[She had arrived earlier and stumbled (and fumbled) her way to the common housing to find her room and privately freak out. First the war, now this strange new place and its technology. To be honest though, she's really spent most of her time trying her best to figure it all out so she wouldn't make quite such a fool of herself.

It's a little early into the evening, not quite night but still the sunset isn't entirely over with, when Hinata fumbles the video on just outside of the Genessia Commonspace. She does her best to smile.]

Hello, everyone. Um, I... I suppose it's the proper thing to do, introducing yourself when you first arrive here? So... So my name is Hinata, and I arrived earlier. I won't ask if...if there's a way to go home, since I figure we all would not be here if that was the case.

[Her smile fades, and she bites her lip.] Um, instead, since we are stuck here, how did... or does... everyone else become accustomed to this place? And, is there anything that wasn’t covered in the 'welcome' materials?

[Action]

[And, of course, she's out and about on the streets, map in hand. She's walking, in order to get a better idea of the city and what stores are where. And definitely looking for a place to eat real food. Also hoping some of the shops (when open) sell some clothes that aren't military fatigues and flak jackets.]

Hello Hinata, I'm Ted. Tell me, what does that name mean?

Oh, to answer your question, I think we grew accustomed the only way one can: by spending time. Familiarity shall grow with experience.

[She seemed like one who might grow overwhelmed with information overload, so some pruning might be necessary]

The opening welcome can only cover so much, I'm afraid. Anything you wanted to know in particular?

Heh, I wouldn't put it so faintly. Genessia City is very particular, as are they all. One grows accustomed, as with any strong and lively thing, by weathering its iconoclasm time and again. The other cities lie behind gates to the north, south, east, and west; where you are now is the hub for those four wild spokes.

As for something of importance...well, a fact about life, and a fact about death. I'll start with the darker latter.

Death has lost something of its sting, here. If worst comes to worst, one can come back, provided they tender an important skill or memory. Why this place accepts that currency, I do not know, but there you have it.

That currency can also buy what's called a "subarchway", or a seeming recreation of the home you remember. Under any circumstances, do not make the purchase. Such things are vile and hollow lies, and you may succumb to their evil. I wouldn't recommend going to anyone else's, either.

[And to finish with something pleasant...Ted smiled]
That's a lovely meaning. Heh, you needn't feel very sorry for not knowing my own; I sometimes wish I didn't. [Totally blanked on explaining that one, but it's pretty embarrassing.]

From what I have been told, there is a large amount of information that is left out of our initial introductions. But t he woman that created the introduction said that if you come to her company, you can obtain any and all information that they currently have on this place. [He could only imagine what there is to be completely learned about this place.]

I have started to become accustomed to the place by finding a job to keep my time occupied with something.

[His smile is growing the more she talks]

Sunny is right; I'm warming up to you already. Woman after my own heart; I agree with you wholeheartedly on both points.

Well, forgive me for depressing so soon. It's like morality: one gets the "do not's" out of the way first for safety's sake. There's really a great many things to love about this place. So much the sheer multiplicity is overwhelming. I could chat your ear off about all the wonderful things and people I've done and met, respectively. Heh, but I wager after a minute you'd want to experience it all for yourself.

I don't believe there is much information I can offer you. I haven't been here much longer than you. [He can tell her where to find a job, though.]

The employment building in Genessia City located at Thistle Street and 22nd Avenue.

[That is where he went to find his job.]

You will find a listing of jobs there offered by natives and people like ourselves that have been pulled inot this world.

It is unfortunate that all information on this place isn't available yet. [If it were, maybe they all would actually know how to leave this place and return to their home. But there wasn't much that could really be done. at this point]

It is very convenient. It has jobs from all of the cities listed. Something that your skill set is applicable to might be available.

Oh, goodness, where to begin? [He looks dreamy. Clearly Hinata had fried his brain, asking him a question so open he could take hours, if not days, filling it in. Something chivalrous, some tale full of daring-do...]

