Briefing 5 | [Action in Genessia City]
[A. Garden Park]
[It's not terribly often that Blaze wanders out of Attleton for leisure anymore. He takes his position as Guardian very seriously, but that means that his mind is telling him that he has to be stationed there at all times. The last thing he wants is to be out of town if something were to happen, and he didn't want to leave Dante with all the work either. If anything, Dante deserved the free time more than Blaze did, seeing that he was only the Deputy... but this mentality also meant that Blaze overworked himself sometimes. Sometimes he only went home to his apartment to tend to his cat before returning to the office.
Today, though, he decided he wanted to squeeze in a little extra time for something else. Since he still worked at the library, he often went through the books there on his break, and for a while he found himself looking up dog training books. Information on the training of police dogs, to be exact. The idea of a small K-9 unit had come to his mind in the past, and it was an idea he wanted to discuss with the residents of Attleton, as he didn't want to instate something like that without their approval on the matter. It's why he hadn't bothered with a proper law enforcement unit - the people there do a fine enough job in preventing petty crime, and bounty hunters take up the matters that they can't handle. A police force wasn't necessary.
But Blaze still thought about other ways to protect them - even beyond trying to figure out a way to make himself able to stand up against more powerful foes. And before he would even think about bringing the idea of a K-9 unit up, he wanted to see how difficult it'd be to train a dog himself. So, he was in the park with a black labrador and having a messenger bag slung over his shoulder containing various items like treats, water bottles and a couple books. He seems to be having a little trouble though, as his shoulders slump after his dog decides it was more interested in chasing its tail than listening to Blaze. He may be a good squadron leader, but a dog trainer he is not.]
I wonder if I should have named you Chopper instead of Kirk...
[B. Axiom Games]
[Speaking of leisure, Blaze might be found at Axiom Games at some point in the day. He was drawn to one of the flight simulators, because even though his Air Force days were over, even at home, Blaze still missed the skies sometimes. Simulators had nothing on the real thing, but it was at least still enjoyable.
The particular one he was playing was one of those fancy 'battle pods', and while being put inside a borderline claustrophobic pod complete with seat and flight stick was mildly amusing, the inaccuracies involved with the game were a major drawback... but that was because he was a trained pilot and not an active arcade going civilian. The wind effects were a nice touch, at least? Though they didn't help when it turned out the game was on rails so it required none of a pilot's skill at all. Also being able to fire six missiles at once. Repeatedly. Talk about inaccurate.
He at least attempted to enjoy it regardless. If anyone passes by the pod, in addition to whatever game sounds come from it, they might hear Blaze mutter codes like "Fox Two" and "Splash One" once in a while. He can't help it. Force of habit.]
[C. Library]
[Eventually, Blaze would be at the library to work his shift. Having a different kind of job amidst his frequent patrols was always good to break the monotony, although today, Blaze was seeming rather exhausted. Despite taking part of the day for recreation, his fatigue seemed to be catching up to him. He stayed on his feet for most of his shift so he could stay awake, but once he was sitting at his desk, he was rapidly fading in and out. He had a cup of coffee at the corner of his desk - well away from any books that are sitting nearby - but caffeine wasn't doing much for him.
Before he'd realized it, he'd leaned over the desk, head resting on his arms and closing his eyes. Resting his eyes is fine, right? Only he'd soon be dozing off, unless someone happens to wake him up again.]

[A. Garden Park]
[Airy sees Blaze as she's leaving the library and feels compelled to stop by when she sees the cute dog with him. She has a weakness for dogs having always wanted on.]
Hi Blaze. [She smiles at him suddenly feeling a little bit awkward.] I wanted to thank you for the other night. Other being the night of the ball. [Airy's pretty sure that masks do nothing to hide identities, as romantic as they might be.] I mean for worrying about me.
A lot of... crazy things have happened but um... how are you? How's Attleton? I know you're working a lot.
no subject
Go ahead, he'd welcome it.
[In fact, that'll be Kirk wandering right up to her with his tail wagging. Blaze smiles a bit, shaking his head.]
It's nothing. It's good to see you again.
Everything's been fine. Attleton's been as quiet as usual, thankfully. [He feels like he should be counting his lucky stars that it's far more peaceful than some of the other cities can be.] How are you doing?
no subject
I'm fine. [It's a lie but she's hoping that if she says it enough that it'll be true.] I'm glad that Attleton is doing okay. I don't know a lot about the other cities. Just Nova City since I work there.
[She looks between Kirk and Blaze, unsure who to look at right now.]
What are you doing with... him? [She doesn't know the dogs name.]
no subject
Oh. This is Kirk. [He gives the dog a pat on the head, who is enjoying the double attention.] I was seeing if I could maybe train him so he could help out on the job. If I managed that, I thought about getting together a small K-9 unit if the citizens of Attleton were fine with the idea.
[He smiles a bit sheepishly.]
