8th Song - Sighing and Singing [voice]

*Really, Sonico is just musing aloud here and, as she's a little embarrassed by what she has to say, she opts for voice rather than video*

It was strange, trying to get used to not being a mermaid anymore. I think I liked it more than I thought... Anyone else miss the creature they were? I liked being so beautiful and special. Maybe whatever made it happen will come back again. That'd be nice.

I've written a couple of new songs too... Please let me know what you think. I'd appreciate any feedback at all.

*Having broken ribs was a real pain, in more ways that one, but Sonico has used her resting time to work on some new music. Belting songs out loudly still hurts, so she has decided to give some quieter music a try. Instead, Sonico plays some sweet and calming tunes on an acoustic guitar, and occasionally she adds a voice melody, equally sweet and soothing. Songs about friendship, about trying to find a place in the world, about feeling alone but hopeful*

[Athrun listens quietly to the impromptu performance. Once Sonico finishes, he responds.]

That was really good. You've very skilled at music.

*Sonico smiles at the compliment - he can no doubt hear it in her voice*

Thank you very much! I just like to sing and play a lot, that's all.

[That statement gets Athrun's attention. He looks rather surprised that it's just a hobby for her.]

You mean you don't do anything with it professionally? Because you sound like you could.

*Really, she had just said that as a way of taking his compliment modestly. She laughs quietly then turns on the video mode to show her smiling on her bed with her guitar*

I guess you've never been to one of my concerts? You should come next time.

[That information surprises Athrun, and his face shows it. He wasn't aware that Sonico was putting on concerts. If he had been, he undoubtedly would have gone to at least one.

...Probably all of them, actually.]

I. I'm sorry. I didn't know you were putting concerts on. When is the next one?

[The best thing he can do now is attend future concerts. He won't miss the next one.]

*Sonico tilts her head at his surprise and gives a reassuring smile*

Please don't be sorry. I'm not always the best at advertising these things.

*She laughs softly, a little awkward*

The next one is at the end of the month, I think. I should be much better to be on stage by then.

[Athrun smiles awkwardly. He's just grateful that he didn't end up hurting Sonico's feelings.]

Well, once you have a date and a venue determined, please let me know. I'll make sure to be there.

[Even if it means rescheduling work, Athrun will make it. He's that determined to do so.]

*Sonico smiles brightly and clasps her hands*

Of course I'll let you know. It'd be really nice to have you there. Guess I'd better get practising to make sure I don't disappoint.

It wasn't sunshine and rainbows for everyone, you know. Might not be so nice for the vampires if that curse comes back.

Oh, of course. I'm sorry.

*And her voice really does sound soft and apologetic*

It must not have been easy for some. I hope you didn't have a difficult time...

Oh, no, I had a great time, personally. I was a merman myself! I just like to try and think of those less fortunate.

[ ... more like he's still annoyed that he got a wakeup call at three in the morning to rescue Emerald, who had gotten the vampire equivalent of food poisoning by sucking blood from a nonhuman. But. Same thing. ]

It's in my nature.

Oh, you were? It is good of you to think of others.

*Sonico sighs, because she often puts others before herself. She doesn't like to sound selfish*

Oh, I hope I haven't offended anyone with what I said!

Yeah... it was weird not having legs. Especially for someone like me, who's super fond of the pair he has.

[ Even though his legs are half non-existent to begin with. ]

You might have! Some people are really thin-skinned. Hopefully no one cries over it.

It was weird. But I loved being able to swim as much as I liked and the scales were so pretty!

*Sonico gasps then and the worry really begins to start*

Surely - surely not! I didn't mean anything bad for anyone else. Not at all! Should I apologise? I don't want anyone to be hurt!

I did make it look good... I wear a shark tail pretty well. Damn, I should have taken a selfie.

[ It's a good thing this is voice-only, because he's grinning the more she frets. He does his best to keep his amusement out of his voice, though. ]

I say you don't. You're allowed to want things for yourself. People will get over it pretty quick.

