Hear. Feel. Think. [Video/Action, OTA]

[She woke with a start from a nightmare of dragonflame... to find herself half-frozen in some kind of pod in the middle of an ankle-deep lake. Well... ankle deep on, say, a Hyur or Mi'qote. On her tiny Lalafell frame, it was almost knee deep. Right. First order of business, get out of the water. That large doorway over there looks promising enough.]

[Once she managed to reach her chosen destination, Aeslyn took a moment to take stock of herself. She had absentmindedly carried the package she'd been holding when she awoke, so she opened that now - some kind of currency, a number of pamphlets that seemed to describe the city she found herself in along with others that were apparently connected to it, and a device of some kind. It looked something like the view screens on ancient Allagan machina, but it was far too simple in design to be their work. Surely one of these brochures - ah, yes. It takes her a while to eke out what the phone does and how to make it work, but once she does...]

What in the name of Hydaelyn is this place, and how did I get here? I suppose that's the first question everyone asks. The brochures leave something to be desired - particularly details on the invasion of these hideous, hulking husks. Perhaps someone would please explain the pertinent points?

From what I know, no one really seems to know how we got here.

[Haru was currently sitting down sipping what seemed to be a cup of tea. She was in a safe zone for the time being which was nice.]

Which is always quite worrying, that I can understand.

[Aes... is very decidedly not in a safe zone. She's out in the streets, and behind her there seems to be some kind of a fight going on, with flashes of golden light and maybe the hint of a tail or three every now and again visible over her shoulder.]

Well enough, I suppose. I'd take more time to listen to the hologram's instructions, but at the moment I seem to be thrice my height deep in husks. Do you perhaps have instructions on how I might reach safer ground?

[And while she waits for a response, the phone is going to just... stay where she was holding it while she takes a moment to deal with the situation behind her. A book in one hand, the other one casting. How is the phone hanging there? Why, it's being held in the beak of a giant bird, of course!]

Yeah listening to it in this situation is probably not the best idea. I am aware of the safe house that resides in this city at least if you make plans to head there.

[She was sure that once one was safe it was probably easier to explain things or find out the information one might need.]

Also what exactly is holding your phone?

If you could provide directions, that would be wonderful. I'm just outside the place where I woke up, right now.

[Something else becomes apparent as she continues moving; this new arrival is tiny, certainly no more than three feet tall. Yet for all that, she seems to be handling the fight with well-honed skill - and the golden, three-tailed foxlike creature that's assisting her is faring none too poorly, either, despite being by all appearances made of concentrated cute.]

Ah, that would be Rotisserie. My chocobo. A friend of mine once called it a horse-bird, if that helps any.

[Sure, he can take a small break from spirit-capturing to answer the smal one's questions on the same. If only he remembered to undo his creepy costume.]

"Genessia, and 'spirited away'--that's my best guess--respectively. Speaking of names, what does 'Hydaelyn' mean? Oh, and what's yours and it's meaning, while we're at it?

Ah, the spirits. Troublesome things; they resided just on the outskirts of the barrier; a surrounding shield of the world. God knows how they got there or how said shield went down--again. But for the present we know some things:

They are jealous for one's passions; and if they get you, you'll lose yours and turn into something of a husk yourself.

They're best dispatched by spiritual means; fighting fire with fire, and all that. Failing that, it's probably better to hide and let others--myself, for example, if you'll bear the boasting--handle them. I can escort you to a safehouse if you like.

I can provide them through the device. it might take me a moment or two, or I could come and show you, whichever you would prefer.

[not like right now she could really do anything to potentially be of us except being a guide toward the safe house.]

Oh wow, I'm surprised that Chocobo managed to fit into that tiny cocoon with you when you woke up.

He's about the size of a normal person, and I'm pretty small. It was a bit of a tight squeeze, but not unbearable once we worked out how to get one of us out of there.

[She looks at the phone, frowning a bit, then nods.]

Maybe you'd better come get me. I can keep these things off us easily enough.

Hydaelyn is the name of the mother crystal - sort of like a deity, only with a physical form. It's... complicated.

