[Video]

[The feed comes to life, revealing a young man with a shock of red hair, blue eyes, and two very visible scars on his cheeks. He may look like something of a ruffian, but to those with a good read on people, his eyes betray forthrightness.]

So, I'll cut to the chase. The name's Adell, and I'm looking for work. I've been here for a couple of days, getting used to the whole thing, and... I think it's time I set my mind to something. Good recommendations for honest work are welcome. For those wondering what I'm good at, back home my title was Demon Hunter... so I'm good in a fight. I'm pretty strong too, so work requiring physical activity are fine. I'm not a mage, but magic and supernatural stuff are nothing strange to me. I'm pretty good at puzzles too. And... well, I do know a thing or two about farming, I guess. And I'm plenty willing to learn how to do other stuff and skills too.

...Another thing, does stuff like these eggs happen often around here? Because I thought the Netherworld was weird enough.

[Sharp eyed individuals might be able to see Adell's egg in the background with a blanket wrapped around it and kept by a light for extra warmth. Seems like he's chosen to take care of it.]

A Demon Hunter?

[He nodded.]

That's right. I spent a lot of time taking care of demons who threatened my hometown or the surrounding areas. Sometimes even when they threatened other demons too.

[ She has the passing thought of "Where were you when we were fighting Beast Fiends?" ]

Sounds like a very involved job. [ What with the demons everywhere. ]

It kept me busy. Between that and trying to get rid of the demon Overlord who cursed Veldime, I spent a lot of time fighting and training.

Seems weird to be here and be looking for a regular job.

[ Boy, isn't that the truth. She nods in agreement, resisting the urge to say "got that right." ]

It really is. Civilian society isn't exactly something I thought I'd have to integrate with.

[A nod from him.]

It's kinda what I'd been aiming for, but it's... strange to have it now. I'm still reserving judgment on it, though.

[Part of him feels like he's going to miss the excitement of going out and doing battle against demons and monsters. If nothing else, it was really exciting and got the blood moving like nothing else.]

Sounds like you've seen your fair share of action, too. What did you used to do before you came here?

[ Ohhh boy, how can she succinctly describe all of what happened? That's the true question. ]

...tried to save the world.

[ Beat ]

Despite how it sounds, it's true.

[He smiles, and even laughs lightly. It wasn't that what she said was funny, just... more that he certainly was in no position to judge. Not that he would.]

Doesn't sound strange to me. I believe you. Doing that probably didn't leave much time for anything else.

[ He's dead on about that. More than he has any right to be. She's even tempted to call it the understatement of the year. ]

[A sobering statement, in a way, but one he can definitely understand. Though he was lucky enough to have a family to go back to and have the time for occasional rest, he knew very well that was a luxury. He had felt pressure to destroy the Overlord's Curse, especially toward the end, but... not every waking hour of the day was devoted to that pursuit until then.]

Probably not. I hope you succeeded before you ended up here, though...

[He doesn't want to think further about how much stress that'd cause. That idea had already crossed his own mind about Veldime, and he knew very well how much that would affect him.]

We did, thankfully. So I can be here without regrets.

[ Without too many of them, that is. There's still a lot she wishes she could do back home, but as long as the biggest loose end is tied up nicely, the only way she can keep moving is forward. ]

I'm glad to hear that. Fortunately, me and my friends got rid of the Overlord that cursed my homeland before I ended up here too.

Good thing, too. I'm pretty sure I'd be one of those people demanding a way to be sent home right now if he was still running around.

[At least he was self-aware about it, if nothing else.]

It's good to be free of those kinds of restraints. Even if you don't know what to do with such newfound freedom.

The place is full of all kinds of weird shit like turnin' people into monsters, but the egg thing's pretty new. Can't say we've got that one figured out quite yet.

[But he's expecting something terrible to happen.]

I run two clubs 'round these parts that could use new staff. But otherwise it's not hard to find somethin' to do around here in the long term. Just don't expect it to be as exciting as your life at home.

People turning into monsters? What caused that? Some kind of curse?

[That first thing definitely caught his interest, and hard.]

And I had a feeling it wouldn't be terribly exciting around here if it's mostly peaceful. Wouldn't mind a bit of a break. What kind of clubs are they?

"Curse" was probably the only way to put it. Didn't last for long, but it sure turned some lives upside-down. Bein' an incubus for like a week was kinda fun though.

[But harassing people in their dreams was a funny concept to him.]

Night clubs. Dancing, booze, bizarre drunks, that kinda thing. The latter of which is uncommon enough, at least as far as the 'bizarre' goes.