I know; how about a story! That ought to be more entertaining than blather. Need to work on that talent anyway. ahem

Once upon a time, this world was overrun with a strange batch of creatures called "Pok&eacutemon". An exotic menagerie of beasts whose names all involve wordplay. They're very intelligent and have a penchant for sporting violence. Everyone present at the time received one from out of the blue like a Christmas gift. From there, we were encouraged to roam the land and acquire more of them, using their fighting strength to subdue others.

I was no exception. From that point on, for a month, I wandered Everglade, the city to the west, in search of more of the lovely beasts. My collection of the brutes was growing steadily, then the newspaper gave wind of a haunted house. Apparently, a group of them had taken to terrorizing the grounds, and the citizenry were desperate for any bold enough to exorcise them from the premises.

A dear friend of mine joined me in that work. Pok&eacutemon at the ready, we tread through its creaky oaken door, anxious for whatever trials lie ahead.

Not ten feet into the foyer, we found we could step no more. The place was under the spell of a cunning group of illusionists. What looked like carpet was merely a mess of glue! As we tried to free ourselves, we heard the sound of something rusty and heavy swinging overhead. Alas! They intended to drop a chandelier on our heads! Thinking fast, we undid our shoes and hopped out just as the metal edifice was about to strike. It was then we knew that these pranksters were black humorists, all.

We kept our guard up after that. We searched the dining room, only to be assaulted by flying silverware. We were forced to retreat to the kitchen, whereupon I heard a most curious rustling coming from the fridge. Foolishly, I decided to take a peek, wondering if some poor soul wasn't the victim of their cruel jokes. Little did I know that it was all a ruse, and I would be that victim! The refrigerator gobbled me up, leaving me at the mercy of the spooks. Then they performed their vilest deed yet: possession. I was disgorged from the machine, mind and spirit overrun by one of the ghosts. To my eternal shame, I then attacked my friend, pitting my beast against hers. Luckily, she was victorious, and set me free from its wicked control.

And yet, through that vile act, the fiends had sown the seeds of their own demise. These specters were not so supernatural as one might assume; as I said, Pok&eacutemon are beasts, not spirits. These beasts in particular were made of gas, and so we donned gas masks to protect ourselves, taking that attack off the table. Just then, we heard the tinkling of a music box coming from far above. Seeing no other leads, we made our ascent.

Thank goodness we had those masks, for it was the dustiest attic you've ever seen. We searched for the cause of the noise, only to have found ourselves in the midst of another joke. Blood-red paint appeared on the walls, promising our doom. At that moment, we felt the entire house begin to shake; the brutes wanted to collapse the whole manor, so badly we irritated! My partner wouldn't have any of it. Raising her voice to maternal command, she ordered the ghosts to drop the act. To my surprise, one did! Seems these creatures were not so monolithic as we assumed. This one had broken apart from the gang, and proceeded to tattle on them. They didn't take kindly to it, blowing it away with an electric fan as punishment for its defection.

There and then, we found how to beat them. It was time to go on the offensive. We retrieved some vacuums, and resolved to take the wind out of that haunt once and for all. With animals and vacuums, we dusted that manor from all its pests. As I sucked up the last of the ghosts, a "thud" was heard. To my surprise, a wriggling stump got caught in the crossfire, plugging up my hose. I plucked him out, and found that he was no enemy at all, but a friend. He's grown up since then, would you like to see?"

[Ted assumes the affirmative, and pulls out Trevenant! Despite his spooky visage, he's the happiest tree in the world, waving and nattering at Hinata over the videophone.]

But that's only half the story. Do you wish to hear the rest?

I can't say for sure. I don't know how long is the longest time that someone has been here. [It is very likely they could be stuck here forever for all they know.]

What skills do you have? Both civilian and otherwise.

