[His collar must be gold at present.

That is the first thought running through his mind when Gaara awakens. He hears grumbling from Shukaku, and answers back somewhat absently. Once he regains his mental bearings, he realizes the darkness surrounding him. Gaara extends one arm forward to push at the unknown restriction, not expecting his sand powers to work in this state.

Outside of the cocoon, he inspects the room with blatant curiosity. A new F3 location, he instantly assumes. He needs to check in with Sai, his siblings, and his friends, and then figure out what this week’s challenge will entail.

However… the communication device doesn’t seem to be in his possession at the moment. Frowning, Gaara steps out of the room to begin his exploration. His senses are on high alert, in anticipation of monster attacks.]

[ Ishtar brushed off some of the leftovers of the cocoon as she woke up and pushed herself out of it. Sidia rested at hers side unhappily and no one else she knew was here. She tugged at her hair and furrowed her brows. Where was here? Did the Facility vanish again? It’s not another one of those 3rd Facilities right? It can’t be. She just fought with everyone to get rid of them.

What the hell is going on?! ]

[As Gaara is walking down the hallway, he keeps searching for the device, as well as any signs of the other inhabitants. His movement is swift, and after a few dozen strides, he begins calling out in an even, but audible tone.]

Sai. Temari. Kankuro. Ishtar.

...Gaara?

[ Ishtar raised a brow catching sight of red hair that stood out in the room of cocoons. ]

H-Hey….what the hell. GAARA!

[ Ishtar started pacing quickly towards Gaara, and trying to make sure she wasn't delusional when her eyes darted towards Gaara and realized it was Gaara but she might be seeing things. The Facility did that to people! ]

[His head immediately turns toward the source, his breath briefly catching in relief. So they had simply been separated. He will find the others, after ensuring Ishtar’s safety.]

Ishtar.

[Gaara heads toward the princess, his expression soft with concern. She is armed, fortunately.]

Have you been able to locate your communication device?

N-no but this-- it shouldn't be happening, and you--you’re not suppose to be-- GAARA.

[ Ishtar throws her arms around him the minute she realized he was the real thing without even giving him a warning but she did it discreetly so that the shield didn't smack her in the face when she wanted to hug Gaara. ]

…?

[His eyes widen with surprise at the ferocity of her reaction, but because this is Ishtar, he allows her to hold him. He doesn't understand why she seems so worried and upset, when they are already accustomed to this routine. It takes a moment for the Suna ninja to recover, before he slowly lifts his arms, and wraps them around her slender frame.]

Are you all right…?

[ She squeezed him tightly against her form. It was Gaaa, in the flesh and bone. He wasn’t fake and he was still alive. She kept squeezing him, fighting back tears that were welling up in her eyes. It was so saddening when she lost a lot of her friends. To see them again, she was so happy. There were no words to describe how happy she was. ]

[Gaara had used that term for a specific reason. The Doctors saw them as nothing but mere test subjects. They delighted in altering their bodies and minds to suit their perverse research.]

That is fortunate. [His voice sounds somewhat dry while relaying that, and then he falls quiet to listen intently.]

Monsters. [Gaara repeats that word, all-too-familiar on both his tongue and ears.] So you had to eliminate them, in order to survive. Correct?

[That is surprising to hear, after each of the F3 locations he has experienced.] Are there no monsters present in this world?

Well...yeah. [Except he couldn't. Even if he wanted to.] The days were really long. It took a whole month in my standard time for one full day to pass. The night lasted two weeks.

[So you not only needed to be strong, but you had to have endurance. On top of that, crazy successful tactics, otherwise you'd waste all of your energy at night.]

I haven't seen any yet.

[He quirks a brow, at hearing that.] Rather unusual. [To say the least. How could life continue to thrive, amidst so much darkness?

And Gaara, being delightfully blunt as usual, doesn't hesitate to express his observation.] You don't appear to be malnourished.

[No monsters... that would be beneficial for civilians, but not necessarily shinobi. Gaara knows he will need a physical outlet, at one point. Particularly during the night of a full moon.]

It would be wise, not to lower your guard.