[He's still trying to figure out why they were so busy on the 17th.]

At least it only lasted a week. My entire world was put under a curse like that for fifteen years. Turned everyone into demons but me, and drained their memories too. Not much fun about that.

...Still, I've never actually been to a night club. Didn't really have 'em where I lived back home.

Huh. That's rough. [Not really sure what to say beyond that.] Demons are extinct where I come from.

[He shrugs.]

You can check 'em out if you want. Won't break my heart if you say no.

Name's Gale, by the way.

[Extinct, huh? Well, depending on what kinda demons they were, that might be for the best. He figured from what he saw that so many worlds were different that it'd be hard to say what demons might be like elsewhere.]

Good to meet you, Gale. What's the name of your clubs anyway? I'll probably check them out soon, see what they're like. Seems like a good place to start.

I got Hangar Queen in Genessia City, and After Life in Nova City. Both are open 24 hours, so stop by whenever you want. I'll send over the coordinates for both. Hangar Queen staff has a uniform requirement, so heads up on that. After Life has no such regulations though.

[He'll leave out the part where staff has to put up with terrible puns on a nearly daily basis. He wants to let them learn that one on their own.]

I appreciate it, thanks. What sort of uniform requirements? Like wearing a suit, or something?

Oooone moment. [He turns the camera away from him and to his closet, where a blue uniform jacket was hanging.]

That one right up front there. Custom tailored for each employee and everything.

[Well, that's something, all right. It's very... strange looking, to him. But not in a bad way, at least. He just wasn't sure he could ever see himself wearing it.]

Huh. Never seen an outfit like that one before. Does it have a significance?

Nah. Hangar Queen's got a military theme to go with the name, so it's just a uniform.

[Based on the uniforms he's seen at home, sure, but still a uniform.]

It's pretty cool though, I'll give you that. Veldime doesn't have a military, really, so we don't have anything like that.

Still, I'll keep your offer in mind. Are there any other skills that I'd need for either place?

No military? Huh. That's a weird thing to hear. But every country at home's got one, so I guess it's just weird for me.

[He shakes his head and shrugs his shoulders.]

If ya wanna work at the bar, then you gotta be able to mix and serve drinks, but if kickin' jerkasses out is just your field then you don't need anything else for being a bouncer.

If you got any skill in gambling, you could probably manage bein' a host in After Life's VIP room too.

[Redhead with blue eyes? Meet a redhead with red eyes! Elesis is staring at him curiously through the camera, Add and Eve collectively had been kind enough to show her how to properly use it.]

You're a swordsman who fights demons too? While I wish our professions were more in need I've found work only similar to what I'm use to. I work as a bouncer in a place called a night club. You could probably find work there or around parts that need protection. Or maybe even as a bounty hunter if you like to do a little detective work.

[Adell chuckles a little.]

Well, I fight demons, but I'm no swordsman. I'm okay in a pinch with one, but I never liked fighting with a sword. It's just not my style. I prefer taking on demons with my fists. The best way to fight fair, I think.

Bouncer? Another guy mentioned he owned a couple of clubs around the city. I could probably do that kind of work. And security might not be a bad lead either. Bounty hunting though... isn't that a little on the legally gray area in some of the regions around here?

[Her eyes sparkle with interest at the mention of fighting with his fists.]

With your fists? You'll have to let me watch your technique one day if you don't mind.

And was the man named Gale? If so he's the owner to the club I work at and so far a good man to work for. As for bounty hunting, it's legal so long as you don't kill who you're searching for as far as I understand it. Unless you're in Nova City, this you need a license.

Sure, I wouldn't mind at all. Whenever's good, really. And I wouldn't mind seeing what you can do, either. It'll be nice to get to enjoy seeing another fighting style without immediately being thrown into battle against it.

[He hesitates for a brief instant, but then nods.]

And yeah, that's the guy I talked to, all right. I haven't had a chance to check out his clubs yet, though. But no-kill bounty hunting.... that's going to be quite different than back home. I'm not against that, though. It's better that way.

[She nods her head in understanding before looking thoughtful.]

The place that I work at is definitely a place that I have never seen before. People seem to enjoy themselves at least.

I, as well, like the fact of the no-kill bounties. It gives people a chance to explain themselves and to be tried fairly.

[The young woman blinked before letting out an embarrassed laugh.]

I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. The name's Elesis. I'm also a knight from the Velder Kingdom.

[If nothing else, he looked impressed at the introduction.]

An actual knight? Nice. Is there a title I should use for you, or will just "Elesis" do?

