Spring Cleaning!

WHO: OPEN
WHAT: An ad requesting assistance culling creatures in Everglade was posted recently. The log is catchall for those who respond to it.
WHEN: April 25, 2014
WHERE: Everglade Marsh

When travelers/mercenaries/guardian trainees/whoever reach Everglade, they meet the poster of the request, Stuart. He describes the creatures in question as Biguana, and explains that normally they make their home in the marshes outside Everglade. Of late they've been breeding quite a bit and due to successful attacks on adventurers/wanderers that risk going out there unprepared, they've gotten extremely bold. He goes on to note that the creatures have made a den in an underground cavern accessed through a sinkhole a mile and a half from town. When our brave adventurers make their way to said sinkhole (mind the mud, it's slippery in some places), they'll find the cavern - which doesn't really look very stable. There are tracks, multiple ones, of creatures leading in and out of the den. Dare ye brave the depths?

[ OOC: Inside is a group of 10-18 'Biguana', each one about the size and speed of an average horse. They attack with spikes, draining magic and - in some cases - thrown weapons. Reward is $100 per head. ]

Oops. Betelgeuse ducks underneath the first monster, rolling onto his back. He wraps his coils around the second one, trying to unbalance it. All the time, he cackles, a high-pitched, happy sound meant to intimidate and creep out the monsters. Well, it works with humans. He keeps a wary eye on the third one. Getting bitten probably wouldn't do him any real harm, but it would probably hurt quite a lot.

Betelgeuse gave a long squeak of pain, when the third biguana bit down on him. He was right. The damage was minimal, really, but the pain was horrible! If there was one thing Betelgeuse hated (and really he hated a lot of things), it was something trying to eat him. Betelgeuse shifted his coils up the second biguana in order to snap it's neck, hoping he would be able to use it as a meaty sort of club to take out the third biguana. For good measure, he took a swipe at biting into the underside of the first biguana, just to weaken it and keep it from attacking.

Betelgeuse laughs in relief, when the third biguana falls away. Taking advantage of the reprieve, Betelgeuse releases the first biguana, only to strike out at it again, intending to rip through it's belly in earnest. He keeps his lower coils and tail thrashing wildly, in an attempt to stay safe from the third biguana, should it recover too soon.

Oh, decisions, decisions. Betelgeuse is tempted to just stay and chow down on the delicious blood and guts, but...that last biguana is worth another hundred dollars! Revenge and avarice together sent him after the third. That thing had chomped him just like a sandworm and that wasn't something Betelgeuse could just let go! He shot after the thing, moments after it took off.

Betelgeuse striked out, aiming for the lower legs of the biguana. The last thing he wanted was the big lizard getting out among people in this state! All he had to do was disable the legs and Betelgeuse could break the biguana's neck, finishing the kill and the hunt.

Betelgeuse gave another screeching hiss of pain, as the spikes raked across his face, leaving deep scratches. Angry, Betelgeuse surged forward to sink his teeth into the biguana's throat, eager for it's blood. He wasn't sure this was worth a hundred dollars, but he wasn't going to let this thing get the better of him!

Betelgeuse waited for the last of the thrashing to stop, lapping idly at the blood. Sweet! When the thing was finally dead, Betelgeuse rolled around for a minute, laughing in triumph. At last, he changed back to his human form and began collecting the heads for his payment. It was time to collect his cash, then have some fun in town!