[Well not on the surface. Just before coming here, he was sick. To the point where he dozed in and out of consciousness. He only spent two months there, but really he could only remember one of them. It was probably from over stressing the situation, but despite feeling fine. Ryuuji wasn't going to push it just in case.]

Ahh-I...can cook

[Then came the second comment.]

L-lower my guard? Do you think there are monsters?

[Oh god he was screwed if there were!]

That is a useful ability to have. You can procure various ingredients, then? [Gaara would be so relieved, if that is the case. He'd very much like to forget the horrible tasteless food bars that the facility provided. Fresh food had been a rare luxury.

His expression doesn’t change.] I have yet to investigate the parameters of this world. It is a possibility. If not monsters, there are always malicious humans. [Maybe shinobi as well, if any of the Akatsuki members suddenly show up.]

You must be a civilian. [Judging by his reaction.] Do you possess any combat knowledge or capabilities?

[It was nice to know someone thought it was useful. In the broad spectrum of talents, it was all he was really good at.]

Most of them are Japanese styled dishes, but I can learn to other things with the right reference material.

[The other didn't look as nourished as he should so Ryuuji assumed the place he was before wasn't so generous with food. Maybe he should make him some lunch?]

Malicious...humans.

[Yeah. He knew they could be dangerous too.]

Combat?

[Was this guy in the military?]

I don't know how to fight. [or defend.]

[Not everyone had learned that ability. Purchasing store-bought or restaurant-made food was far more common practice.]

Japanese...? [Gaara pauses for a moment, trying to recall where he had heard that word. Ah, yes, it was something he learned at the facility. America and Japan were countries frequently discussed by other residents.] Is Japan your country of origin?

Yes, combat. [Somehow, Gaara isn't entirely surprised to hear his response.] I see. Then in the event of danger, you will require protection.

Yeah...are you from some place else?

[Because Gaara has him curious now.]

That's! That's not necessary--it's okay [pause]

I'll be okay, really!

Yes. My village is Suna, located in the Land of Wind.

[Gaara just quirks a brow at him. He is too pragmatic to consider why Ryuuji would be reacting this way.]

During times of peace, perhaps. I am simply referring to a hypothetical situation.

Unless your intention is to behave foolishly, and seek an early death.

[Shinobi are so sensitive and understanding.]

[Okay yeah. Ryuuji might not have that much knowledge in geography, but he definitely that place wasn't on the map.]

[It felt like his chest just caved in.]

Do you think it's permanent here?

[It kind of lost it's meaning if you were just going to be brought back. Ryuuji wasn't out to dig his own grave. He didn't enjoy the pain of dying and he wasn't looking to experience it again, but]

Or do you think we're just brought back to do it all over again?

[Now it got really serious.]

Back at home, people die. They stay dead.

[A fake laugh.]

[Gaara already knows, from experience, that their worlds are completely different. He's never physically been to America or Japan, and vice versa.]

That is a possibility. [He can't know for sure until he either kills someone, witnesses another person's death, or dies himself. The latter, he doesn't intend to let happen, anytime soon.] Have you asked the other residents? Ones that have already been living here for an extended period of time.

[Gaara nods in agreement.] That rule applies to our world as well. Revival isn't... common. However, at the facility, death was not a permanent state.

Not really...

[He didn't really reach out to people. Ryuuji doesn't typically approach people unless they approach him first.]

[Well, guess they're going to have to find out the hard way, then. Time to die, Ryuuji.]

I see. The answer will eventually be realized, through one method or another.

[What kind of flowers would you like on your grave? 8D]

...We must leave this location. [Gaara is looking around the cavern, and wondering what lies beyond the perimeters.

But before they take off...] What is your name?

[He should believe him.]

[Gaara nods in acknowledgement.] My name is Gaara.

[Thank goodness he's had exposure to people with cultural differences. He'd rather not make any assumptions when it comes to names and preferences.] How do you wish to be addressed?

Takasu is fine.

[With or without honorifics. He knew not everyone was from Japan.]

Very well.

[No honorifics for you, good sir. Gaara isn't exactly the polite type.]

We can speak at a later time... at your convenience. For now, we intend to become more familiar with this world.

[Oh..he was probably bothering him.]
