Video

[The camera flips on to reveal a pretty young woman who at the moment is covered in bruises. But beyond that and her being soaking wet from getting out of the bay she's in one piece all things considered. And after a few minutes of playing with the feed she speak.]

I think I must have hit that desk a bit harder than expected.

But matters of concern: dry clothes and finding the short term housing. And if anyone knows how to repair a broken earpiece on glasses that would be a massive plus.

[ Their current location was unexpected enough as it is. This is just about the last thing he was expecting on the network here. It's overwhelmingly impossible for Kristen Kringle to be here. In one piece. Breathing. And yet, there she is asking about glasses repair of all things.

Maybe he's hallucinating. That's far more plausible explanation. It wouldn't be the first time it happened. Granted, it's never been her he was hallucinating before but he wouldn't put it past his brain to conjure up her face, especially with the stressful circumstances. That must be it. Unless it isn't... There have been far more unusual things to happen than the dead returning. She hit a desk, she said? Time discrepancy, perhaps?

He sure has been staring at this far too long instead of doing something about it. After deliberation, he composes himself and clicks the video to respond. ]

Miss Kringle? [ What if she corrects him and says that's not her name? He clears his throat, which is still uncomfortable given his own bruising. ]

I can offer assistance. If you leave the Bay through the westernmost exit and go straight, temporary housing provided should be directly on your left. It's a new building. Can't miss it. You should have a key with you indicating a room number. I can locate clothes and leave them for you at the front along with something to fix your glasses with, if you'd like.

[ That is a clue. A rather large one with some interesting implications. He didn't bruise her on the shoulder when he- ...well. The fact that she looks relieved is a clue itself. She certainly would not be relieved to see her own killer. She's wearing paradoxical glasses now. That's almost funny.

Her relieved recognition does mean that it is, in fact, Kristen Kringle and not anyone else. He really hasn't thought about how much he missed her face until just now. It's like a redo. ]

I'll have things for you momentarily. Apologies that they're not quite up to standard. It's short notice.

In a multiversal conundrum. Do you like comic books, Miss Kringle? ...No? Well. One character may not exist in the same universe as another of a different comic, in order to not conflict details with their respective story-lines. Different writers. Can't keep all the details straight.

So! When they want one to interact with another for whatever reason, they'll take them both and place them into another third universe entirely for the same reasons. We'd current be in that universe. It's a location that seems to exist simply for the purpose of bringing people in from different universes.

[ Is this getting too Meta? ]

Isn't it fascinating? I haven't discovered the pattern behind having us be here, specifically. Yet. I'll let you know once I have more information.

Were those the only things you needed?

Exactly. I think it would be highly unlikely we'll grow too bored here.

Then it should be at the front, whenever you want to collect it. And tea. Bags. You'll have to make it yourself. Or I could do it and wait. I don't trust the man at the front with a beverage. He seems like the type that would sip other people's drinks when they weren't looking.

[ There are some expressions on Barbara's face that might seem like she's definitely going through something in her head to anyone who knows her. First that sense of 'Don't I know you?' followed by remembering the pictures in the paper and the positively ecstatic grin at the realization that yes, this is the girl that landed Edward Nygma in Arkham. Well, she and Jim but from the sounds of it, she lead to Jim anyway. (All roads seem to, which Babs can't complain about.) ]

Ed's told me so much about you but he didn't mention how endearing you are. You and I are going to have to teach him a lesson about being honest about the women in his life later. [ The smile tones down a bit, more friendly now instead of looking like she just won the lottery. ] I'm Barbara.

[ Because "Aren't you that dead girl?" doesn't quite have the ring of blackmail she's looking for. Making friends is the better option. ]

I know. You work at the GCPD, don't you? It's nice to finally meet you.

[ Hey, if she hides that she knows her it's going to go worse than if she's upfront about it. The best lies are woven with honesty. ]

I can show you how to get to the community housing. I can't really help you with dry clothes, but there are plenty of shops around. As for the last, it depends on how it is broken.

I see. Sounds like you must be set, then.
