First Spell: The Arrival [Video] + [Action]

Video: [There is a lot of camera action going on, and an angry, dark-haired woman can be seen on the screen. At times the vision is unfocused, upside-down, blocked by her fingers, or even shook. Actually, it is shaken a lot.]

What in the hells is...ugh! [Violent shaking overtakes the feed.] Stupid...contraption!

[This sort of interaction continues on. Her fist hits the screen a couple of times, making it go black as the feed cuts off.

It's probably still usable?]

Action in Genessia: [Li-Ming is no stranger to foreign lands, but this...was definitely not Sanctuary. There's far more metal and movement than usual, and far more people dressed so...oddly. She stares around at people that pass her by, yet although she thinks them odd, she's the one with a wand in one hand and a magic source floating in the other. Unknowingly, Li-Ming walks into a street crowded with cars, with a few coming right towards her. Without hesitation, she casts a forceful wave of energy to knock back the traffic. Unharmed, she's created a circle around her while vehicles pile up around her. Noting that the mechanical monstrosities wouldn't attack further, she points a gloved finger to a random stranger.]

You, there! [Her wand hand sweeps over the piles of damaged cars.] Tell me about these creatures, and this... [She looks about the tall buildings with a skeptical eye.] town.

Um...excuse me!

[Azalea tries to call out through the device as the woman shakes it violently, hoping she'd hear her before she ends up breaking it.]

Calm down! Your device works just fine!

[The movement stops abruptly as Li-Ming scans her surroundings for the voice. There isn't anyone around, so the only culprit is the device in her hand. Slowly, comically, even, her eyes rift back down to the object she was handling so roughly.

And finds a small...lizard like creature on the screen. There is a bit of silence before she speaks and gathers herself.]

...so it seems it is. Are you what drives these mechanisms? [Is this creature stuck inside of it?]

Me? Oh no...I'm using a device myself. Everyone here has one, and we communicate with each other with it.

Even creatures like yourself?

[How can it even use one?]

Um, yes...even me. There are other non-human creatures here as well. We can use this device as easily as humans can.

So how exactly can you use this device, and what sort of creature are you?

[This rather interesting conversation is a welcomed distraction to just being sucked into another place.]

I'm a dragon. I use the device the same way humans do.

[She'll bring her talons in front of the screen and flex them, showing the woman that she's capable of grasping objects...small ones, at least.]

A dragon that speaks! I do not believe I have ever had the opportunity to enjoy such a thing.

[Mostly because they may have tried to kill her, or couldn't speak. Or both.]

Are such devices common amongst your fellow dragons?

Actually, no. I'm the only dragon who has one, that I'm aware of. The people and creatures who are native to this world don't have these devices, and the dragons who were brought in with my subarchway don't have them either.

These devices...I don't know what to make of them. [While they seem convenient, they are a very new way of communication for her. Face to face is what she knows best.]

What is a subarchway?

They're strange to me, too, but they're quite convenient. It's easy to communicate with each other, and call for help if we need it. Once you get used to it, you'll see what I mean.

[She smiles even more as she begins to explain the subarchway.]

A subarchway is like a little piece of your homeland that you can bring in. It'll connect to one of the five cities with a gate. You have to give up something important to you to be able to open one, however. For myself, I gave up one of my best spells.

Bringing in any part of my world would not be a good idea, but it is good to know such a thing exists. How is it possible?

[Nephalem. Diablo knew that stench anywhere. They had been a thorn in his side for so long... but perhaps this could be a blessing in disguise. With the way time moved in this place, Diablo hit upon an idea and assumed a form he though he was through with. Quickly he emerged from a nearby alley wearing Leah's skin, shouting apologies while moving toward the wizard.]

You really shouldn't do that here. Come with me, I'll explain everything to you.

...Leah...

[No. Li-Ming knew that Leah was dead, thanks to that witch of a mother of hers, and became the vessel for Diablo. For a brief moment during her surprise at seeing the familiar face. Li-Ming could not help but feel relief. That maybe Leah's soul is at rest here somehow.

But she knew better than to have such hopes.

Wordlessly, Li-Ming raises her hand, palm up, to conjure a three-headed hydra that filled the air with cold immediately after appearing. It definitely won't be breathing fire. The crowd that had gathered started to scatter at the sight of the sudden appearance of the hydra.]

...is dead. I will not be fooled by such trickery...Diablo!

[Well this was... annoying. Still, hopefully the Nephalem could still be used.]

['Leah' stumbles backward, falling on her back, bringing her arms up to shield her face.]

I don't know what you're talking about! Please, Li-Ming, you have to believe me! The last thing I remember is arriving at Bastion's Keep!

[It annoyed him to be groveling before the wizard but it would be worth it if they could be swayed.]

How is that even possible?! After we saved Bastion's Keep, that witch Adria turned Leah into your vessel! There is no denying that! Even a wizard as accomplished as myself cannot change history to that sort of extent!