[Of course, if a knight was working as a bouncer for a nightclub, he did kind of figure titles were far from her concern.]

And I appreciate that you care about justice. It was kinda hard to find that back home.

Just Elesis is fine, plus it would be weird to go by a title after so long.

[The young woman gave him a smile]

I stand up with sword in hand for what I believe in. Plus I think a lot of people believe in the concept of fair and just as well which is nice.

Elesis it is, then. That's easy enough.

[And she gets a smile in return.]

I know I do. I may not be a knight, but I've always believed in fair play, fair fighting, and the fair treatment of all. It happens too often that the strong oppress the weak, when they should be protecting and helping them. I do my best to live by that. It's just my style.

With the being good in a fight people might recommend a bounty hunter for you.

[She shakes her head slightly.]

As for the egg, this is a first to do with eggs anyway.

I've had it recommended. I'll probably look into it for some part-time work if I need to. Really wouldn't be much different from some of the stuff I did back home.

[Hunting demons that were causing problems probably would be good experience for that, even though he'd have to use a gentler touch here.]

Ah, yes there was for a couple weeks, but if I listened everything that has happened we might actually be here for a while. After all I have two plus years experience here.

[Now that she really thought about it, she really had been here a long while.]

Two years...? That's quite awhile.

[That in itself is an unsettling thought. Would he be stuck here that long?]

Well, I don't have anywhere to go, but if you want to just share the bigger events that happened, that'd work too.

It is, some people seem to go home in like months, some have been here years. Some have been here longer than I have. It's really strange how it works here.

[She nodded slightly.]

Well... I guess I can tell you the biggest one, which is the time when there was a crack in the barrier and... Spirits came in and drained people of emotion.

Wait... spirits? Draining emotions? Sounds like a curse, almost... unless of course they were literally trying to eat the emotional energy, or something. Did people get better?

[But then he looked a little more curious.]

You said they came from beyond the barrier? Does anyone know what else is out there?

Once we found a cure, they did.

[That took a bit, but the exact details she couldn't be sure of.]

We do not know beyond those spirits. I think because of it, no one would really want to without that huge risk of losing ones emotions.

Hello, sir. [Ted would use the name but it's a girl's and that's kind of embarrassing.]

I see most have already suggested employment. I second the suggestion about bounties. [Both to get him away from seedy nightclubs and towards all these gat-dam murderers he can't totally capture on his own.]

Speaking of Netherworldly experiences, did you happen to know of one named Vyers?

...Ah, I think he also went by, mysteriously, "Midboss."

[As soon as the names "Vyers" and "Midboss" came up, recognition crossed Adell's face very, very quickly. And he looked mildly irritated to hear the names.]

Vyers? That weirdo? Did he show up here?

Yeah, I know him. I kicked his ass once. He showed up on Veldime, wanted a challenging fight, so I gave it to him. He might be strange, but he was surprisingly hardy. Hardly the worst demon I ever encountered, though. Least he didn't try to hurt anyone.

[That anyone could even remotely dislike Vyers, one of his good friends here, shocked Ted not a little. He couldn't deny accusations of eccentricity though.]

Goodness, you must be either a very formidable foe, or he was holding back. [He suspects the latter since he could tell, gradually, that Vyers did just that in their training sessions.]

I'd be surprised if he wasn't the best demon you ever encountered. I've never known one so magnanimous.

Could be both. I've brought down a Demon Overlord before. They're pretty much the biggest badasses around, short of a Tyrant. [He decides to omit the existence of Overlord Zenon. Zenon may not be a Tyrant in title, but that may as well be the case. It was better to keep the truth about Zenon quiet, after all.] I suppose it was possible Vyers held back, but if he did, he did a very good job of playing the fool about it. Like I said, he came looking for a fight, and I gave it to him.

And I wouldn't know if he was the best one I've ever met. I didn't know him for very long. He left after our battle. But at least he was forthright about it rather than trying to take my siblings hostage like certain other demons picking a fight, for example. That much I can appreciate.

[As for being the best demon... there was a lot of competition there. He could name several very quickly that he'd name for that, though two stood above the others in his heart for now.]

Goodness, I'm jealous of your victories. What I wouldn't give to fell a demonic Tyrant.

Do you teach? If you could give Vyers a run for his money, we might be able to pick up where he left off.

[That's the first time anyone's ever asked him something like that, beyond simply teaching Rozalin the basics of combat flow. But she always fought in her own way, not in his.]

I've never tried before. I still feel like I have a lot left to learn about fighting, even with what I've done. There are still bigger and badder guys out there, after all, and I won't claim to be a master at battle.