But, needless to say, he's not listening to me completely yet.
no subject
[Airy smiles up at Blaze.
She wants him to believe that she's fine. It might not be completely true but she isn't sure how to talk to people, how to act or what to do anymore. She's recently been told that being herself isn't good, that she isn't a nice person, and she now questions everything she does.]
I think Kirk will get it. [She continues to pet him.] He's super smart right?
no subject
[The last thing he would want is to do something the citizens weren't happy with. He was still concerned for their safety while he was Guardian, in case something ever happened beyond his means, but he was still working on that one.
He smiles and nods. Kirk barked, wagging his tail while enjoying Airy's pettings.]
He is. I just need to figure out how to get him to focus first. He's being a little stubborn.
no subject
Alright, you heard Blaze. You need to behave and teach all the other puppies. Do you think you can do that?
[There is nothing weird about talking to dogs.]
no subject
Looks like I'll have a bit of work ahead of me to get him to listen.
no subject
[Airy flashes one last smile at Kirk before rising back to her feet. She brushes her hands on her pants feeling a little more relaxed now.]
I should probably let you go though. I think I'm distracting Kirk. When you're free we should grab something to eat and catch up. You're always so busy lately.
A
Even if the person was wrong and the dog the wrong color, she still remembered when Akamaru was that small and that energetic. Though it wasn't like either calmed down as they aged, either.
Still... Meditation can wait a little bit.]
Um, do you think a different name would make a difference?
no subject
No, but I couldn't help but be reminded of an old friend with him.
[Thinking about said friend was a painful memory these days, but he manages to keep his expression from showing it. He couldn't be a good leader if he couldn't keep his emotions in check.]
no subject
Well if he was as high energy as your dog, then I'm sure he was fun to be around. Though...
[She pauses, thinking back on how she found them.]
Were you... Um, I take it, him being this full of energy is... It's not exactly what you wanted?
no subject
He was fun. He knew how to make our team smile when nothing else could.
[But the more his mind would be left to think about Chopper, the worse he'll be able to hide his feelings. It was months ago, but it was still a fresh wound in his mind.
So he quickly focuses on her question and he looks at Kirk, waving the dog over to him. Petting the dog, his smile looked comfortable again.]
The energy is fine, since he'll need it. I just need to figure out how to make him focus so I can train him myself.
[Because getting an actual trainer to do it would probably be expensive, and Blaze doesn't want to have to use too much at once.]
no subject
[She smiles fondly as she says that, remembering her own team. And it only grows as the dog trots over.]
I...don't entirely think I can help out there, but he is just a puppy. Um, and... Well, whenever I saw my friend and his family with their dogs, they always spent a lot of time with them. Bonding and growing to trust each other. I think that's one of the reasons they always worked well together.
no subject
It's possible I haven't spent enough time with him yet. I adopted him a couple months ago, but I have to divide my time between him at the office and my cat in the apartment.
[That doesn't even begin to cover how he has to divide his time amongst everything else too.]
But I know he'll get it eventually.
no subject
[It's the best solution she can think of, especially since the only experience she has with dogs was always of her teammate bringing him everywhere. Class, missions... She's almost 100% sure that he used his dog as his bed even when they were home.]
C!
When she somehow manages to trip over something, possibly her own feet, and the books crash down to the floor in a very loud series of thuds, right next to where someone else was busy reading. Or was he sleeping?*
no subject
Once he was aware of what happened in the realm of reality, he was quick to get out of his chair and hurry over to the girl's side, kneeling next to her and offering her a hand.]
Are you alright?
no subject
Oh! I'm so sorry! I'm okay but the books are - Don't worry, I'll get them. I didn't mean to disturb you!
no subject
[Because he shouldn't be sleeping on the job. He should know better than that. He'll help her gather the books up, gently bending the pages of some books back into place before closing the cover on them. There didn't seem to be any major damage on the books, so there wouldn't be any reason to fret about them. Not that he would anyway. The girl was more important than the books.]
no subject
This library can be a pretty comfortable napping place. Thank you for helping with these.
*Once they're all back in a pile, Sonico bites her lip as she takes hold of the bottom book, attempting to lift them back up again*
Here goes nothing...
no subject
[He'll at least alleviate some of her troubles by taking half of the stack of books. The last thing he wanted was her to risk tripping again since she was over encumbered.]
Where did you want to take these?
no subject
*It was definitely easier to stand and carry half the pile of books, but she's still careful not to trip over her feet*
Hmm...anywhere is fine. I was just looking for a desk to sit and read a while. The nearest one would be fine.
no subject
Is this one alright, or would you rather a different one?
no subject
Oh, no. That was just fine. Thank you very much.
no subject
You're welcome. I'm Blaze, one of the librarians here. If you need anymore help, feel free to ask.
no subject
Oh! Oh, I am so sorry if I have messed up these books when I dropped them!
*Then she quickly bows, quite deeply, in apology and greeting both*
I'm Sonico. It's very nice to meet you.
