Winter Illusion: Lonely Fairy [Video/Action at Fairy Haven] OTA

[For those who know the place called "Fairy Haven" in Fayren, that's exactly what they can see displayed on their screens right now.]

I've looked everywhere...

[The image is trembling, as if the hand holding the communication device was shaking slightly.]

Lucy, Natsu... Even you, Zeira... Are you all really gone?

[A few more seconds, then the feed turns towards a young girl with long blond hair and two small white wing hair clips.]

For those who don't know me yet, my name is Mavis. I'm the First Guild Master of Fairy Tail.

It seems my companions have left, but I know they had offered hospitality and assistance to some of you at Fairy Haven.

Of course, you're welcome to stay. And if any of my guildmates had offered you help with anything, please let me know and I'll be happy to do it in their stead. Until they return.

[She pauses and seems about to turn off the feed, but then adds as an afterthought.]

But if I'm wrong, and any member of Fairy Tail is still here in Genessia, do contact me as soon as you see this.

[And that's all she says. She misses them but she believe they were sent home when they'll be safe and can put the war to an end.]

I've tried to contact them, but their communication devices seem to have been disconnected.
I've tried to look for them, but they're nowhere to be found.
Looks like... it's just you and me now.
I think I'm going to stay at Fairy Haven for a while. In case anyone needs me.

[Instead of a signature, there's this. One of the many drawings of fairies Mavis has been working on, everytime Zeref and her would decide to spend the afternoon in the forest, away from the rest of the world.]

{ While he, himself, has never been in a guild and has never had the desire to join one, he's well aware of the familial bond that has formed between Fairy Tail's members, having seen them for as long as he has both in this world and in Exsilium, he's sure that was very, very difficult for Mavis to say. It isn't long afterward that he receives the private text message, and it takes him a while to respond. He's unsure if he should offer his sympathies, given that his followers have tried - and damn near succeeded - to kill many of those same members. But thankfully, she does give something else for which to reply. }

If they are indeed still here, or if any other members of your guild arrive or return and find me there, I don't need to tell you how they are going to react.

{ As would anyone from Alvarez, for that matter, but he leaves that unsaid, given the circumstances. }

[He looks similarly somber, though he's had more time to deal with the loss of one member in particular]

"Hello, Ms. Mavis. Yes, I've seen their names in the usual place. I'm sorry for your loss. I knew Lucy a little and Levy...very much."

[Levy in particular still stings]

[Mavis had not expected Zeref to offer his sympathies. But right now, she was feeling lonelier than she had felt in a long time.]

If they come back, I won't need to stay at Fairy Haven either and we can go back to the inn.

[Mavis tries to force a small smile on her lips.]

Thank you, sir. I know I won't be the only one to miss them here. They'd made lots of friends.

[And she's grateful for that.]

{ He knows. He can tell. He can't claim to be able to relate to how she's feeling at the moment, but he isn't without empathy. And after all of the time they've spent together... well, at the moment, he's all she has. A feeling he knew all too well, nearly one century ago. }

We will stay wherever you wish, Mavis. We made a promise.

{ He stares at that message for a good ten seconds after he sends it, before typing again. }

That said, Suigintou will never accept us leaving her in the inn all alone.

[Mavis smiles despite herself at that. She can already imagine the little doll's pout.]

She's free to come with us. As long as she doesn't leave black feathers everywhere.

I've tried everything to get her to stop doing that. I think we're just going to have to live with it.

{ Everything short of refusing to clean it up until Suigintou does it herself, of course, but he predicts that it would turn into a contest to see who blinked first until wherever they lived was so full of feathers that it would be dangerous to even walk in. }

Then it is settled. We'll move into Fairy Haven, together.

[Look! Mavis learnt to make smileys.]

Sounds good.

[There's a pause.]

Thank you, Zeref.

I'll see you in our room in a bit, then?

{ So he can see. It adds a cute, typically Mavis flair. Though, he does wonder where she picked that up. }

Yes. We'll pack together.

[By reading books, of course. She's been visiting all the main libraries in Genessia (including one in Nova City).]

I'm on my way.

{ When she arrives, she'll find their suitcases already out and opened, and Zeref beginning to gather his belongings. Front and center is a certain book that Zeref could not and would not leave behind, that he'd have to find a safe place to hide in Fairy Haven. He trusted Mavis around it; she'd been here with him all of this time and only asked about it in passing, without ever demanding more information than he was comfortable sharing about his crowning achievement as a mage.

He turns to face her as she entered. }

I've only been to Fairy Haven twice. It feels odd that I'll be living there, but...

