[Waking.

It's a very unusual feeling. Seth looks down at his hand and rotates it with a curious glint reflecting in his pale yellow eyes. This is very new. New can be many things and as Seth drops into the pool of water he tries to figure out what sort of new this was. Good new? Usual new? Shocking new? He doesn't think it's bad but the word to describe his current situation escapes him.

With surprising calm he walks towards the video and eyes the pamphlets. He empties the box he'd been given into the pockets of his jacket before playing with the phone. He knows about phones, he's watched the world develop over time, but this is the first time he's gotten to use one.

He likes it.

Seth chooses to stand at the mouth of the bay, playing with his new phone and watching those who walk by. He likes watching. You can learn a lot by watching and he's interested in learning. Anyone walking by will see a man standing just shy of six feet with white hair, a lip ring and overly form attire.]

[Seth flicks on the video when he decides that he's done playing with his new phone. Pale yellow eyes stare at the screen, complimented by messy white hair and a smirk on his lips. The bay is visible behind him but not much more.]

Hey all. [It feels like the best way to address the masses.] Name's Seth and it looks like I'm your new neighbor. One of them anyway.

[His tongue flicks along his bottom lip, making his lip ring glint noticeably.] There are a lot of questions out there. I'm sure I'll learn. Any tips for the new guy would be great. If not, what do you like doing around here? How you holding up? I'm sure some of you are doing better than others.

[He's curious by nature.]

Hello, Seth! Magnanimous name. What, if you don't mind, is your appointment?

[Cause that's what "Seth" means. He's dying to know.]

Advice, eh? Well, for one, try and find work. Idle hands are the devil's playthings and all that, plus it'll grant you more money for nicer homes to live in.

Don't open any subarchways. They aren't real and it's tragic to give up reality for them. It's a bad trade all around.

Maintain, as much as you can, your will to live. If that falters, you're as good as gone. With that in mind, form as many bonds and relations as you can. That'll help you bounce back from your loss of contextual truth.

Oh, I like most everything! There's derring-do, having adventures, going on walks with pets, chatting up newcomers like yourself, meeting with strange and otherworldly friends, blah blah blah...

[He goes on.]

As you can see I've life to spare; the world hasn't let me go once. Hopefully that's a good omen.

(What a curious fellow, and in demeanor, rather like someone he knows, though much more well-spoken...and better dressed.)

How kind of you to ask! I'm doing well enough, given the circumstances. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Seth. (He places a hand over his heart and bows slightly in greeting.) I am Dorian of House Pavus.

Start off with a personal quest right off the bat, huh? You're cute but that's most like a third date question. [He probably won't tell Ted about his name or it's meaning but he's impressed that this man knows his names Hebrew meaning. Seth gathers he also probably knows that Seth is the name of Adam and Eve's third son. Interesting.

Seth exhales as he listens to Ted's rather elegant rant.]

Working, that'll be new. I don't really mind living in a busted place, so long as there is a roof over my head. [Form relationships. At that, Seth can't stop his smirk from returning. He's done many things in his life time but forming relationships he finds to be the most painful. In light of that they are also the most rewarding but he's still debating if it's worth getting past skin depth.]

Derring-do's huh, I'd like to see some of that. Not sure what you mean by subarchways though. Care to go on?

[Seth nods his head in a slight bow at Dorian's introduction.] House Pavus, must be grand. [Since Pavus is the Latin word for peacock. Though Seth supposes words might have different meanings depending where people are from. Interesting, though it's a fact that will prove itself to be annoying.]

Glad to hear you're doing well enough. [Seth really doesn't mind the relocation all that much.]

How have you been spending your time here? Doesn't really seem like a party city. Though looks, I've found, can be deceiving. [After all, Seth is very deceiving himself.]

*Hey, white hair. Meet pink hair. Sonico smiles in greeting at the newbie, seemingly sitting at home on her sofa*

Hi Seth, I'm Sonico. It's nice to meet you.

*She pauses as she watches him lick his lip, her eyes catching the ring*

I'm doing well, thank you. And you will too, once you've settled in, I'm sure. Welcome to Genessia.

[Pink hair, new, bright eyed, cute: he quickly asses before nodding his head with an amused expression. He's happy for the warm welcome. He likes people as a general rule.]

Thanks for the welcome. Don't worry about me though. I am used to traveling and mange just fine.

What about you? What do you do around here?

*She does look a little relieved - she is so used to people freaking out when they arrive*

Me? Well...I spend my time doing different things. But mostly, these days, I sing. I'm a musician. I suppose...

*She does seem a little embarrassed to talk about herself*

[Seth has seen too much to be freaked out now. His long life has been spent fading between worlds, not really existing anywhere. He doesn't think it's safe here either but he's warmed by the diversion.]

Oh?

What is it that you sing? [Pale yellow eyes glance upwards while his tongue once again drags over his lower lip. Playing with his lip ring is a bad habit.] I'd be interested in hearing you.

Well... I sing all sorts of things.

*She glances down, really quite bashful to be speaking so much about herself*

Usually, rock, or perhaps rock pop, is more of my thing. But I've been trying to do more acoustic lately. I've also lately taken up a singing spot at a club, Velvet Lust. That's a bit more smooth and jazz, I suppose.

Sounds like you have a taste for a type.

[He remarks in a warm tone.]

Velvet Lust? I'll have to come by and see you perform. In a non-stalkerish way. Though with a name like that, it's hard to take it as anything else. [He's only teasing. For someone so seemingly docile he's curious about where she works. It doesn't sound like a docile place.]

