13th Aura | Action
[Action | Genessia Hospital]
[At some point, Jaune managed to convince the hospital staff to allow him to be unrestrained once he proved himself to be cured and not prone to violence like his worse half. By now, the wounds on his shoulders have been stitched up, but he's sporting something other than sutures on his neck: a small WS is scrawled in sharpie on the wound that's begun to scar over. Despite his healing speed, they insisted he remain under observation for 24 hours, which is just depressing when he re-discovers hospital food. Which are actually hospital liquids. He might seem disappointed by the lack of chicken nuggets, but he's mostly preoccupied by the severity of what happened and almost happened.
All the people he hurt, many of them who he cared about deeply.
He'll keep poking at the sustenance without eating it until he finally gets up to try and escape for a little while.]
[Action | Genessia Hospital Lab]
[Okay so the food sucks.
And as awkward as it is, Ed is one of the few people he doesn't feel ashamed to look in the eye.
Ed is his friend and Ed means pizza.
Jaune is navigating through the corridors to find Ed. Where was his lab again? He distinctively remembers a drink machine being nearby.]
[Action | The Next Day, various locations around Nova City.]
[Jaune was allowed to leave after being given specific instructions, and right now he's walking his pet white golden retriever, Snow, to gather his thoughts on how to approach it. His favorite hoodie was ruined in the fight against Emerald. That's okay. He can always get a new one. If being split into two extremes made him realize anything, it was that for all this time, he hadn't been moving forward. He was just as stuck as he had been for half a year. His negative side had seemed to realize that more than his positive did. Moving forward wasn't as simple as making a decision and sticking with it, but he was acknowledging it. There's still a lot of damage left to repair with his friends, acquaintances, even some enemies. That's one step he can take right now. The next step is one he's impatient to get started on, but it will have to wait.]

Thank you. [ he smiles, lowering his head just a little. jaune's so genuine about things sometimes. it's nice to hear. he makes no assumptions this is part of that odd flirting game. just being nice. ] Of course.
[ ed moves closer to him, tipping his head and leaning to look at his neck a little before straightening out. just checking again. he MAY have read his charts and everything when he wasn't supposed to ] How badly did that hurt? And I knew. It was obvious the body was attacked with methods outside your abilities. For instance, you lack large claws capable of causing the same lacerations.
action; hospital lab
I should be the one thanking you. [ed was kind to him. he didn't treat him like he was an idiot or a joke. he actually took what he said seriously, and not in a "aw he tries so hard" kind of way. even if he wasn't fully himself, it still means a lot to him.]
[it's still swollen, and an angry pink color. fortunately, it's no longer bleeding, but he has to be really, really careful. he slept through the worst of it and that helped his aura recharge faster and help speed up the process. however, his aura didn't kick in fast enough. it's probably still going to scar. he keeps his eyes on the ceiling for a moment.] It hurt like heck. But I was so angry when it happened that it was just a blur. My shoulders were hurting worse. Hey, I could buy claws. Or have hidden ones. You don't know my life.
action; hospital lab
Then you're welcome. [ you're welcome for me.
still, the speed of recovery is certainly above anything ed's seen so far. it's always such a fascinating experience to see the claim backed up. aura's are intriguing. it means people are hard to hurt but that means everyone where jaune's from has to hit harder. does hit harder. hmm. ] I can't say for certain if this is a proper recovery speed for you but it is remarkably fast. The doctor's here leave... something to be desired. So this is your doing. [ do you mind if he touches your neck? too late to answer he already ran a finger over the spot. feather light. ] Any lasting damage should be on a superficial level but you're going to have to deal with the pain for a bit longer, unfortunately. Are your shoulders still giving you trouble? [ gives him a little look ] Do you often buy claws and frame your crime scenes like animal attacks?
action; hospital lab
Me neither. Usually I don't let myself get hurt. Do they? Yeah. I've been told I have a lot of it. [he tries not to flinch.] I thought so. It's fine. I deserve this. No. They're okay now. [lying as usual.] Maybe I buy a lot of things. I might have even bought a dead body to frame that dead body as the murderer of another dead body.
action; hospital lab
You're far too accepting of the idea that you 'deserve' a scar for something. That isn't a thing you deserve. It rarely ever should be. Really? They're fine? [ pokes him in the shoulder a lot less lightly than jaune probably expects him to. don't lie to him. ] Where did you purchase a fresh corpse?
