[action | closed] burning into the night

Who: Sanzo and Amberdrake, then later Sanzo and Alleyana Lavellan.
When: OP and first thread: The first night of the curses, Oct 21st. Second thread: a week later.
What: OP and first thread: Drake arrives home after his first encounter with Ukoku to find Sanzo is a woof. Also-a-woof Alley shows up later to bark her frustrations at Sanzo. Second thread: Drake tells Sanzo about Ukoku creeping around his office.
Where: Drake and Sanzo's house.
Warnings: Drake's a bit suggestive in the second thread.

Amberdrake didn't allow his weariness to show until he'd firmly closed the front door of the house behind him, leaning back against it for a moment to collect his thoughts. The birds who had traveled home with him fluttered off and up the stairs.

Sanzo grunted in surprise and grabbed the edge of the bed. It didn't do much, his hand slipping as he was pulled back. He could have put forth a real effort, but he didn't. It's not like he hadn't expected Drake to do just that. It was easiest not to think about why he allowed it to happen anyways. He could just be comfortable. Still somewhat tense, there was only so much he could do about that after that news.

"Yes?" he grumbled at Drake.

"I don't care what he thinks of anything," Sanzo replied, pretending he was completely unaffected by Drake's affection. A subtle ease of tension betrayed him.

"What he does is of greater concern." And he meant it. Frustrating Ukoku only mattered if he wasn't also in a position to lash out from said frustration. Sanzo wouldn't put it past him to repeat the same trick he'd pulled before and cut Drake down in front of Sanzo for his own amusement. Or whatever he sought to gain by tormenting the younger priest.

"I know that," Sanzo said with even more growl in his voice to hide his embarrassment. Drake was so terribly affectionate, he didn't know how he was supposed to get used to that. He frowned at him, at a loss at how to probably respond to it.

"I don't want to know what his problem is, knowing won't make him go away or stop him." With Sanzo's luck, it would be something he truly didn't want to know.

Sanzo let out a surprised huff, that was not the expected reaction to increased aggression! Or at all, for that matter, though Sanzo wasn't sure how Drake kept surprising him so easily. Just about anything he did provoked some kind of sappy reaction. He had a hand on Drake's arm and wasn't sure if he should push Drake's arm away or not. He decided on just leaving his hand there.

"The less I know of that man's mind the better," Sanzo replied, still trying to drown out confusion and sheepishness with a harsh tone.

Very, was the answer today. Sanzo jumped and, to his great displeasure, felt his face grow hot. The grip on Drake's arm tightened, though he still didn't push him away.

"Do you want something?" he asked, indignant. He knew Drake was doing this to get a reaction and was annoyed with himself for providing one. He glared at Drake, looking just as flustered as he did irritated.

It took Sanzo a second for his brain to catch up and then for him to jerk back. If distraction was any part of Drake's intentions, it had worked.

"You are an ass," he snapped, too flustered to actually be near as furious as he sounded. He leaned back, glaring down his nose at Drake as he did so, not realizing how silly he might look down this while laying down.

Ruined somewhat, yes. Yet it took the edge off Sanzo's embarrassment as well. His feelings for Drake were a terrifying lump in his chest he refused to examine, for fear of their exact nature and how strong they might be. He was fooling no one, especially not himself, but that way was easier. Right now it was easier to think about them and how not awful it was to be where he was right now, than to dwell on everything else he had to worry about. It was Drake's fault for being so endearing, he thought.

He leaned down to press a brief, light kiss to Drake's lips. He then turned his head so he was watching Drake out of the side of his vision instead.

"You're insufferable, go back to bed." Sanzo didn't move away, however, only enough to reduce the amount of elbows in ribs between the two of them.

"I hate you," Sanzo muttered into Drake's shoulder in reply. What a jackass.

He waited until Drake's breathing slowed and he seemed solidly back to sleep before pushing himself up and to the side. For a while he looked down at Drake, lost in thought. What he was thinking about, he couldn't remember when he finally looked away.

For a moment he considered baiting Ukoku into showing himself while Drake was asleep and thus unable to convince him not to do this. That would lead to a fight, however, and a fight he wouldn't win. He needed more time to think on that. First he needed a cigarette and then... maybe he would sit on the bed to read for a while. He ignored the thought that admitted it was because he wanted to be close to Drake and simply told himself he was still tired and thus it was a good idea.
