[Action/OPEN!]
[Another day in the life of a girl stranded in some weird interdimensional city. She woke up, ate breakfast, showered and dressed warmly, then sat down with last week's paper to see which places in Genessia were worth visiting. All seemed fairly cold, but the weather was only bad in Attleton it seemed. Nova City was expected to be sunny, and so far, the weather forecasts were never wrong...even if the boy delivering the papers was an annoying miscreant.]
[So there she is, enjoying the sun and markedly warmer weather in the technologically advanced portion of Genessia known as Nova City. Her purse is slung onto her shoulder, her puffy coat unzipped as she strolls past shop windows and holographic advertisements. She stops at a vending machine to get something to drink, and glancing at her wallet, a sour look crosses her face. She's definitely running low on funds, and that means she'll have to get a job soon.]
Brother...
[Raye sighs heavily, and feeds the machine a credit just the same for a can of Neptune Nectar. If she opened up an Archway to the Cherry Hill Temple, she could probably work as a shrine maiden, given how that was what she'd been raised to do. It wouldn't make much money, but she'd have a place to live and food to eat. The only problem was deciding on a cost for such a place, and she couldn't justify it no matter how she tried. There was no memory she would have surrendered, no ability, no piece of herself. This was where she lived now, and she's stuck with it. Maybe she could do some moonlighting as Sailor Mars, but she prefers not to make the scene in her secret identity unless it's absolutely necessary. It's a sacred responsibility, not a means of making a living!]
[Sipping from her can of juice, Raye pauses in front of a holographic billboard advertising the holosuites. That might be kind of fun... She could invite Harry and they'd--!]
[Oh. Wait. Harry didn't exactly mesh with this city all that well, given how his very wizardly presence would short out almost any device of a higher technological level than an electric toaster.]
*sigh*

[Action]
... Genessia was not rubbing off on him well.
He had just picked up some groceries though - a lot of macaroni and cheese mostly, and some other essentials (mostly so he could make said macaroni and cheese), which was a definite improvement over the PB&J sandwiches he'd been wating for a while. That's when he spotted a familiar girl - he almost didn't recognize her without her pyjamas on.]
... Oh! You're...! Uh... Raye! Right? [He stepped over to her, shopping bag in hand.] Yeah, you're the cute girl from the video phone on my first day. Remember me?
[Action]
Oh, yeah! That's me.
[She smiles, resisting the urge to rub the back of her head. Play it cool, Raye. He might be kind of a doof, but he IS cute, and some of that doofiness reminds her a little of the scruffy guy Chad who worked at her grandpa's temple.]
Jaune Arc. Sure I remember. Sorry I was a little crabby. Things were kind of crazy that day.
[She doesn't often apologize, but she knows she was probably a little mean. He was new and freaking out, she should have been more patient. She glances at his shopping bag.]
Doing a little shopping?
Re: [Action]
[When she mentions his shopping, he lifts the bag a little bit.] Yup, just some essentials for my bachelor pad. You know, maybe sometime you should drop by the Palace D'Arc for a cozy little evening. [Okay, now he was laying it on a little thick.] But really, it's nice to see you in person! I mean, it's not THAT different, but it's nice to know we're not just at the other end of a screen all the time. [OOC: Whoa, did that just feel meta right there?]
[Action]
Uh...yeah, maybe sometime! I could give you some decorating tips.
[It's too soon to consider on a romantic basis, but she doesn't want to shut him down completely. Besides, she's impressed with just how understanding he is about her crankiness. Jaune is a rare bird indeed.]
Soooo what's with the armor? Are you a knight or something?
[He was wearing it when he showed up...though admittedly, he'd be the first knight she's seen who wears blue jeans.]
Re: [Action]
[Moving on to his armor, he looks down at himself as if he forgot he was wearing it.] Oh! This! Hahaha... oh, yeah, no... Let's see, where to start... [He kind of shifted his gaze aside and rubbed a finger under his lose in pondering.] I came from a place called Beacon Academy, and there we have people from all over the place training to be Hunters and Huntresses - you know, Monster Hunters? Yeah, I'm enrolled in that school.