action; hospital lab
I was going to murder her, she defended herself. She didn't have to let me live, but she made that decision. ...It's just a scar. They're--Ah. [he sucks in a deep breath, biting his lip. he might have whimpered a little.] Why would you do that?! I can't tell you. My corpse provider wouldn't be very happy with me.
action; hospital lab
But did she deserve it more? One has to wonder. It's not just a scar. It's a visual reminder of what happened that you're going to see every day. [ he retracted his hand quickly, holding it in a fist against his own chest ] Do what? That shouldn't have hurt if your claim is true. What if I need a corpse?
action; hospital lab
[his response is abrupt.] No. Yes--I... I don't know. I can't think that way. [He pinches the bridge of his nose.] Maybe, but it kind of looks cool. Now I can be called a true huntsman. You jabbed me in the shoulder. Of course it hurts. It would hurt anyone with your slender narrow pasta fingers. Go make your own.
action; hospital lab
You won't think of it that way. [ tipping his head to one side ] Ah. That belief that one requires scars to be a true fighter. But wouldn't someone who has never been hit be a better one? It's good you're thinking of this positively, I suppose. [ holds his hands in front of his face with his fingers spread out. pasta fingers? he drops them a second later. ] You're exaggerating my poking ability due to your shoulder injury. [ hand on chest, faking surprise ] Make one?
action; hospital lab
How do you know? [looking down. suddenly the chips are a lot more interesting.] That person doesn't exist. Yeah. Positively. [glances back up, narrowing his eyes critically.] No, I'm not. You're just desensitized to them so you don't know how sharp they are. Yeah. You know. Like a...fake one. Completely fake.
action; hospital lab
You could think of it that way but you're refusing to. You don't want to think about it at all. [ these pretzels are making me thirsty ] No undefeated champions? [ making a bit of a face ] They're not that sharp. A fake corpse? But you got a real one.
action; hospital lab
You're right. I don't want to think about it. But it's still there. I still kind of regret not going through with it and that-- I think I could try again. [wow. no winefeld references here.] Do you think anyone's invincible like that? Oh yeah? [without any warning he tries jabbing ed in the shoulder.] Lucky me. I guess you'll have to settle for second best.
action; hospital lab
So you think she deserved it. You shouldn't think you deserve a scar then. [ winefeld... ] No, not invincible. Just careful. Yeah- [ jabbed. eyebrows up. ] What? Don't do it back. You're going to keep going with this bold lie, aren't you?
action; hospital lab
What I think is that it's more complicated than one side being fully in the right and the other in the wrong. And I can't pretend that it wasn't me that did that. Careful. But not human. No one can avoid making mistakes. [jabs again.] Why not? It's all therapeutic and everything. It's not a lie. Are you jealous?
action; hospital lab
That is true. The morally grey area still brings to question wither or not a punishment is considered just. It's a fascinating moral conundrum. You are both in the wrong but also in the right on some level. It's all a matter of opinion your opinion at this point. If you decide on one, I'd be interested in hearing it. I don't think that's true. [ swats his hand away lightly ] Because I don't find it therapeutic for me. [ looking up at the ceiling, sighing ] No. I'm not jealous of your fictional corpse store. It's a lie.
action; hospital lab
Okay, so say I went through with it. It's one thing to murder Emerald, wrong or not she wasn't an innocent person in any of this. But what's stopping me from going after innocent people? Where does it end? Do you believe people can change? [stops and stares down before slowly trying to poke him in the leg. exaggerated, affronted gasp. or a bad attempt at one.] I would never lie! What is therapeutic for you?
action; hospital lab
What would be stopping you is the reason you do it, if you stop yourself at all. Do you enjoy hurting people or just ones that have wronged you? People can change. But sometimes it's unnecessary for them to. [ ed's watching him do it. reach out. go to poke him. he pokes the hand jaune's using before it reaches him. ] There's another lie. Do you not trust me with the information that you're completely innocent of murder? [ he pauses, adjusting his glasses from the side ] Puzzles. Tea. Smells. Video games.
