Fourteenth Reel: When life gives you eggs... [VIDEO]

[In her own home in Nova City, Grell uses the front camera of her phone, showing not only her tussled red locks while wearing a blue, button down shirt, but showing a bit of tiredness.

Okay, a lot of tiredness.]

It’s no secret that we’ve been gifted eggs, but if anyone has difficulty keeping an eye on them, or doesn’t want to be bothered with taking care of them, Deputy Guardian Marco will gladly keep them cozy, safe, and warm.

[She switches the camera to the back of the device, showing two sofas brought parallel to each other, two tables also parallel to each other, so together they create a make-shift den of sorts. This new space is filled with many blankets, a dozen pillows and cushions, three eggs (clearly marked “GRELL”, “MARCO”, and "NAMUR" with black ink on the shell), and a large, blue, sparkly phoenix fussing over them both.]

He’s been keeping me up most of the time after our shift, asking things like “is the thermostat high enough?” or “I think I felt it move, yoi!” or some other rubbish like that.

[There’s definitely grumpiness in her voice.]

So if you wish to leave your egg with us, write your name on it, and bring a blanket. We’ll give you our address, if interested. No payment necessary.

[The camera switches back to her, and she seems to be closer to the “nest”, sitting on the back of one of the couches.]

While I have your attention, Marco and I are married, not only to the job, but to each other, which makes things a bit difficult if we wish to take a short honeymoon together. Even after almost three years of marriage we’ve not taken one. We instead played paintball around campus in the previous world we met.

[They have the best priorities…]

So, what would you suggest we do for a day trip somewhere, hmm?

As much as these annoy me I am waiting to see if they are something interesting or cute and needs to be destroyed. I'm hoping toward the former.

[Because the latter would just get frozen solid no ands, ifs or buts. She has a bad reminder of a certain cute purple duck that she would rather not be reminded of again.]

I have to admit, I'm curious about these eggs, as well.

[She glances to them for a moment.]

It's probably for the best that we take care of them, should they turn out to be unpleasant. Then, perhaps, we could be spared their wrath.

[Nuzzles her.] Hey we did get to the spa eventually, yoi.

We did... [Nuzzles back!] But it's not really...sufficient.

[Sighs dramatically all over him.]

But it may have to do, along with something else

When I said to raise it like it was a baby some have taken that quite literally. Though he probably did before I said anything, didn't he?

Kind of adorable really.

[A paused for a moment.]

Why don't you just take a trip to another city? Different from the one you currently work at. But hey, I assume you mean a specific thing to do, right?

He did, and I'm sue he'll invite those colorful ruffians over while he's at it.

[Ugh, city pigeons...]

I work in both Fayren and Everglade, and live in Nova City. So my choices would be limited to Genessia city or Attleton.

It'll be interesting to see who produces the best results with hatching, seeing how everyone's methods appear to be completely different. I don't believe anyone has tried grouping more than four together yet. If people take up your offer and have them in close proximity to each other, please share if there's any change in development.

[ a pause ]

I'd suggest visiting a sub-archway. A few of them have rather romantic environments. Attleton has a Paris.

You mean by being nice? You think they might not attack when hatched.

[She found that a tiny bit amusing honestly.]

Ruffians?

[Admittedly she is a little surprised.]

With the amount of travelling you must be... surprised you would be able to actually have the time to have an honeymoon.

[ Cassian is watching the spectacle in the background with quiet, but mounting horror. ]

Well... now I'm no longer quite so annoyed with Kaytoo's nesting.

[ Apparently it could be worse. So much worse. ]

I don't think he'd forgive me if I outsourced the care of our eggs, but since you are collecting a larger batch, I'd be grateful if you could keep me informed about noteworthy developments.

[Even Grell knows it sounds funny, and she gives a light chuckle.]

Don't forget, these aren't your usual eggs. Best to play nice than not.

Here in Nova City, there are genetically modified pigeons. They're pastel colored now, but still a nuisance. [She doesn't like Marco hanging with them. They're a bad influence, and they take him away from the job.]

Perhaps I shouldn't have married him, then?

[It's not a snide remark, but an amused one. Grell looks back at her sparkly phoenix husband and sighs wistfully.]

How could I have said no, though?

I will definitely-- [she stops herself and rolls her eyes, waving her hand in a haphazard way.] Who am I kidding...he will let you know.

[Now this is an idea she can get behind! Grell's eyes light up at hearing that.]

The city of love?! All this time and I'm now just finding out?!

[HUFFS!!]

[Be glad you're not married to a bird, Cassian. Spring is just around the corner, and this will seem like a drop in the bucket.]

If this Kaytoo isn't an avian creature, then I doubt you will see better than this.

Whatever Marco tells me about their development, and he will, surely, I'll pass it along.

No. No. He is just... a droid.

[ He blinks. ]

Your husband... is this normal for his species?

[ You've just risen in his appreciation for being able to put up with this spectacle. He's already at his wits' end with the nest in his living room. ]

...an android?

[She wouldn't have thought androids would have any interests in nesting...unless it was a robot chicken.]

Uh... [She looks to Marco, then back to Cassian.] It must be? My lore about phoenixes isn't extensive, as they're rare creatures, but this is just how he acts. Nothing more, nor less. For what it's worth, he hasn't been human for quite some time.

[ He tilts his head, curious. There aren't many people around that might end up feeling as strongly about the eggs as Macro might. ] Have you witnessed this display of nesting instincts before?

[ He smiles at her. ]

Happy to help. I'm sure you'll have a lovely time.

Every day.

[Though Grell has put her foot down on not nesting up their bed al the time.]

I can imagine that may have become bothersome in some ways. I hadn't realized what a fascinating character he was.

You should definitely have a chat with him. I'm sure he'll give you whatever you wish to know about nesting and other habits.

[Marco making new friends that are interested in bird stuff? Yes, please!]

Ignore my partner, I'm not nesting. I'm only making sure that if there's a creature inside of those eggs and it hatches, it won't kill us on sight because it's angry that we didn't took care of it properly.

Congrats on the marriage. As for the honeymoon, you could visit some of the subarchways if you haven't? There might something interesting to see in a few of them.

If they attack regardless of if your nice it then makes it more funny.

[She wants a good laugh damn it.]

I'm just leaving mine around, you get nothing fun from being mean to it and magic doesn't work on it.

How come? I mean pigeons back home can be annoying, more so when it comes to food, but I can't say if modified pigeons would be the same.

[Paused for a moment.]

My point was more surprising you have free time with the hours of travelling you would have to do a day to get to the three jobs you seem to have. Unless you teleport everywhere.

[Another sentient robot. So interesting!]

You're doing the right thing. A nest just helps.

The marriage isn't new, but thank you all the same. I've not been privy to traveling to a subarchway, if only because it's an odd concept, but we'll give it a try.

I can't truly tell what sort of personality they have, as I don't speak avian, but their behavior needs some work.

[Grell just shrugs.]

Not so much free time, as just using my time wisely. You don't expect guardians to not have some sort of relaxation time, even for a few hours, do you?

[She does teleport everywhere, though.]

Which is probably possible.

[Not that she really knew truly, but she did know in her world people did keep such things.]

No, but considering they so called protect the city they are meant to be guard, I assumed when something were to happen time management would be a different thing.

[Yup. A rather snarky one at times.]

I admit I never tried it myself but as far as new experiences go, that one probalby can't hurt. Besides, it doesn't matter where you go if you like the person who's there with you.