[He turns his body so his hip faced her, his sword sheath on display.] S'why I have this here. It's kind of a hand-me-down from my Dad... and his Dad.
[Action]
[That sounds shockingly familiar to the kind of work she does as Sailor Mars. Pity she can't make reference to that stuff for the sake of her secret identity, or they might have something in common to talk about.]
I see. Swords and shields aren't too common anymore where I come from.
[She leans forward a little, bending at the knees to get a better look. The fact that he calls it a 'hand-me-down' doesn't escape her, and Raye frowns slightly.]
Why would you call it that? It's a family heirloom. That deserves some respect, don't you think?
[Being extremely traditional herself, Raye likes things with a history.]
Re: [Action]
[The last time anyone questioned what he called it, he just kinda let it slide, but Raye's really into the whole thing - she pushed on it harder than Ruby even did.]
Oh no, it's totally cool! That's why I took it with me to Beacon. My Grandfather used it in a war, and... stuff. But it's REALLY old-fashioned. Honestly? I'm not rocking a very big advantage over the other students by using it.
[Action]
[So she can't exactly offer training. Not unless he wants to know some karate on top of swordplay, but that might just mess him up.]
Anyway, you won't be fighting other students once you graduate, right? As long as you can beat the real threats, you should be fine.
Re: [Action]
[He gave a nod to her.] But fighting each other isn't what being a Hunter is all about. It's about being a hero. Protecting people from the monsters that live where I come from. But uh... where do YOU come from? And what do you do? Or did do, I guess.
[Action]
Me? Oh, I'm from a city called Tokyo.
[And also from the planet Mars.]
School is pretty regular for us. I went to an academy for girls. We had classes for math, writing, history, English, gym...definitely nothing involving monsters. I just took up archery because I'm kind of a history nut.
[She's actually not too accustomed to having other people ask her questions about herself. It's kind of nice.]
As for what I do, well...I work as a shrine maiden at my grandpa's temple. Sometimes I sold good luck charms and told people's fortunes, but for the most part we just had a lot of your usual chores to take care of.
[Raye glances away, then back at Jaune.]
You want to go for a walk?
Re: [Action]
It's too bad there's no one like you at Beacon, but... With your dark hair, you're kinda like a more talkative Blake. And a Shrine Maiden, huh? There's shrines where I come from, so I think I know exactly what you mean. But really? You told people's fortunes?
[When asked to go for a walk, he smiled and nodded, hurrying to step next to her.] Yeah, sure!
But fortune telling... isn't that stuff just a buncha mumbo jumbo? People can't really tell the future.
[Action]
[How quickly she goes from flattered to huffy, tossing her head. She'd meant to ask about the shrines, but now she's got to rant about fortune telling.]
I mean, yeah there are a lot of charlatans, but if you're spiritually in tune, the spirits can give you a lot of guidance!
[Her frown fades slightly, and her brow inclines as her gaze drops just a little.]
But I don't have access to the Sacred Flame in this place. So I don't have the same kind of vision that I used to back home.
Re: [Action]
W-Well I mean... I've just never met anyone who could ACTUALLY do it! That's all I meant!
[She seemed to calm down, so he did too.] The Sacred Flame...? Did that have anything to do with your Shrine, or... what? I've never heard of a fortune teller using fire.
[Action]
Yeah. My grandpa taught me how to do it when I was little. I've been practicing ever since.
[At least he backed off when he saw she was upset. Her flare up is brief as a result. This is one of the few things she did as Raye and not just Sailor Mars, so she's okay talking about it.]
Most of my fortune reading uses the I Ching, though. I wouldn't use the Sacred Flame for anything trivial.
[She realizes she's probably talking about herself TOO much, so she smiles and nudges his arm with her elbow.]
Hey, if you want, I could read your fortune sometime.
