24: Confusion (Anon Text Only for now)

I had imagined not taking vengeance for its own sake in order to help someone else would be a good thing. It should not feel horrible or like I did something wrong, and yet it still does.

I wish to ask what you would have done; if confronted with someone who brought you great harm in the past, one who you know had the capability of doing so again, would you be able to walk away? Would you be satisfied with it? Is it even right to let them be?

Mayhap it is a matter of scale. Or perhaps, mere uncertainty. Perhaps the grass is always greener on the other side.

The choice is a deeply personal one. You chose what most would call the "right" choice. That you regret isn't unreasonable at all. But, am I safe in assuming naught can be done now? No reversing a decision like that.

You are right about that much, at least I wish to say you are. I cannot change the past, nor am I sure I would want to even if I could. I just wish I could say it was right with confidence, because as it is now I cannot.

Call it a bit of the wisdom that I have learned; some choices, you'll always doubt. Overthinking them will only bring more pain.

Hm. Reasonable; vengeance can so easily turn criminal, after all, and if you'e an upstanding type... Well, best not to sacrifice that so casually.

Perhaps not in the heat of the moment, but it is worth keeping in mind. The law should never be underestimated.

I will be honest, the law was not even on my mind at the time. It might not occur to me should it happen again, or I suppose it would be more accurate to say that I might not care about what consequences my actions would bring.

Then the question I must ask is: Would you choose vengeance if there were no such opportunity cost?
