Thirteenth Reel: Assessing
[Text]
The City of Everglade is now taking applications for a Deputy Guardian Position. Those with an interest must have an interview with the current City Guardian. Please contact Grell Sutcliff to schedule an interview time at your earliest convenience or if there are inquiries. |
[Action: Nova City & Everglade]
[In Nova City, Grell takes the opportunity to walk her dog in the mostly steel jungle. Although it seems like it's more her dog walking her. Grell is window shopping, and from time to time, she stops in front of a shop to admire a few luxury items. A nice necklace or bag. At this particular time, she spots a lovely red pair of leather boots that come up to past the knees. Whipping out her phone, she snaps a picture for viewing later on, but she gives a wistful sigh.]
Aren't they lovely, Copper?
[Looking to her dog for an answer, she's met with what may be skepticism.]
Everyone's a critic. [She reaches down and examines his collar.] You could do with a new collar, however.
[She makes sure to give him a few scritches on either side of his head, earning a far less skeptic expression, before continuing on their walk.
Until she almost bumps into someone else.]
Oh! Pardon me!
[She might take it back, depending on who she bumped into.]
___________
[In Everglade, Grell is overseeing work done on the shelter during the daytime, which is almost completely built. The interior and exterior are coming along nicely, but with their current budget, they wouldn't be able to open until they got furnishings and supplies ready for use.
At night, she's patrolling the streets, occasionally breaking up a fight or two along the way. One particular fight was a small crowd gathering upon a few people that appeared human. Grell made sure that the crowd dispersed after letting them know that such nonsense wouldn't be tolerated under her watch, and that they'd better return home or she'd give them all a trip to the hospital, or worse.
Making sure that the parties parted ways in different directions, Grell remained where she is, accessing what just happened. The non-humans were getting bolder, which is good, in her opinion, but she doesn't want the public to think such behavior is alright.
At least not in front of her.]

I wasn't looking where I was going...

Is there some sort of convention going on today?
[At least Grell knew about cosplay...]

[He doesn't get what she may mean. This is his usual attire, after all.]
no subject
An event where people gather and dress up as various characters they admire from different forms of media.
no subject
Dress up? This is just what I always wear.
[Well, when he's given a choice anyway. Sometimes other outfits were necessary.]

[There was a voice that came from above Grell, atop a street lamp where Liam was currently sitting with his legs folded. While it looked like he was sitting on the lamp, he was actually sitting on a shadow he twisted to make an adequate seat.]
I'm sure it's safe to assume that nothing worthy of note happened in this place since my previous departure.
no subject
That depends on what you remember about last time.

[All he sees are either humans attacking monsters, or monsters attacking humans. But perhaps he's jaded enough from his old age that he never expects this sort of feud to end.]
But it seems I returned here after a changing of the guard. Perhaps there is something that I may have overlooked.
no subject
[It's basically all of history painted with a new coat every so often.]
I'd be happy to fill in the gaps for you, if you have actual questions to ask.

action; nova city
[ A hand goes out, just to make sure balance wasn't lost on her end. Is it possible to look too happy someone almost walked right into you? If it is, Ed's achieving it once he caught on to who it was. He goes from slight surprise to smiling at her to looking outright delighted there's a dog here too. ]
Guardian Sutcliff. Always a pleasure.
Re: action; nova city
Mister Nygma. Always, indeed! [She fixes her balance with his help and smiles to him.] What brings you about these parts?
action; nova city
Video games. I just love them. The challenges presented by certain ones. Visual puzzles. It's my day off and Nova's the only place you can find them. Ones of a certain quality, anyway. The technology here is fascinating. [ He points down at the dog. ] May I pet your dog?
action; nova city
Have you tried that candy game? It's not too challenging, but lovely to play when you want to unwind from a long day.
[At the question, everything starts to click in her head. A dog person...she wouldn't have thought that.]
Yes, but he is a bit apprehensive with strangers. You might not want to make sudden movements.

Action, Nova City
That's alright. No harm done.
[He smiles; very white teeth, white hair, olive skin, and eyes the aquamarine color of clean, shallow sea water. Pity he's wearing such an outlandish getup, but then, it's to keep from melting people, so maybe that can be forgiven.]
Action, Nova City
What's your secret to such a lovely complexion?
no subject
If you'll pardon the cliche, clean living and good genes; you appear to have gotten a good dose of both, yourself. [Nope, no actual deities here. Move along.] What brings you to Nova City, Guardian Sutcliff? [Aside from dog-walking and window shopping, that is.]
no subject
My thanks. I do try, but it pales in comparison to your glowing skin.
[Shamelessly making all the puns...]
Copper and I are having a bit of an outing. Being a guardian keeps me busy, but I can't neglect his up keeping.
[Action: Nova City]
I do wish people would look down once in a while!
no subject
As for Grell, the response she received after bumping into the woman riles up a sass-filled reply.]
Perhaps most would need a reason to look down in the first place.
[Being short isn't reason enough, especially since she wears heels after already being tall. Looking down isn't a priority when you're not sorry about stepping on people.]
no subject
They should! It could be hazardous to their health...
no subject
I'd love to see that.
[Something tells her that the small package has a lot stored inside.]
How many have you sent to the doctor?

Combat skills are a plus, but not everyone needs physical combat to get the job done. You'll have to look the part, as well.
[Which is entirely subjective to her own tastes.]
But most importantly, you'll be dealing with me on a regular basis, so you'd better be prepared for that.
[Meaning she's a Difficult Person to deal with, but at least she's giving a fair warning.]
The judge gave me a very funny look when she saw the paperwork, but it was all in order.
[ Ba dum tish? ]
So what job needs to be done, exactly? I'm no Bruce Lee, but I have access to 'defensive and combative charms' now.

Currently, Deputy Guardians patrol the city, report to the City Guardian as needed, and may be put in charge of certain sectors, but I have yet to divide them up.
Overall, if you can survive a week in Everglade at night, then you'll be fine.
