[It had been a rough couple weeks since Rose had arrived in Genessia, but she had taken time to let her worries of home simmer, collecting information as best she could without really intruding on anyone's lives here. However, what she saw was... rather fascinating. Never before had she seen a group of such disparate people, aliens, and other beings living in such harmony before. For once, she didn't feel like such an outsider, and she wanted to have some greater measure of interaction than she had taken in her own world. As such, she had found a nice untouched grassy area near The Bay and had worked her magic to grow some rather large watermelons. It was still summer and summer just didn't seem like summer without watermelons.]

Hello, some of you already know me, but my name is Rose Quartz. I just wanted to say thank you to those that helped put my worries to rest when I found myself here, and while they haven't vanished, they are much more manageable. As a way of saying thank you, I've grown some watermelons.

In my world, it's something of a tradition to share watermelons among friends and family during the summer, and I wanted to extend an invitation to anyone who wished to do so here.

[She turned the camera around to show the slightly above average size watermelons, growing amid a patch of what seem to be roses with small crystalline shapes at their centers.]

I'm near the area where I woke up, and anyone that wants a watermelon is more than welcome to come get one.

You can grow watermelons? How long does it take?

[She's naturally curious.]

[Rose shrugs slightly.]

These took a little over six hours to fully mature. I started on them last night.

Only six hours? How do you grow them?

[That sounds amazing.]

Ted's on free stuff like white on rice, making sure he goes by The Bay on his usual route.

"Hello Ms. Quartz! Sorry I couldn't be among the greeters, though I'm glad to see you were well taken care of regardless. Thank you for providing these. Though I'm curious; I've never seen fruit grown amid this sort of arrangement before. What's it all about?"

Every gem has unique powers and abilities. I have an affinity for plants.

[She waves her hand over the shot of the flowers and watermelons, as one of the flowers grows and twists, branches, and eventually turns into a large, full and blooming rose bush.]

[She grins a bit.]

The flowers are just for show. I've gained something of a flair for art over the centuries, and flowers are one of my favorite things to work with. Finding beauty in nature, and helping it aspire to even greater heights... it's one of my favorite pastimes.

He chuckled a bit. "Ah, a decorator. You should speak with Terra; she enjoys the same sort of business. Speaking of business, anything I can do to assist yours? This world can be troubling to some, though you seem to be adjusting all right, especially with all that...stuff." [He wasn't sure how to word exclusive existence.]

Ah, watermelons?

[The magenta troublemaker peers into the screen looking a tad curious about those average looking melons. He glances over at the pink lady again before glancing back at the melons. He's really thinking about getting one but he doesn't want to steal them.

Katze actually wants to buy them.]

Um, they're free, right? [The alien questions innocently while plotting on getting several for Bracken.] You said they're something of a tradition. Is it only meant for family and friends?

How about...boyfriends?

[ Patchouli missed the broadcast, but by chance she happened to be in Nova City and happened to be passing by when her passive scrying spell picked up a major source of magical energy of some kind.

It not only piques her curiosity... but it makes her cautious at first.

Let's just say she wasn't expecting it to be an eight foot tall woman to be the source. ]

...Curious.

[She nods.]

They're free. I don't really have a need for money. And you can share them with whoever you like. The only important thing being that you care about them.

[Rose will be blissfully tending to her makeshift garden, shaping a rose bush here, starting another watermelon there, for a long moment before she notices Patchouli. She will turn and great her with the same warm smile as everyone gets.]

Can I help you? Are you here for the watermelons miss?

[Rose nods, one hand drifting to the gem on her stomach now very visible as her t-shirt is draped over a nearby tree branch leaving just her majestic white dress.]

The world is a vast and wondrous thing. I may have my own worries, but being among people and just seeing everything up close is helping.

That's amazing. I know someone who can make things grow too though he isn't a gem. He's a druid.

[Also her roommate.]

[ At just five feet tall, Rose towers over Patchouli, who, rather than keep looking up, floats up to her eye level. ]

I'm afraid not. Rather, I have an interest in you, milady. [ She looked like some sort of noble, so... ] I've not seen a being quite like yourself before.

R-Really?!

[He gasps dramatically! Katze didn't expect to find the perfect gift here at some makeshift farmer's market sale. He's almost bouncing on his heels now.]

Geez, you're friggin' great! Like the best of the best! I'm serious!

[The alien is squealing!]

But...wait. How do you eat one of these? Do you peel them open like a banana or do you smash them? I kinda don't wanna smash it!

It's a gift.

[He'll take that as a 'no'. He wishes he could help out more, but then again, whatever's going on probably requires a more feminine touch. He plucks the first melon he sees.]

Heh, well I suppose I've helped, then. How wonderfully easy. Thanks again for the fruit.

[Have a curious priest, wearing his Catholic work robes approach her curiously.]

Ah, hello? I heard you're giving out watermelons on the network. May I have two? One for me and one for a friend?

[That gets a big grin out of Rose.]

Oh? I've never met a human or anyone that wasn't a gem that could use magic. I'd very much like to meet him!

[She just gives a satisfied grin.]

Not a problem. Come back if you want another!

[She giggles a bit.]

Oh, I'm far from the best, but thank you for the compliment. As for how to eat one...

[She sets the camera down for a moment as she plucks one of the melons. After drawing a line across it with a finger, it falls into halves and she picks the camera back up, focusing on the melon's innards.]

Just cut it open - usually into quarters since that's easier to hold - and eat! Just be mindful of the seeds.

[In five thousand years, Rose has never met a magic-using human. Or any non-gem magic user for that matter. As Patchy floats up to meet her gaze, Rose's eyes go from normal to... well, rather starry.]

And I've never met anyone that wasn't a gem that could use magic like that.

[Rose saw the priest coming, and while she didn't know much about human religion, she knew enough to recognize the trappings of the clergy, and bowed her head respectively as he approached.]

Absolutely. I can grow more than enough to meet everyone's needs, so take as many as you like.

[Airy suddenly looks nervous.]

It's my roommate, his name is Nathan. He might be around here somewhere. [She hopes its okay that she's saying this.] I've meet a few people who can use magic who are human.

[Airy's own magic is to weird to explain.]

This place will be full of surprises, then.

[ That reaction got a bit of a smile from the quiet mage. ]

I am Patchouli Knowledge, by the way.

That's fascinating! I always knew humans had potential, but I never imagined they would have that much potential.
