Hello everyone. As you already are well aware crime has increased in Everglade due to the Mayor... again. I am trying my best to deal with the current situation as is my Deputy and a group of natives. I do apologize for me taking too long to say anything about it as well.

[He sighed slightly. First it was the heatwave and now it was this. He felt like he could never catch a damn break.]

This has made me wonder if I should perhaps consider hiring another Deputy while this is going on. [He pouted slightly.]

If anyone is planning on going into Everglade, please stay vigilant just in case and just be careful. [He sighed as he turned his chair.]

And to think this all started from one dumb rule.

I believe he was before, thus we had that time time rule. But it seems somethings changed and now criminals are running lose.

I mean I suspected Dracula had influenced the mayor. I was trapped by one of his followers at the time so that's what I was going on.

[Well. This situation is escalating quickly, isn't it? It's worrisome, and Simon doesn't even live in Everglade. He can't stop himself from responding, his voice a bit of a drawl and his expression rather deadpan.]

Pray tell. How, exactly, are you and your deputy attempting to 'deal' with this particular situation?

Well for one, we have to spend nearly 24 hours a day having to catch them again since... they simply continue to do the crime they got imprisoned for.

[And since numbers are really high, he knew it would take a while.]

Numbers of cases increased by around 100 times and we can only handle so many between us. I give out cases to a group I put together also to lighten the load, but then you still get like 100 + crimes being done that aren't being handled. It's quite crazy.

[Good lord. If there's any situation worthy of the title Dark Age of the Law, this would be it.]

Well, this is a fine mess if I ever did hear of one. What of the court proceedings? How long will it take for Lady Justice to pass official verdict upon these vile miscreants?

That I don't know, I only do my job of protecting people. The justice system here is not something I know exactly. Except it is a thing people do go through sooner or later.

[Meanwhile, Simon lives and breathes the justice system. He'll look into this matter himself if he can.]

You should be aware that if the justice system fails for whatever reason, your own job will become that much more difficult. It is meant to keep the criminals you catch off the streets- that is, provided certain incompetent politicians don't claim laws to be 'false'. The more evidence to their wrongdoings you provide, the more grounds to the verdict.

I assume this is what happened currently. All crimes committed during the previous law were thrown out of the window. I would need to probably learn a bit more so I can have a better understanding.

I find it astounding that your mayor is allowed to wield this sort of power in the first place. Where I hail from, every mayor operates in tandem with a city council. They would need approval from the majority of the council before any law could be subjected to a veto. Even if there were council agreement before, the results speak for themselves now. With this increase in crime, any sane council member would change their vote and undo the veto.

[Simon pauses for a moment, idly chewing at a feather in the corner of his mouth.]

It is unfortunate that my own experience with the law means very little here. Different world, different rules.

There is no city council, only the mayor who makes most of the choices unless they fall under my job. In this case, I feel like this should have gone through me, but it wasn't since crimes and protection were things that are my job.

But never the less, I feel as though I should fix the problem now and try and think of maybe putting a council in place. As for different world and rules. true, but also all cities have different ways to deal with the law. You should see the others, it's interesting.

Hmph... I've no doubt that I will, in time. [Getting settled is troublesome, especially when you're still easing yourself back into society after seven years of death row. Simon's eager to get back to work though, so he needs to look into all the laws and how to aid them soon enough.]

Regardless, I hope your hunt will be a fortuitous one. These criminals cannot be left to their own devices for too long.

The night time rule that started this whole thing. Basically before all this. If you were human basically you couldn't get away with anything, it was an automatic jail sentence should you do it.

It also meant everyone else was allowed to outright murder humans and get away with it.

Information wise... The mayor was... or is until we probably have to remove him from his post for this. He;s someone who was elected by the natives here to run Everglade. Basically he makes the rules for the city, unlike my job which is for the protection of people of this city.

[He soon points to himself.] I'm Fai Flourite. I'm City Guardian, a elected official whose job is to protect the city as best as I possibly can. I'm actually currently in my second term after being voted again.

I don't know. It's not just that though, that law has then been changed and people have to released and then continue to do the crime they did before.

It just makes me think the mayor himself is just really easily manipulated, which for running the city is not a good thing at all for anyone.

Not necessarily. After all people might have abilities that can control a persons mind. I think I would believe something like that happened.