[She's not going to explain the Echo right now, especially not to someone in all black. Sorry, Ted, you look entirely too much like an Ascian right now.]

My name is Aeslyn Blackrose. I took the latter from the orphanage I was raised in - the former was given to me by the person who ran the place. Neither is a common name among my people.

[She turns and drops a Shadow Flare in the middle of the street, slowing a large clump of them, then casts a Painflare into their midst to deal some real damage.] 'Any port in a storm' I believe is the saying? This place has plenty of latent aether, but even I will run out eventually. A safe place to put my back to a wall would be most welcome.

"Hah, is it? I'm very familiar with incarnate deities, as it happens."

[He's not a fan of his own aesthetic either. Beggars can't be choosers.]

"HUh! 'Blackrose' sounds plain enough, but 'Aeslyn'? You'll have to explain..."

[He doesn't catch much through the phone beyond magical pyrotechnics. Thank goodness he doesn't know the name of any of those spells, else he'd wonder why they couldn't ever get more wholesome disciples of magic. Where's a clean, decent white mage when you really need one?]

"My apologies for arriving in the middle of such a storm. Here, I'll just..."

[He sends some coordinates to the Genessia City safehouse to her phone. Then again, assuming they'd get the workings of the device that quickly might be a stretch. She sounds confident, so she probably won't die. Better safe than sorry. Besides, no lady should be unattended in times of danger. Isn't chivalrous, or something.]

"Will you be all right? I can be at The Bay soon."

I'm rather more familiar with them than I would like to be.

[Look, there's a reason people call her 'Godslayer' back home. As for the spells... well, he might be interested in the fact that she DOES have a second set, and that they're healer oriented. Unfortunately they're not on display right now.]

I think I can make it to that location. This thing will do for now, but someday soon, I'm going to need a proper map - even if I have to make it myself.

[He should probably leave her to her not-dying; but he's a chatterbox so he can't resist some parting.]

"Glad you understood so swiftly! Yes, go with God. Let's talk more once this calamity concludes."

Are you still by the Bay?

[Because that would make getting there much easier to show them in person.]

Not far from it. I can't move very fast because of these things blocking my path, but it's not the first time I've had to fight a holding action. I'll manage til you get here.

I will have to be careful and attempt to avoid them, so I will apologise if I am late.

[Because she might not be able to go via the usual way anyway.]

Just try and hold off for as long as you can.

Shouldn't be a problem.

[She cuts the video feed, and after retrieving her phone, sets about clearing some space. These things go down pretty quick when she's in Dreadwyrm Trance, but that's only about a fifth of the time - the rest of the time, she's literally fighting to hold her ground. Her chocobo - the same sky blue as her hair - assists as he can, relegated entirely to healing duty. Between them, they keep Carbuncle alive - and that's where things get interesting. Because Topaz Carbuncle is a tank, and he's got a HUGE number of those things following him. And since he's not really a thinking being, they can't do a thing to him except try to bludgeon him to dust so they can get at his master.]

[Haru was making sure to avoid the spirits in case they drain her; something she wasn't aware of just yet and after around thirty minutes or so, she soon found where she was heading to.

It was obvious Haru looked like a perfectly normal citizen for the most part. She waved slightly, checking that the other could see her first and to not draw too much attention.]

[For her part, Aeslyn is quite obviously something other than human - if the pointed ears didn't give it away, surely the fact that she's under three feet tall will. Aes returns the wave, as inconspicuously as she can, and starts making her way toward Haru's position.]

[If Haru hadn't been used to the situation that had been going on at home, she would consider it a strange sight. But she accepts it, turning on her heels.]

Follow me, quickly. I'll show you the safe house.

[As she speaks, she is already heading off.]

[For someone so small, she can certainly run. But why do that when she has a mount close to hand? She clambers up into her chocobo's saddle on the run, putting her... just about on eye level with normal people, really. From there, it's just a matter of staying out of reach of the shades and making it to the safe house intact.]

[Haru made sure she was keeping away from the spirits as best as possible, running right away if they came close. Not much she felt like she could do after all.

When the safe house was finally in sight, she couldn't help but give a little sigh of relief.]

We made it.
