[Action] That Sinking Feeling
Who: Erza and Soma
Where: Fayren City streets
When: February 28th - late at night
What: Erza's going out bounty hunting, but things don't go quite as planned; Soma intervenes.
Warnings: Mild violence.
Erza's eager to go out and hunt down criminals - it seems like the best way to establish Fairy Tail's reputation in this place. Unfortunately, the bounty that she took doesn't have much to go on; nobody had seen the mage in question and lived to tell about it, given his tendency to kill the people who he robbed.
Still, it wasn't that difficult to find the locations where prior robberies had occurred. While the damage had been magically fixed after the bodies had been recovered and potential witnesses were questioned, people tended to not forget seeing quicksand pits in the city. Most of the robberies, somewhat predictably, happened in alleys or isolated streets, so Erza decides to stick to the rooftops (figuring that they're the best vantage point, though the fact that she'll stick out like a sore thumb up there doesn't occur to her) and wait.
With the moon high in the sky, Erza is about to move on to another area to continue her search when she hears a piercing shriek. It's brief, but enough for Erza to go on. After hopping over a few rooftops, she seems to spot who she's looking for - a couple, gagged with what appears to be hardened mud or clay, and a man who would be nondescript if not for his hair, which looks like an octopus is resting on his head.
"Halt!" Erza leaps from the roof, landing between the couple and the thief, who was clutching what he had taken from them. Not being particularly good with following instructions, the thief takes off running. With a wave of his hand, a stone wall rises out of the ground behind him, trapping Erza and the victims in the alley.
"Don't worry, I'll stop him." Erza summons a sword with a watery blade to her hand. It only takes a few moments of being submerged in the water to dissolve the gags, which only leaves the problem of the wall. Erza stares at it, contemplating what to do...
...only to burst through it moments later, clad in gold armour with massive shoulder-pads. "GET BACK HERE!" The thief is much further down the street, still clutching his ill-gotten gains and running as fast as his legs can carry him. Grimacing, Erza gives chase, though given how loud the destruction of the stone wall was, she probably won't be the only one.

And then he heard the shriek, quickly cut off, followed not too long after by the sounds of a chase. Sighing for the loss of his pleasant high, he triggers his poison resistance, forcing himself to stone-cold sober in an instant, then sets off in the direction of the running. Luckily, cobblestone streets do not make for quiet footfalls.
As he gains, he sees first the pursuer, in her oversized golden armor. One thing he's relatively sure of - no thief is going to go about in armor like that. Which makes the nondescript person she's chasing the culprit. Didn't the bounty section in the paper mention someone like that on the loose? Something about...
Earth control. Right. So that explains the wall he just ran into, that wasn't there a second before. Okay. Now he's personally invested in this. Time to turn up the heat.
A black-and-white meteor begins to hurtle down the street, dodging obstructions, pedestrians, and women in golden armor. Sometimes by the simple expedient of jumping over their heads. Considering that he's now moving at somewhere upwards of 60 mph thanks to Black Panther, it really doesn't take Soma long to overtake and then pass the fleeing criminal.

...And then a black and while blur zooms past him, coming to a stop in front of him. Shrieking, he decides to double back - maybe he can duck down an alleyway and escape there.
He turns around, only to find the red haired woman now wearing a skimpy cheetah themed armour and rapidly gaining on him. With nowhere else to turn, he's quickly trapped between his two pursuers. "...I know what this looks like, but I swear I was framed." He's nervous, but keeping an eye out for escape routes.
Erza glares at the thief, sword in hand in case he tries to use magic again. "I caught him using earth magic to rob a couple; he has to be the one that was talked about in the Tribune."

"You wanna do this the easy way or the hard way, kid? Because frankly, I'm not liking your chances."
Just in case he decides to make a fight of it, Soma has some special surprises in store - including a soul that enables him to move freely through sand and mud. He's faced quicksand before.

Erza holds up her swords in a defensive position, preparing to block an attack, but it never comes. When the dust clears, she's up to her ankles in quicksand and the thief is running for it. Growling, Erza switches armours again, winding up in something slightly more conservative. "This is just getting annoying..."
The quicksand doesn't seem to be especially deep, given how hastily-made it was, so this armour should give her more than enough strength to escape. "Need help?"

"So. One fugitive earth mage, on the run. Two bounty hunters, standing back and watching, and discussing tactics. Do you think he has any idea how badly this is going to hurt?" Now, at least, her armor looks like something he's used to, even if it's still a bit more revealing than he's really used to.
"Should we disabuse him of the notion that he's getting away, you think?"
no subject
"Let's teach him about just how wrong he is." The thief is still running away, overconfident enough that he's not even bothering to look back. A quick change back to the speed-boosting leopard print "armour", and Erza's dashing towards the criminal again. This time, she's just planning to knock him out right away and get it over with - he's a threat if he gets the drop on people, especially those who can't fight back, but compared to the dark mages she's beaten back home, he's nothing special.

"...Definitely need to ask how she does that later." Even as he muses to himself, he's following at speed, Black Panther once more giving him the ability to move at speeds well in excess of anything the human body is supposed to be capable of. Certainly fast enough to catch their target.
"Now, I believe we were in the middle of something before you so rudely interrupted? Ah, right." And he draws a rather large sword from... somewhere in the recesses of his coat. Certainly nowhere that should have been large enough to contain it - but then, Erza sees people do that all the time, back home. Does it herself, in fact. The trick's rather less impressive when you know how it's done. "I believe this is where we tell you that running won't help, though you're an even larger fool than I took you for if you haven't figured that out already..."

Sighing, Erza summons ropes from the dimension that her weapons come from, bending down to tie up the rogue mage. "I don't think I could put up with him for too much longer. I'll take him to the authorities; they can handle it from here." She looks up at Soma once she finishes binding his arms. "By the way, I'm Erza Scarlet of the Fairy Tail guild - thanks for the help."

Once they've finished trussing up the bounty, he makes a few gestures - enacting a seal on the mage's power. Not a terribly high level one, but strong enough to handle this guy. One more level of certainty that he won't be getting away.

"Back home, we're bounty hunters, but we're like one big family. A rowdy one, at times, but everyone has each other's backs. We've even got a branch set up here!" She pauses, thinking about the guild back home; compared to that, the guild here is practically barren. Still, she has hope that in time, it will either fill up or they'll be send home. Even inter-dimensional barriers can't keep members of Fairy Tail apart for long - they'll find a way to destroy them somehow.
"...It's just me and the First Master, Mavis, at the moment, but I've been told that others have been here previously. Don't know if you've been here long, but if you've been here at the same time as Natsu, you'd know it. He tends to stand out." And breathe fire, and destroy buildings...

"I don't think I've ever met or heard of anyone by that name; I've been here a while, but I haven't really met many people at all, to be honest." Old habits die hard.
no subject
"Really? Well, if you ever see anyone with this guild mark..." She points to the tattoo on her arm. "...we've got a guild set up in Fayren, so feel free to send them there."