action; hospital lab
I-- I don't know. Just the ones who have wronged me? [scowls, messing with his hair as he talks.] I don't know, Ed. That's what I want to say. I don't particularly feel happy when I see random people on the street get hurt. What about people who've hurt you? Can they change? [reaches to try and grab his hand when he does that.] I trust you. But you're wrong. I like video games. And the smell of tea. I don't like the taste but it smells nice. Kinda soothing and stuff.
action; hospital lab
But do you feel sorry for them? The people who have hurt me can not change, no. They're unwilling to. [ what are you going to do with that hand now that you grabbed it? ed's just watching him carefully and making no effort to pull back. ] I'm not. Prove it. [ there's that grin again. ] And stuff, yes.
action; hospital lab
I did. Part of me does. The part you didn't meet. I want to help them. Then maybe it's those people who deserve it. Are they here? [it feels so strange to not wear gloves when you normally do. usually, he doesn't know when he'll need to fight, just that he probably will. but he can't wear his gloves right now because SOMEONE took them and who knows where they are so he uses the opportunity to feel the texture of ed's skin, threading his awkwardly larger fingers with ed's pointy ones. they're not that pointy.
they're a little pointy.] Yes, you are. Which part? You smell nice too.
action; hospital lab
We didn't get to introduce the other halves. We should remember to do that if another rather awful situation like that occurs again. We could always intentionally do so, seeing how I have both the serum and the cure in my possession now. And an alternative one suppressing a side that I made with no intention of actually delivering. [ he looks at jaune at the question, having looked down at their hands while he was speaking.
eyes cutting back to him quickly. ] No. Yes. Well. [ a huff ] It's not someone to discuss. [ ed's wondering why is jaune examining his hands? does he need them for something? jaune's are rough in comparison. shorter. ]
I'm rarely wrong. Prove that I'm wrong. [ ? ] Like tea?
action; hospital lab
Yeah. I'm sure I'll remember that when I'm freaking out--or he's freaking out--part of me's freaking out. You know what? Sounds good. [looks mildly disturbed.] Why would you make it if you weren't going to use it? I don't think I'd be able to agree to take the cure again. And injured or not, you couldn't stop me.
[he rotates his wrist a little, squeezing his hand once. ed's nails are clean and smooth. his hands are a bit dry, but they're cool to the touch.] Do you play? All I'm saying is if someone hurt you I'd hurt them back. Or make their life a living...not good place. Whichever's worse.
I'd rather not. Please. Besides, doesn't science only work by letting me disprove you? Not prove you. Like tea. And kind of like honey but also...clean. Like when it's raining and there's lightning but it's not a lot of lightning, it's just there because it's so excited that it's raining and it can't contain all its energy and it's really fast and smart.
action; hospital lab
Great. [ he's flexing his free hand and looking at him like the question was an odd one. ] It was a challenge. I did it to see if I could. That's fine. I'd rather you be thinking with both aspects.
[ ? ] Piano? Yes. [ ed's examining his face. looking for tells. wondering how he managed to get that willingness out of him. ] I see. I appreciate that.
That is not how science works. [ looking somewhat baffled by the description then highly amused ] Are you comparing me to a lightning storm?
action; hospital lab
[watching his hands, then his mouth.] But now it exists. What if someone uses it for the wrong reason? Me too. You too. I like all of you, Ed.
I thought so. The pointy sharpness of your hands is perfect for jabbing musical keys. [he's not lying. if anything, he's speaking with the same stern sense of justice he does when someone threatens his friends.] Thanks for not calling me crazy.
Well, I'm not the science person, am I? I've never scienced in my life. You're the science specialist. [smiles self-consciously.] Lightning storms are amazing. You're amazing.
action; hospital lab
[ holds a finger up and taps the side of his head with it ] But they would have to steal it from me to do that. It's not likely anyone would be able to. I wouldn't concern yourself. We're the only ones that know it exists at all. [ all of ed? that gets another one of those smiles out of him. he ducks his head a little. like he's embarrassed. ]
You think they're sharp? [ oop. smile gone. thinking about this. and then he looks at him dead serious, offended tone with a hint of being annoyed it even came up. at the thought he has to be concerned someone would call him crazy. he says it so quickly. immediate dismissal. ] I would never do that.
Is scienced a word where you're from? [ goes back to ducking his head and looking elsewhere. clears his throat. what are these compliments? ] Oh.