(He chuckles at the handsome man on the screen before him playfully.) Oh, not as grand as we'd like, but we get by.

(He shrugs, a gentle rolling of the shoulders.)

As well as can be expected, yes. Have you just arrived?

(Dorian's confident smile never wavers, but the edges of his eyes harden slightly in suspicion.) Such an odd question. I busy myself as any self-respecting mage would.

[Seth's tongue flicks across his bottom lip. It's an awful habit but he plays with the little silver lip ring when he's thinking, which is most of the time.]

I have. Not exactly where I was expecting to wake up but I plan to make what I an of it. [There is an odd inflection when he says 'wake up' as if that alone is enough to pause for it's oddness.] A mage? Is magic common here? That'll be a nice change.

[He doesn't blame Dorian for his suspicion but he doesn't comment on it.]

I have little doubt that is the case for most of us, actually.

(He doesn't comment on the odd inflection, either, but he does notice it.)

I say I'm a mage so it's suddenly common? I...well, yes, actually. Here it...seems to be more common then my homeworld.

Nope but you said it openly. Figured it was safe to assume that it's either common where you're from or common here. It was wishful thinking that it was here. Be nice to find a place more comfortable with magic.

[It's a common enough occurrence, but he really doesn't like it when people choose not to believe in things that happen right in front of them.]

Do you like it here?

Ah, yes, well. It it's precisely common where I come from but we do tend to, well, associate with one another.

(He could go into Tevinter essentially being a Magocracy, but people tended to frown upon learning that.)

No, no. They're far more comfortable with magic here than the southern lands of Thedas, certainly. Though, it seems, there are certain types of magic which are taboo. Yes, yes, Thedas has its uncouthness as well. Blood magic, for instance? "The Last Resort of the Feeble Mind", a wise man once called it. (He pauses here. That wise man...had been his father, after all.)

Here? Necromancy in all its incarnations seems to be a very very bad word.

[Seth rubs the back of his head with his free hand, shifting the messy white locks before relaxing against a wall behind him.]

Never tried a hand at Necromancy. I think I'll be fine. [He doesn't really practice magic in the traditional sense anyway.] Sounds interesting. I'd like to hear more about Thedas.

Well, that and those unable to use mage seem to distrust us on reflex. (He rolls a shoulder.) I can't imagine why.

Be sure that you don't, or at least don't make your practices known. It isn't worth the bother.

(He brightens at that.)

I could recount the history of Thedas if you've a mind. It's long, mind you, rather tumultuous, and demanding of a good wine.

People do crazy things when they're afraid.

[He comments off handily but spoken with someone who has experiance with it. Seth knows what fear can stir and if the result here is only mistrust? That's perfectly fine by him. There are always worse situations.

A smirk tugs at Seth's lips.] That sounds like a nice evening. Histories supposed to be a bit daunting. That's the fun of it. [It's interesting to Seth to learn of histories that he hadn't lived through.]

[He chuckles, enjoying the casual conversation, even if the topics were a bit heavy. It wasn't something he was unaccustomed to.]

Oh, I'm sure it could be quite nice, and the history of Thedas is, at times spotty, but always filled with court intrigue, plenty of demons, recently, quite a lot of Darkspawn, dragons and, well, more demons...and Darkspawn. [He chuckles.] Seems to be a recurring theme, really.

[The list interests Seth, just as much as the order that Dorian spoke them in. Whatever Dorian's wording, Seth found himself hooked. It didn't hurt that Dorian had a nice voice to listen too.]

Most histories repeat themselves. [It's a factual remark though a little wistfully spoken.]

I'd exchange your history for my owns but it isn't nearly as interesting. War is a common theme but it's people fighting people. Without magic or races people persecute by gender, skin color and religion.

[He's not sure how to handle "cute" from another man. Same as any other compliment, maybe?]

"Um, thanks! Haha, how can labor be new? Not a pampered prince or spoiled sultan, I hope. Well, it's good you're no stranger to asceticism.

[A not-so-subtle sigh as he's forced to delve into one of the more unpleasant topics of Genessia. Suppose, like vegetables, it's best to get them out of the way first.]

Subarchways are...a kind of simulacrum of a place you knew. A doorway into a nostalgic landscape. The rub is that they're utterly fake; a substantial illusion. Worse, you have to pay a price for them. The same price you'd have to pay for death, in fact. You could say that one is laying down their life for a false comfort. At least, if it is for comfort's sake one's made. There are other reasons; some use them to provide shelter for others who couldn't live any other way, or as a means to procure goods that can't be made here. Even so, it's a very dear price, one I wouldn't wish anyone to pay.

Skin color? Now that is odd. Religion, yes. That is certainly not unheard of, or slave rebellions.

Ah, but I'm getting ahead of myself. I would gladly hear your histories. I do have a love of learning.

What have the others before me told you? I can always add to it should I need to.

[Considering how long she has been here she does have some knowledge.]

[Seth replies with ease and composure. He has nothing against working but she's never needed to do it before. It'll be an interesting change.]

I don't think anyone wants a sub-archway into my home. [Any place on Earth would be fine but Seth knows what his home is. It's a place that he rarely goes and it'd be dangerous to bring even a copy of such a place here.]

How many are there? I didn't see a list in my brochures. [Though he's been mostly playing with his phone.]

That's something we share. [Seth pauses and once again his tongue drags over his lower lip.]

I appear to suddenly have a very clear schedule. Let me know when you're available and we can meet.
