My name is Edward Nygma. I work for the hospital and Genessia Scientific Research Foundation. If you're new here, hello. The G.S.R.F. is dedicated towards finding out everything about where you are. How it works. You're welcome to ask any questions now or later.
To those who have been here a while and are more familiar with Doctor Olivia Moore, she is no longer with us. I'll be sure to follow up and continue any research she left behind.
While I'd love to discuss the interesting increase in barrier output, which you may or may not have noticed, I'm sure everyone's more than aware there's a certain situation on our hands concerning a highly irregular batch of chemicals that have no business in a water supply. I'll be leading efforts to create a cure. While Aster Technologies is highly cooperative, I imagine Seek was so easily singled out as the culprit because their team is almost elusively filled with engineers of the technological variety. Hiring him was a rather questionable move in the first place.
I ask that anyone involved in the manhunt inform myself and The G.S.R.F. directly if Doctor Seek states anything that may be of use upon his arrest or informative evidence is found. I have access to research notes left behind but they fail to provide enough information to create a permanent solution in a timely manner. Efforts to reverse his formula may take longer than desired without certain crucial information. But I'm confident in my abilities. A remedy will still be provided.
If anyone infected would like to stop by the laboratory at the hospital so I could perform a few short and simple tests, it would be greatly appreciated. I've also provided a questionnaire to gather more information. If you've been infected, have a look at it. If you have not been infected but suspect someone may have been, please contact me as I have a separate set of inquires.
[ the following is linked in a text document on the network after he finishes talking. ]
Any information provided will be used in research efforts.
You may turn it in privately. Confidentiality will be kept.
Please answer one or more of the following questions if you are displaying symptoms.
1. When did you last ingest water from Nova City?
2. When did you notice there had been a separation?
3. Have you experienced a separation of any kind before? Please be descriptive.
4. How would you describe your other half? Do you dislike them?
5. If given the option, would you remain separate?

What about second place? Surely someone with the most power has to be tolerable. [ Is it that Battler fellow? The reputation and past newspaper articles make it hard to guess otherwise. ] What do you think mine is?
[ Ed looks surprised and it's followed up immediately by him laughing. He laughs in manner that comes off highly amused at the very thought. Expression a tinge embarrassed. He looks down and shakes his head, pushing his glasses up by the side. ] What? Oh, heaven's no. That's a ridiculous notion. I highly doubt he would be interested in dating me.
I'm just cooking dinner for my roommate. I've already purchased everything and it regrettably doesn't go well with pancakes. I'd invite you but I'd rather you not have to deal with my other half being there.
private; action
Probably Weiss. Sure, she's a hypocrite and bossy and she treats me like shit--her bad side anyway--but you'd have to be intentionally ignorant to not see how much influence she has. And you don't want her to be the one to defeat you in a fight unless you want to screw yourself over.
[Yeah, he...looks kind of cross when Ed starts laughing.] Shut the fuck up, Neptune. Stupidfuckingsmartassholewhohappenstobeanoodle.
Nah. It's cool. I wouldn't want a third wheel at my dinner either, if I had dinner with other people. Who's your roommate?
private; action
She fights? With what? She seems so poised. I hadn't pictured her as a fighter.
[ He goes from laughing to raising an eyebrow and grinning in mild befuddlement ] I'm Ed, being a 'smart bean noodle' notwithstanding.
Technically, I'm being my own third wheel but that's a fair point. [ finger to lips ] That's a secret.
private; action
Yeah, we went to the same academy to train as huntresses and huntsman. Too bad everything went to shit. She uses Myrtenaster-- that's a Multi-Action Dust Rapier. I didn't picture you as someone capable of murder. Stereotyping is bad. She's actually a much better fighter than me. She's the one teaching me to fight right now, not the other way around.
[He just stares at Ed until realization dawns and he groans, hitting his face with his own gauntlet.] I meant Ed. Of course you are.
I kinda felt bad for your other half and then I realized I don't give a shit. [Scowls.] At least give me a hint.
private; action
So the dust is utilized with the blade? And presumably different kinds for it to be multi-action. How intriguing. Too bad it's hardly put in action where I can view it. [ a hand near his face, tipping to point at him ] I still never said I murdered anyone. [ he balls his hand a little idly moving his fingers around in thought ] Stereotyping is a horrid habit. My apologies. I never would have guessed she was a better fighter. How do you get these lessons done if she's so busy all the time?
[ a hum of acknowledgement ] I annoyed you enough to have you mistakenly call be by the name of some irritating person you know? What did I say wrong?
You keep reassuring me you don't give a shit. [ narrows his eyes slightly and that grin just gets wider ] A hint? What's black and white and red all over?
private; action
[Nods.] Weiss is the expert on Dust. If there's anyone who could provide you with extensive information on it, it's her. You know if you want to see her fight so badly you should just shadow her when she's off doing Guardian things. [Smirks.] But you helped me take care of a body. Wow, I almost feel like telling Weiss what you said about her. Maybe I'll rub it in her face. [He starts pacing, but he makes a face and leans against the counter in defeat.] Not that she'd care. She's so cold now. It's easy. We just almost never sleep. [Why did you think his skin was so dry and eyes were so red?]