It's a shame that you didn't. I spent a lot of time being photographed...though I haven't kept any pictures for myself.

I hope so... I hope people realise I didn't mean any harm. Honestly, I didn't.

*Another heavy, guilty sigh*

[ Enough time with Emerald has taught him that you can get money out of just about anything.

Well, actually, yes. Or, I didn't charge, the client did...

*She seemed to have already have proved that she was a bad person - she didn't want him to think she was arrogant too*

Huh. Getting paid to be pretty... I should get in on that market.

[ He, on the other hand, is anything but modest. ]

Who knows? Some people get triggered by a light breeze blowing the wrong way.

Why not? You should check out the talent agency. They seem really nice so far, and they seem to care about the kind of jobs I get.

*There is much fidgeting going on the other side of the camera, twisting of hair and shirt hem*

Are you...are you sure I shouldn't apologise...?

Maybe I will. This postman gig was sweet for a while, but it gets old quick.

[ He just won't do any swimsuit shots. Easy enough. ]

*Does she trust him? Not really? She barely even knows him*

*At least it wasn't about trust, it was about how horrible Sonico felt now*

But...if I've really hurt people, or reminded them of hurtful things, isn't it only fair and right that I apologise?

[ That's fair. Frankly, she shouldn't trust him, not that she really knows that yet. ]

Well, you don't really know that you have. Apologizing now would just be assuming that people are thinking of awful things, and if they hadn't been before then they would definitely start to once you brought it up.

So... really, you're doing them a favor by not apologizing.

I...Suppose. Yes.

*Another deep and miserable sigh. Poor Sonico - she'll be worrying about this all day now*

*Sonico just nods and stares miserably at her phone. Then she realises he can't see that and instead clears her throat to speak up with a crackly voice*

... Of course, he was faking blindness, but no one needs to know that. ]

But I am upset. There might be other people out there upset, all because of how thoughtless I was.

*This was exactly why she didn't talk to people. It was just so much easier keeping to herself*

Anyway, please don't worry about me. I just have to accept my mistakes and remember in future to maybe think more before I speak. I'll be okay.

*Sonico isn't really sure she should say anything exactly, not when she might get into trouble with her employers*

Well, I've had some work dropped, and some contracts have fallen through because..people don't want to pay for just a normal girl.

Ohhhhh. Naw girl, that ain't cuz y' ain't special or beautiful no more. 'S cuz y' ain't a damn novelty no more. They was usin' y' as a gimmick an' the gimmick's gone.

[He waves his hand in front of his face, like trying to fan away a fart.]

*She can see his point, definitely. Still though, novelty had made more people tell her that she was beautiful and special*

Maybe... But it does make me wonder if perhaps people liked me more because of it? Well, I suppose it's too late to say. I'm used to having my boring old legs back!

[A shrug. He... actually kind of wonders the same thing himself. But in his case it makes sense.]

*Sonico lowers her eyes at that and slowly nods her head, then plays nervously with the ends of her hair*

I suppose it will be okay. When my bruise heals, I'll get work again.

Y e a h, 's probably for the best that y' take a break anyway. Oughta cancel the rest a yer shoots an' let yerself heal up good. Want someone t' bitch 'bout it with, talk t' Adela. Girl knows a thing or two 'bout gettin' the shit beat outta y' an' takin' it easy after.

Definitely gonna have work after. Holidays is comin' up... if they celebrate 'em 'round here. Bet y'd make a super gorgeous snow queen or whatever. Put some sparkly glitter shit all up in yer hair an' a buncha pink on yer nose an' yer cheeks so y' look cold all the time. Hell yeah!

There's always lots of things for me to do at Christmas - cute Santa outfits, and elf costumes. But I like the pink idea - that sounds super cute. I should tell my agent those ideas.

*Finally Sonico smiles at him and nods her head appreciatively at his comments*
