in Everglade?

To put it simply, monsters. The kind you hear about in fairy tales and horror stories. Werewolves, vampires, and so on. And recently all of the criminals in Everglade were set free, so it's become even more dangerous to be out alone.

[Oh great. A place like that.]

Why would that exist? Sounds like somewhere I shouldn't ever go to.

I have no idea. It just does.

But you've got the right idea. Don't set foot there unless you don't have a choice, and you can defend yourself.

Sounds good to me. I think Nova City'd be more my thing. It's apparently the higher tech area so I can get the stuff I'm used to there.

That's where I live, actually. It's closer to home than any other place here -- and in some places, the technology even eclipses what I have back home.

Is that right? Maybe I'll see you around sometime then.

Well if the tech there is that good, it shouldn't be too hard to get a hold of some of the stuff I'm use to.