You didn't say anything. Just... [He felt like a fucking idiot.] N-nevermind.
Because I don't. I might as well be holding up a neon poster advertising what little shits I give. A tuxedo covered in blood.
private; action
Perhaps I will ask her sometime. It isn't private knowledge, is it? Would she humor me if I asked to do that? [ taps his own nose once ] I did but it's not a crime the way I did it. It's not much to rub. [ he follows him with his eyes until he stops that pacing, reaching behind him to wheel a chair closer and sit in it ] You made it sound as if cold was a natural state for her. [ mild disapproving expression ] You shouldn't do that.
[ eyebrows up ] Just what? I'm curious now. I won't be offended.
Uh-huh. [ pause. delighted expression. the whole face lit up. ] You're not wrong.
private; action
Not really. On our world, Dust is a pretty prevalent weapon and energy source. The Weiss before she got split might have. I don't know about this one. But it couldn't hurt to ask. The worst she could do is slam a door in your face. [Scoffs, gesturing to him.] Assisting a known murderer is being an accessory to the crime. Are you insulting me or complimenting me? I can't tell. [He starts poking at an empty glass vial.] She--it is. But she's colder now. It's like standing in a fresh snowfall during autumn versus being stuck in a fucking ice field in nothing but a swimsuit and then being told by an angry instructor to go swim in the ice when in reality you can't swim in ice it's ice. Maybe. But I've gotten better a lot faster this way.
[He pauses, folding his arms and looking to the side.] You're not the one I'm worried about offending.
[His face is entirely impassive. He calmly states:] It's nice seeing you excited.
private; action
Where does it come from? Do you turn something into dust or is it already in that form? Hm. [ a door slam. been there. ] This is true. But you're not a murderer. There's simply no proof. I wonder. [ watching that vial. the little 'ding ding' from jaune poking at it and having it tilt slightly. ] That is cold. Is there no one else that could have taught you here?
Neptune isn't here. [ Juicy deets Jaune. Hand them over. ]
[ nice seeing him excit-- about riddles? his face goes a little flat..looking at jaune's for insincerity ] Is it? Usually I'm told to turn it down. [ Is this part of that game? ]
private; action
A lot of Dust is found in quarries and places like that. I don't know. Maybe if you had the right materials. It's a lot like finding other minerals or salt only this salt will electrocute you or cause an earthquake. Or both. True. I'm innocent as far as everyone else knows. [oh those are pretty chemicals. he reaches for the shiny chemicals.] There are, but no one else is as competent when it comes to Dust. And I don't want to listen to Blake's emo bitching. I'm pretty sure Yang knows as much about it as I do.
[he pretends to hang his head in defeat. ok, you convinced him.] He's a playboy. It's like you said before, Weiss has horrible judgment when it comes to choosing guys. Admittedly, he wasn't the worst, but I don't know what she saw in him. He's taller than me, and claims he likes libraries and he has stupid fucking blue hair that looks like he colored it with a bunch of markers. The cunt faced piece of shit turned Weiss down at the dance, and told me it was because he couldn't dance, so I felt sorry for his noodly ass and told him to make it up to her. He did. Only to flirt with girls explicitly not Weiss during the internationally broadcasted tournament. He's a fucking idiot.
[he's not being insincere. even if he wouldn't normally say anything.] Since when did you care what a bunch of dick sluts think? They're probably just jealous that they don't have the ability to figure them out.
private; action
I'd love to examine some of it. If you'd let me borrow a pinch. [ he holds two fingers close together. 'a pinch' ] You are innocent. [ The joke is that Jaune definitely didn't murder that guy. He's positive. ] More of your team?
[ He leans forward, listening intently ] You're right. He sounds like an idiot. [ Friends dislike people friends dislike. Right? ]
Jealous isn't the word I would use. Irritated to hear them in the first place, perhaps.
private; action
[He narrows his eyes warily, but shrugs and yields. Scientists.] Sure, why not? [He starts messing with some switches on the gauntlet he made himself, pulling out a vial of blue water Dust from a chamber somewhere below his elbow. He walks back over to Ed, holding it out for him to take.] I'm more innocent than a farmer who just wants to save all the bunnies. No. Classmates. Former ones.
Yeah but he has style so people can overlook what an idiot he is. [It feels nice to be validated though.]
Why would they be irritated? Are riddles some sort of taboo subject on your world? Did a riddle kill their mother?
private; action
[ Scientists that are Ed. ] Really? You're going to end up my favorite here if you're not careful, Jaune. [ Was he touching one of his chemicals a minute ago? Ed's counting with his eyes before he takes the blue water Dust. Holds it between two fingers and holds it close to his eyes, examining it with an awed interest. ] You did mention you wanted to save bunnies before. It seemed sincere at the time. Former classmates. Ah. You live with them?