{ He's happy about it. Like she said; it will just be the two of them. ~~And Suigintou.~~ }

[Shortly after arriving, Erza decides to check the communication device. It's pretty easy to get used to - really similar to a communication lacrima, surprisingly enough. She figures that she can't be the only one who wants to know more about their new situation, and she can save time by seeing what other people have to say about it.

Skimming through the video feed, she's surprised to see a familiar face on the screen. After watching the video, she knows that she has to act.]

[It takes a bit to figure out how to send a video, but once she does...] First? I just got here - where are you? [Well, Fairy Haven, obviously, but she has no idea where that is.]

[Dairine frowns a little at the update. Behind her is one of the bookshelves in Scribes and Scrolls which she had been filling with new content.]

I'm sorry to hear that so many have gone.

How are you holding up?

...Erza? [Mavis blinks.] Erza! You're back!

[She knows it's selfish of her to be happy about one of her guildmates' return but she can't help it.]

Just tell me where you are and I'll come to you. It shall be easier. [Since apparently Erza doesn't remember anything about this place or her last stay here.]

[Mavis bows her head in thanks.] Thank you. I really appreciate that. I know I'm hardly an exception, though. People disappear from this world every day. [But it's true that so many people from her own world disappearing back to back makes her feel rather lonely. So every little bit of sympathy helps.

She forces a smile on her lips.] I'll be okay. There's still someone from my world at least.

I'm sorry I can't seem to remember your name. Have we met before?

[And suddenly, Mavis notices the bookshelves behind Dairine.] You work in a Library? [If you were looking for a way to distract Mavis from her pain, Dairine, you just found one.]

[Mavis enters the room and smiles at Zeref. She knew him well. Once a decision had been made, he wasn't one to waste any time. So she wasn't surprised to find both suitcases already opened and waiting.

She brushes her arms against his as she walks by. It would seem to be a casual or even accidental gesture to most, but to Mavis it's anything but. The fact that they can touch each other, even briefly, shows how much more intimate they've become over the past months. They're comfortable around each other and they even exchange small displays of affection without dreading that one of them is going to die from it.]

If you had re-built in this world a replica of your castle in Alvarez and you'd asked me to come live there with you, you know I would have, too.

[She moves to Zeref's book and her finger brushes against its cover as well. She knows Zeref wouldn't let anyone touch that book ~~except for Mard Geer who held it for quite a while but is not here to tell the story anymore~~ but Mavis would protect this book as if it were the most precious one she owned. Speaking of which, this book, which happens to be Zeref's Christmas present to Mavis, is lying right next to the other one. She turns back to the Black Wizard with a smile.]

We should pack those two books together.

Back? [She shakes her head.] You can explain later; I'm in a cave that's partially flooded. If that projection was to be believed, everyone shows up here.

{ He managed to suppress a flinch as he felt her brush against him, but then quickly relaxes, letting out a sigh of contentment as she does. It's no secret that Zeref has issues with being close to anyone; after what happened in the past with Mavis, he never trusted himself to be close to anyone, physically or emotionally, ever again, and that included Larcade. But what she had said in the past was true; things were different here. There's no war, no Ankhseram. Even with their Curse, after how long they'd both been here, they were determined to try to have the life they never could in their own world. And slowly but surely, they've gotten closer, from living together, to little gestures like that. What was next? }

Have you seen the Palace in Vistarion? { Vistarion is a metropolis that dwarfs just about every city in Fiore and probably the rest of Ishgar. The Palace towers over the entire city and can be seen for miles in every direction. And for all of its opulence and oppressive, intimidating size - which was kind of the point - he only ever regularly spends time in maybe four rooms, when he's even in Alvarez at all. It likely took decades to build. } I would have liked nothing more, though.

{ As Mavis brushed her finger over E.N.D.'s book, he froze. Why was she--...? Does she know? If anyone was smart enough to put two and two together and figure who E.N.D. was, it was Mavis, but she had yet to mention it if she had. He didn't have long to ponder it, however, until Mavis motions to her own book, the one he had managed to find in Genessia City and bought for her as a present, next to it. When he bought it, he had no idea it was so significant to her; he just bought it because it was about fairies. }

... alright.

{ His answer was quiet, but there was no mistaking his expression. This really was happening, wasn't it? Often, he found himself wondering what might have happened had she not died nearly a century ago. Maybe now, he wouldn't have to. }

True, but that hardly devalues your own experience in the matter. [In her own experience, the disappearances of friends and acquaintances took quite a toll overtime.]

Good to hear you've got someone.