Re: [Action]
[He could barely follow Ruby when she was talking about weapons - talking about what sounded like some ancient secret from wherever it is Ren comes from was bound to go over his head. When she nudged him, he actually stumbled aside somewhat, but he rights himself quickly.]
Wait, I thought you just said you couldn't do it? Well... [He paused in thought, but shook his head. He was worried about his future - about whether or not he'd fail miserably at the one thing he wanted to do. If she told him that was coming, well...]
N-No, that's alright. I bet my future's really boring. I... really don't need to know what it is. Isn't it better if the future's a surprise?
[Action]
[His reaction to her offer is surprising. She looks at him with puzzled concern.]
Well, all right, if you say so.
[That's actually the first time someone's turned her down. Almost everyone she knows is curious about their future. Why did he get so nervous about it?]
So...what's it like where you're from? Besides the monsters and all.
Re: [Action]
As for where I'm from, it's pretty... normal? I dunno what to tell you. It seems like we're only different because we have Monsters and people who grow up learning how to fight them. Let's see...
[He continued walking, looking towards the ground.] Ah, jeez, remembering back to my classes is HARD. Uh... Well... We live on Remnant - that's what our world's called. A long time ago it was nothin' but Darkness and humans rose up, and learned how to use Dust - that's this weird kinda elemental dust we have - to battle the creatures of the darkness and set up a civilization.
[He was REALLY racking his brain on this one, so he continued thinking, pressing a finger to his temple as he closed his eyes.] It's supposed to be a really dangerous place outside the cities, so we have Hunters and Huntresses who... well, hunt the monsters.
And we have people with animal traits. They're called Faunus. There's a girl in my class who has bunny ears. Humans don't get along with them all the time, but I sure don't see the big deal.
[He kept on walking, eyes closed as he rubbed his chin.} Hmmm... Hmmmm...! Hmm-Muh?! [And down he went! Not looking where he was going, he tripped and fell. Though there wasn't anything to trip on. He must have tripped on his own foot! Welp, down he went anyway, groceries and knick-knacks he was buying scattering all over the ground.]
THAT FACE
Bunny ears sound like they'd be really cute.
[Raye doesn't understand the big deal either, but then again, she knows nothing of the Faunus history. She starts to say something more, but Jaune is no longer there. Instead he is eating the ground.]
Tch, what a nimbus...
[Despite her grumbling, Raye's kneeling next to him to make sure he's all right. He really is a lot like Chad. Did the universe seriously need more than one? She reaches out to pick up one of his things to keep it from rolling away too far.]
Did you hurt yourself?
Re: THAT FACE
[Seeing his stuff all over the ground, he quickly got up to collect them. He has the usual slacker material - comic books, video games, things that just rot your brain and encourage someone to be lazy. Which is pretty much Jaune in a nutshell, and most likely not the lifestyle Raye would expect her 'knight' to have.]
no subject
[It isn't until after she's picked up the fifth laziness-inducing item that she starts to frown and get bossy.]
You're not going to focus only on this stuff and slack off on your training, are you?
no subject
[He stands up and brushes himself off, gathering the last of his things into his bag.] I dunno HOW I'm gonna train around here. I guess... I'll just have to ask Ruby for help, or... Yang, or Blake.
no subject
[She hands him his things as she rises as well.]
You could also probably make use of these holosuites. I just saw an ad for them.
[She juts her thumb back at the holographic billboard.]
And I'd offer to help, but I'm not so sure karate and sword fighting are compatible styles for sparring.
no subject
[He laughed a little, but smiled.] But that means you know martial arts? And I thought you said you weren't a fighter! That's cool! I've never seen anyone fight just using their hands. We have so many weapons in Vale... SO many.
You think these holo-thingies would help? Hm...
no subject
[But as Sailor Mars she can be pretty fierce. And her hand to hand skills pale in comparison to what Lita can do.]
We can try a holosuite if you want. But if you'd rather practice without an audience, I totally understand that too.
[She'll have to tell Harry that Jaune isn't as bad as his first impression made him out to be.]