[ He shoots Jaune a dull look over the Dust vial ] Style is more than just superficial appearance. It's in how you act. How you think. If you're an idiot, you have none.
They're not taboo. A lack of enthusiasm for the world that doesn't end at riddles? Too little patience? An irrational dislike of the person telling them? Frustration built up due to a simple mind? Built up sexual frustration making critical thinking difficult? Could have been a number of things. I don't dwell on it.
private; action
You mean I'm not already? I know where to get more. I can get other types too, but you'll have to request them ahead of time so I can get them when I need to restock. [He definitely pocketed something not meant to go anywhere near people.] That's more of the other guy. But I certainly don't want to hurt them. I guess you could say I don't care what happens to them. Live would be a pretty loose term, seeing as we almost never see eachother. [Shrugs.] Speaking of things unrelated, could any of this stuff be used for torture?
[He stares at Ed like he just realized something about him, looking both awed and impressed.] That's really deep.
For someone who supposedly doesn't dwell on it, you came up with a lot of explanations pretty fast. Are you saying sex makes you smarter?
private; action
It takes a little more to be my favorite. What about a sample of each kind? Would that be too much to ask? [ well. he'll consider this a trade and let it slide. he's got more. ] You claim you're indifferent. Would you say your heart is with your other half? Your ability to love? [ The roommate talk is interesting but nowhere near as interesting as the question. the look across ed's face can be described as sinful. his eyes go a little wide and he hadn't stopped smiling. all teeth. ] A piece of paper can be used for torture if you have creativity. Why do you ask?
[ Having someone look awed and impressed by things he says is such a happy thought ]
Not necessarily. It can improve cognitive function in certain cases but I was referencing how a certain lack for those particularly dependent on the activity can be a distraction from normal thought.
private; action
...It's not too much, but. I kind of want to know what you plan to do with them. And if it benefits me. I haven't lost my ability to love. I still care about people, just not enough to let them use me. [...he thought so. seeing this side of ed doesn't leave him afraid as it would his other half. he feels a surge of adrenaline, his own eyes seeming to burn with a blue fire for just a split second before he tries to play it off and shrug.] I guess, but I was hoping for something more impressive than paper. It's just... I think it would be cathartic for me.
What if, hypothetically, you've never had it. Would you know whether or not you're dependent on it? Theoretically.
private; action
I only want to study. Know how it works. I'm sure the benefit may be that I could help you utilize it in ways I'm sure Miss Schnee hasn't thought of yet. [ interesting how this is likely what jaune considers the "negative" aspects. he knows he's the "positive" half, himself. ed looks like every little light went on. he's excited. far more so than when jaune simply solved his riddle before. ] It can be cathartic. What did you have in mind? There's a lot of options.
Theoretically, no. A tell may be if you're particularly obsessed with the idea, however.
private; action
No offense, but you do seem more creative than Weiss. At least when it comes to this. [Weiss can be creative too, both in her strategies and her musical side. Ed's excitement is contagious. Jaune is grinning like an eager puppy.] Preferably something slow--like it won't kill you--but unbearably painful at the same time.
Oh. I don't think I'm obsessed. Are you? No. You're too smart to be. But what if you're some kind of genius with it, I mean you're a genius now but I mean what if your mind is too powerful for this place to contain and somehow you end up destroying the world with sex. That would be such a bad way for everyone to go.
private; action
Creativity can be beneficial when it comes to new ideas. [ he puts his hands together and turns swiftly, on the balls of his feet - without looking away from jaune towards a wall covered in cabinets and drawers in the room and closes the distance to it sliding open a drawer of various medical tools all neatly arranged ] All you have to do is take your time and avoid vitals. Your choices of tools should all depend on where and how deeply you want to hurt. If you want to hear screaming. If you want to see blood.
[ looking over his shoulder at him ] Oh my. Why would that be a bad way to go if I was that good at it?
private; action
[He wishes he could do what Ed is doing without bumping into things and breaking them because he's not looking...] Do you have one of those human body maps? I suck at anatomy. I want her to scream until she can't because her throat is too raw to do so.
Huh. I guess it wouldn't be that bad. They should be thanking you.
private; action
Oh, there's plenty of maps. But not in here. I don't need them. There's one on the wall in the hall. Just yank it off when you leave. No one will notice.
Would you thank me? [ FLIRTING GAME ROUND 3. ]
private; action
Looks like we've got a genius here. If I'm going to steal it I might as well go all out and steal one of those life-sized human models.
I mean I'd be dead, but sure. I'd thank you in my heart.
private; action
Like that one. [ point. he's got one in the corner of the room ] I could show you where it'll hurt, if you'd like.
I'd try not to kill you. I like you.
private; action
Wow. You're so helpful. Just like that one!
[Well. Shit. Fidgets in place awkwardly, looking to the side.] Right back at you.
private; action
[ holding a pencil out at him ] Show me where you'd stab this on it. Go on.
[ a cheeky grin ] Thank you.