"Never would I mind a question of names: you're the first woman I met who wasn't unnerved at him, as a matter of fact. As you can hear by his speech, his name is "Trevenant"; that's how they communicate, by the way, saying their names in pitches and intonations too subtle to make out by any but themselves. Some take to name them other things, but I'm rather taken with what nature bestowed.

[So she's been on missions, has she? Queer girl. Oh well, on with the sequel.]

Right then! Well, I'd supposed that the dust up at the manor would be the last of it. Not so! A week or two later, I was approached by two journalists who challenged any they could find to answer a few questions about ghost Pok&eacutemon. They all have 'types', you see, characteristic of some dominant feature common to a group. Ghosts, as you may have already surmised, are characterized by cunning, shadows, and ether. This sap here is one such.

Anyway, my intimate experience more than prepared me to answer their riddles like I was playing with a Sphinx. Lucky me there were rewards to reap. The last of these was a toy, oddly enough. I wasn't picky, for the game amused even without spoils. Imagine my surprise, then to see that toy lifting itself out of its box, doll-like features morphing and melding into a very familiar face. By the time it had taken its true visage, the journalists fled, quite out of their wits. I recognized it at once: a ghost, just like the ones we met not days ago!

But I was ready to fight fire with fire this time. [He slapped Trevenant on the trunk] I'd see how this specter liked a taste of its own medicine. And that's exactly what it got, though not the way I expected. They stared each other down like two knights in a fateful duel, and then...the ghost laughed. I could hardly believe it. Here I was, blood primed for honorable combat, only to have the climax turn into some bestial punchline! A battle won without a single blow. That wasn't the end of my adventures, but it was by far the most amusing episode. Finally, here's the one whom I swear was the start and the end of all that trouble."

[Here's Gengar, the purple grinning glob ghost]

"He's grown up too, though not as much as I'd like. I wonder if one ever can take all the naughtiness out of the scamps. Still, he's been as loyal and faithful a companion as one could ask for."

A ninja? You don't look like how they are depicted in traditional media. [But he's never met a real one, and it is possible that people are just getting what they looked and dressed like wrong.]

I believe you will find use for both of your skillsets. Maid, waitress among other domestic type jobs are listed there. I even saw a business in Fayren that offered positions for tracking creatures or retrieving herbs and other greenery from a forest that is located near the city.

[Ted smiles too, letting a red beam reclaim each of them back to their balls. Of course he adored them too, despite their faults.] Ah, so you're familiar with the bizarre. In that case, you've an advantage. I'm sure you'll grow accustomed in no time.

Heh, it just occurred me that the tale might not have granted your request. Suppose all I mean to say is that it's a dangerous world, full of adventures and fairytale romance. And friends come from one knows not where; even from the ranks of one's enemies, if you're lucky enough. It's...

[A pause. He'd almost forgotten the most painful part of Genessia]
Sorry, there's one thing I forgot to tell you. The world...doesn't let you keep all that you'd like. You'll have to take it very lightly. The friend that was with me a year ago is gone now; spirited away. The pokémon I have now are but a fraction of the ones I had at the time; most had to leave to parts and for reasons unknown.

If you've any intention of an active life here, I'm afraid you'll have to make peace with that terrible truth.

Yes. Such as in movies and films and the like. I have taken on the role of playing one in a TV series before. [He's not calling her a liar or doubting her skills. Just her appearance doesn't say "ninja". In some ways that probably isn't a terrible thing.] Was there a particular enemy that you all were organized into a military force to fight? Or have you always been a force like that?

It seems to fit your skillset, yes. All of the cities seem to have unique traits about them. Nova City, for instance, seems to be highly technologically advanced with flying vehicles and sentient machines.

In my world, technology hadn't advanced nearly far enough for films and television when ninjas were prevalent in the world. Your world must different greatly from my own. [Not a surprise, really.]

I see. [That made sense to him. They were probably stronger together than they were apart.]

Yes. Many many years more advanced. [It's where he lived for now.] Fayren has the least amount of technology among them all. What they lack in technology, they make up for in magic.
