[action | closed] burning into the night

Who: Sanzo and Amberdrake, then later Sanzo and Alleyana Lavellan.
When: OP and first thread: The first night of the curses, Oct 21st. Second thread: a week later.
What: OP and first thread: Drake arrives home after his first encounter with Ukoku to find Sanzo is a woof. Also-a-woof Alley shows up later to bark her frustrations at Sanzo. Second thread: Drake tells Sanzo about Ukoku creeping around his office.
Where: Drake and Sanzo's house.
Warnings: Drake's a bit suggestive in the second thread.

Amberdrake didn't allow his weariness to show until he'd firmly closed the front door of the house behind him, leaning back against it for a moment to collect his thoughts. The birds who had traveled home with him fluttered off and up the stairs.

Sanzo dipped his head, nose pressing against his leg. He wasn't sure what he felt, embarrassed, pleased, or awkward? Weird, he at least could pick that one out. His face wasn't supposed to be this long.

"Do whatever you want," he grumbled without any bite, literal or metaphorical, to back up his words.

Curse him. Curse Drake and how he seemed magically good at just about anything. Except guns, Sanzo had to teach him that. Sanzo comforted himself with that thought as his nose slipped until it was pressing against the sheets. Curse him. That felt good and curse himself for allowing this.

He stretched, some of the soreness from being trapped starting to ease.

"This is weird," he said, somewhat muffled.

Sanzo muttered something rude and incomprehensible before raising his head. The fur, at least, was something in between him and Drake's complete lack of concern that Sanzo wasn't wearing clothes. He shouldn't expect any different.

"I hadn't thought of that." He still didn't want to, Drake was going to make things so annoying if he was stuck for a while. "I'm not dying, you fuss too much."

"No one has to do anything about me," Sanzo grumbled, because of course he had to reply like that. Accepting Drake's overwhelming kindness was a struggle. At least he had to appear like it was a struggle. Drake could feel the gratitude and how he was steadily growing calmer. He didn't even pull away from the forehead kiss.

Drake could care about him no matter how he looked, even when he was turned into a damned dog. The thought was baffling.

Sanzo's ear twitched in response. He hoped he wasn't like this long enough to get used to how things like that felt.

"Annoying, what do you think? Didn't you know enough people with tails to ask them what it was like?" Grumble, grumble, he was going to keep up the facade of annoyance, and he was at least partially still annoyed, out of habit.

Sanzo grunted and put up a token resistance. The farthest he got was getting a claw stuck on the sheets. Paws were bullshit, fur was bullshit, this was all bullshit. He sagged against Drake, defeated.

"It's stupid and was stuck against my leg for three hours. I don't suggest growing one." What was he even supposed to do with it?

Sanzo huffed, thought about making another snappy comment, and decided against it. Suddenly turning into a big furry beast was pretty shitty, he'd just have to take what upsides he could. Drake's patience was a notable upside.

He laid his head down and hoped he could drift back off to sleep. Maybe this would fade in the morning.

Several blissfully quiet hours went by before there was suddenly a very loud, very big Bark! outside the bedroom window.

Yes, that was right. Not just outside the house, but level with the second story. Amberdrake nearly fell out of the bed, and the birds all went apeshit.

Sanzo shot up and went immediately over the side of the bed in his attempts to sit up like a person. Four legs flailed wildly for a second before he remembered which way was up and scrambled to his feet. For fuck's sake! He couldn't even use his gun like this!

Claws clicking on the floor, he lurched for the window and pawed at the curtains furiously to push them aside. What the hell?!

Ah. That's what.

Six glowing red eyes looked through the window at Sanzo, surrounded by darkness. Frustration and annoyance to match the priest's own poured off the huge monstrosity of a wolf outside the window.

"You got hit by this shit too? Fan-tastic."

That was definitely Alley's voice, just... bigger. A lot bigger.

Sanzo didn't think that volume of Alley's voice would ever be welcome again. Her being behind that beast was better than just about any other idea that had popped into mind at the sight of it. He wouldn't have to figure out how to kill a giant demon while missing thumbs. Good.

Getting the window open was less good. He tried to push up, paws pressed against the glass. No luck. Getting those stupid, fat toes under the edge didn't work either! In the end he had to resort to hooking a pen, held in his mouth, under the lip, and jamming it up far enough to get a paw under it. His pride hurt something fierce already.

"What the hell are you?" he asked in place of a greeting.

Alley helped push the window up until it latched, with her giant... nose? Whatever comprised most of this form was so dark it was hard to tell what it even was. "My fucking ex, apparently," she managed to reply quieter, now that she wasn't doing so through glass. Car alarms all down the block were still going off from that earlier bark. "This is beyond stupid."

"You don't need to tell me that." Sanzo looked down as he said that. Yep, she really was that big. He wondered if there was anything left of her apartment.

"I hate this place," he repeated. He'd keep saying it too, until this ordeal was over.

"What are you doing here? Did you see no one else affected?"

"Maybe I just wanted to see if you looked as dumb as a wolf as you do as a human," Alley snarked, because that was far better than admitting she'd been worried about a... friend?? ? The Inquisitor huffed out a sigh, which was significant at this size. Those stupid car alarms were still going off. She was going to go step on them.

Sanzo wrinkled his nose- muzzle?- at the sigh. That was a lot of dog breath to the face.

"Well you have your answer, what do you want?" Of course, he wasn't at all concerned! That she was turned into a giant beast but seemingly okay was no matter to him.

"...How did you get here? Did you turn into this in the street or are you missing half a house?"

"Right now what I want to do is smash those stupid cars, or get away from them." Big ears meant big hears.

"I was already outside." Thank fuck.

"You best hope this wears off." Sanzo should that hope as well but at least he could fit inside a house. Or anywhere for that matter. Maybe she could fit in a parking garage?

"If you're wanting to get away from them, why are you lingering here? I'm stuck as you are. I can't invite you inside." Nor would he, if possible. It was night time. He should be asleep.

"Ugh, you're impossible," Alleyana scoffed, and turned to roam down the block. Metal crunching sounds ensued as one by one the car alarms stopped.

"Hey!" She was guilt tripping him while also a massive demon dog beast. Unbelievable. Even worse, he didn't feel as satisfied by her turning away as he should have. He was tired, damnit.

It took considerable effort, a great deal of fumbling, and help from Drake, but Sanzo managed to get a small bag, with phone and sutra inside, strapped to his side. He could still hear Alley's massive footsteps, so she couldn't be far away by the time he made it outside. He immediately regretted the decision to do so, he felt terribly exposed, not wearing clothes and all. Alley had managed it, however, so he could. Crawling back inside and Drake knowing he'd chickened out wasn't an option.

He jogged off in the direction of the big black blob in the distance, miffed, tail hanging low.