My name's Dairine Callahan. I think we may have talked before, but it's been a while so I'm not sure. I've heard of Fairy Tail though.

[Dairine glances at the books.]

Not quite. I work at Scribes and Scripts. Levy gave me her job when she left.

[She shook her head 'no'.] I've never seen it for real. But sometimes, it feels like I have. [A wink. Zeref told her so much about it, she's imagined herself walking with him down the corridors of his Palace more than once since they arrived in Genessia.] I would really like to go there with you sometime.

[She kept putting the few belongings she had in the suitcase. Her hand mirror with the Fairy Tail Guild crest on it. One or two spare dresses. Some new hairclips she bought. She looked back over her shoulder, feeling Zeref's gaze on her. First her expression was quizzical and then she blushed slightly. It was as if she could somehow tell what he was thinking right then. If nothing else, she knew it had to do with them being together in this world the way they wished they could have been back home.]

Don't let me do all the work.

[She looked away, trying to hide her blush and forcing herself to focus back on her task.]

[Mavis nods firmly.] I know exactly where it is.

[She starts running, keeping the feed on.] Hold on, Erza! I'll be right there.

[Soon enough some kind of portal appears on screen, the kind more commonly known as an 'archway' and in this case, the one which links Fayren to Genessia. Mavis checks she has her pendant around her neck before she steps through it.]

Well, just in case we heven't... [She bows respectfully.] It's nice to meet you, Miss Dairine.[]

Oh! You were a friend of Levy's? [Her expression lightens up at that.] I know that place. I thought about applying for a job there a while back but I wasn't sure you still needed help.

{ There was a time when he wanted nothing more than for her to come to Alvarez with him. Honestly, had that kiss not killed her, he imagines that was exactly what would have happened; Alvarez would have had an Empress, and the two of them working together could have found another way to stop Acnologia. Whether or not that's even still possible in their world wasn't even relevant to him, now. They were together here. They'd decided on that long ago, to try to live the life they never could, even before visiting the Dream Docks and learning that Zeref had finally decided to order Alvarez to invade Ishgar. They'd already agreed; no matter what they saw there, it wasn't going to change anything. }

Barring a way to create it with magic... a replica would take nearly a century to build, and tens of millions of red bills in materials and labor costs, not to mention the deforestation of a large part of Fayren's woods. { They wouldn't be building another Fairy Tail guild hall; they'd be building a colossal structure that is every bit as much of a secure palace for the sovereign ruler of the world's most powerful nation, every bit as much of a symbol of the Empire's power as it is of the Emperor himself, as much of a national monument as it is the seat of its power. } But if there's another way... I'd be happy to show it to you.

{ Maybe if a subarchway can open to their world... of course, the last time the possibility was brought up, it resulted in Lucy chewing Levy out for even considering it.

He watched as Mavis continued packing. They'd spend several months in this inn; the book he bought her as a gift, her purple dress, the black dress she wore when she said she went around referring to herself as 'Black Wizard Mavis' after he taught her and the rest of Fairy Tail's founders magic. In hindsight, that was particularly ironic in that it was almost prophetic, but none the less endearing to him. He didn't even tell her his name back then, but maybe she'd had her suspicions? }

Ahh... right, sorry.

{ Stop daydreaming. He shook his head, forcing himself back to reality, and moves to pack up what few belongings he had; a few changes of clothes, some books he'd bought on recommendation from Mavis and Sayla, a coat he'd bought during the particularly harsh winter a year ago, and of course, the gifts Mavis had bought him over the course of the last year.

He'd noticed that blush. He had to suppress one of his own. }

Okay - I'll wait here.

[Sticking to her word, Erza's still near the entrance to the Bay, browsing through the brochures and the map when Mavis shows up.] That was fast. The portal that you went through - did you make that? [She wouldn't put it past the First, all things considered.]

[There was nothing she'd have wanted more back then. And if it hadn't been for that kiss... Yet, as odd as it might sound, some part of her would never regret that kiss.

His explanation pulled her out of her own daydream. She just looked back at him once more and smiled softly at him.]

Then I guess I'll have to wait a while longer before I see it. But in the meantime, you can keep telling me about it.

[When her cheeks hag regained their usual color, Mavis glanced at Zeref as he started packing again. All those little things brought back memories of the past year. Fond memories. Like that scarf she'd knitted for him. It was pale blue and it was far from looking as neat as the pricy things he was used to wearing in Alvarez, but he wore it anyway.

She didn't know how long their stay in Genessia would last, nobody knew but... she was determined to keep their promise and cherish every moment they would be given.]