[It just wasn't possible for Leah to remember only that, unless she has amnesia. Li-Ming didn't let up her guard, nor let her hydras fall.]

We all know what we saw! What you did in your wake! [Li-Ming pointed her wand at whom she thought to be Leah. She couldn't let herself be fooled, even though there is a sympathetic thought in her mind to believe this really is the Leah she traveled with for so long. She said she would explain everything, meaning she has been in this place a while. It could mean one of two things: this really is Leah, or Diablo is lurking, plotting in the shadows to take over this place, too.

The tip of the wand glows red, readying for a Disintegrate spell.] I cannot take the chance of repeating those events here. [There is a pause before she continues.] Unless you are willing to have me place a seal on you.

[If this is Leah, then she wouldn't object. And it isn't like Li-Ming has such a seal at the moment, but she'd have to make one.]

[Diablo considers for half a moment before nodding. A seal that would contain him would be fairly rare, and considering how Li-Ming was acting, it was fairly safe to assume she had just woken up here with her gear and nothing else. He'll call her bluff, and if worse comes to worse, he had thralls that could undo the seal in secret.]

If that's what it takes for you to believe me, fine. Just please, calm down...

[With the agreement in place, Li-Ming lets her spell dissipate, as well as allowing her hydra to disappear without refreshing it. The barrier around her still remains, but it'll disappear, too, on its own.

Li-Ming definitely needed answers, so cooperating for now would be in her best interests.

Her wand is stored away before she extends a hand to Leah on the ground to help her up.]

You have much to explain. [Such as how Leah could be from one timeline that is wholly different from hers.]

[There's a small sigh as she gets back on her feet.]

We probably shouldn't be talking in the middle of the street though... this way, there's a cafe we can talk at nearby.

Y-Your device will break if... if you're mean to it!

[The shaking stops, and she looks down at the screen. At the person...trapped inside?]

I am not trying to be mean. I am trying to make it work! [There's a difference!] Maybe I could enchant it somehow...

I-It works better if you don't b-break it...

Y... You're talking to me, s-so it is working.

[Li-Ming looks at the device skeptically.]

Perhaps for now, it will work. [They seem a little too complicated to work all the time, though.]

What is your name?

I-It should always work like... like this.

I-I'm Bracken. Nice, Nice to meet you.

[She floats the device in front of her, so she could fold her arms. Why hold it when you could float it?]

I am Li-Ming. Nice meeting you, as well.

Is what that image over there true? Are we all stuck here for the time being?

I-I think so. I... I haven't been able to t-teleport home yet.

B-But... It isn't too bad. O-Other than missing my friends. People... People here are nice.

You are quite fortunate to have people to miss. Where I am from, most do know such a feeling, only because their loved ones are dead.

[This conversation turned a bit dark.]

I do hope to adjust to this place. I am no stranger to foreign lands, yet this is the strangest of all.

O-Oh...

[His expression fell. A bit dark indeed. He played with his staff a bit, scraping at the wood ground.]

I-If you stay in safe pl... places here, you, you should be able to m-make lots of friends w-without dying.

Is that where most friends can be made? [She had few friends, and even they didn't stay in safe places.]

[He nodded more firmly.]

Y-Yes, there's lots of nice people. Y-You can make lots of f-friends, if you want.

[It isn't like Li-Ming has much experience with making friends, having only had one close friend most of her life. How she misses Isendra.]

Have you made many friends here?

[He nodded.]

I-I think so. I can't wait to s-see my friends from home again, t-too.

That is not how one uses a device.

[Just as she was about to lose her temper and had a ball of lightning in her hand, another voice spoke up. While the ball did not disappear, Li-Ming is inclined to listen and look at the screen.]

Is that so? Then how does one use this device? There are not any instructions.

True and that doesn't make it easier but sometimes press one button. It does something. Once you know what that button does you can remember it for later.

Hmm...I see.

[A pause as she looks over the device.]

What buttons, exactly?

[She doesn't see any protruding from the device...]

Just press the screen to start with then something will appear that looks like buttons, but don't expand out. Like I guess a touch screen if that makes sense.

It does not.

[She does see that there seems to be things on the screen. Li-Ming gives it a tentative touch, noticing something open into a game with colorful cats and candies.]

Is this...Whimsydale? [Who would ever want to put that in this device?]

I don't know that place you mentioned, so no.

[He paused for a moment.]

This is Genessia.

I was not talking about this place, but the one in this device. It is quite colorful.

[And she also didn't know how to get out of the program. She just starts touching random spots, which only makes things move around and start a game before finally closing out the program somehow.]

Why, exactly, are these without instructions?

That I don't know, you would think they would which such a thing.

[Maybe someone should do something like that.]

Maybe we should do something like that, so people won't get as confused in the future.
