[The worst month of the year is here. The Summer heatwave. Anastasia hates being stuck inside, unable to set foot out of the house because of the traits of her people.

However, after seeing a cute cartoon about penguins, she got an idea.

Dressed in a pure white sundress, complete with a pretty ribbon hat and parasol, she hid in the shade of the apartment door as she had her Glaceon build the foundation for a igloo right there on the lawn, or whatever is in front of the Heavens Court Apartments.

Once it was finished, she used her own Ice and Water magic to help her Glaceon build her igloo into a little ice castle, fit for a snow princess.

The interior was hollow with a ice table and ice chairs for two. It was about 7 feet tall and 13 feet around. The exterior upwards to 10 feet tall and 14 feet around. So now Princess Anastasia took her spot in her ice castle which stuck out like a lit-up sore thumb.]

[Anastasia appears on the network, showing off a pretty smile. She was obviously proud of herself.]

I built an ice castle! I didn't know my magic can be used for anything other than destroying. So now I can sit outside and not worry about the heat hurting me.

[She will need Glaceon to help keep it standing, of course.]

[He couldn't help it. He still wasn't quite entirely himself - still pale and somewhat drawn - but this heat wave has forced his hand. It had to be now, or reveal to her that he had a solution to her problem after it became useless.]

[So, here he comes, riding on Nightmare - who, for once, is behaving herself. Maybe because she knows they're going to see one of her friends.]

[Glaceon was blowing icy wind to refreeze the spires on the ice castle before stopping for a break. That's when it noticed Soma's approach and alerted Anastasia of his approach.

The girl looked out the huge hole acting as a door to see Soma. She smiled brightly and waited patiently for him to stop and join her.]>

[He smiles, waves, and brings Nightmare on over - or she brings him, however you want to look at it. He's carrying what looks like a shopping bag, and it's pretty heavily loaded; someone came prepared.]

I thought you might like some company, and maybe an afternoon tea besides.

I would like that.

[She gestures to the ice chair across the ice table.]

Please, have a seat. I'm afraid Nightmare has to stay outside. It's not big enough inside.

What have you brought with you?

I'm sure she won't mind, as long as she can poke her head in from time to time.

[Fortunately Soma's wearing his coat - like he always is - so the chair isn't going to make things too uncomfortable. After taking a seat, he sets the bag on the table and starts removing its contents. A thermos cleverly designed to resemble a tea kettle, its contents obvious; a sealed plate containing tea cakes; paper wrapped sandwiches; and last but certainly not least, a bowl of sugar cubes. Why sugar cubes? Well, there's a friendly horse standing right there.]

[After he's finished setting things out, there's still something in the bag - but he's saving that for later.]

Here we have a luncheon spread provided by our friends at the Jade Lotus. I neglected to ask your preferences last time, so I ordered two of the things I like and a selection of other options, just in case. I hope everything is to milady's liking?

[Yes, he is being deliberately cheesy.]

[Naturally, she will reach for which ever was the sweetest. If the cake had strawberries, she'll take a slice. If the sandwich had peanut butter and jelly, she'll take one too.]

It's perfect, Soma. Thank you. I am flattered you would go through all this trouble just for a picnic inside a igloo-castle with me.

[Pouring herself some tea to go with the snacks]

How are you doing, by the way? You look to still be recovering.

I've... been better. It's safer if I don't use magic for a while, but as long as I don't get into another fight that shouldn't be too hard.

[Riding Nightmare here doesn't count; he's worked out a way to summon her that doesn't put a continuous drain on him. Soma's selections lean more towards the meat side, though he will certainly be having a slice of cake (which does indeed have strawberries). And yes, of course there is peanut butter and jelly. He knows she has a sweet tooth.]

How about you? You certainly look better than last time I saw you.

I'm fine now. I still start feeling weak and shakey if I move around too much. Even faster now in this heatwave.

But I'll be fine.

[And of course, the first bite is out of the cake. Her sweet tooth reigns supreme.]

What have you been up to?

Resting, for the most part. I work at a place in Everglade where I make potions, but it's easy enough work and doesn't actually require any magic input on my end - just rare ingredients.

[He starts in on a sandwich, ham and cheese from the look of it; traditional order, saving the best for last, whatever you want to call it.]

I did have an interesting meeting with someone, though...

Potions? Is there such thing as a love potion?

[Just a curious mind being curious. She cut up her cake into small bites.]

An interesting meeting with whom?

That rather depends on what you consider to be love. Physical attraction? Yes. Devotion? Yes. Both are temporary, of course... but they can do quite a lot of damage before they wear off. Being coerced into someone's arms rarely makes a person happy; that's why that sort of potion is considered taboo, because it almost never ends well for anyone involved. But... yes. I know how to make them, and more besides.

[Not that Dracula had ever needed them - he had other means of compulsion at his command that were far more effective.]

The surest way to actual, lasting love is what it has always been. Spend time together. Get to know one another. Learn each other's strengths and weaknesses, and how best to work with your partner so that the bond between you is greater than the sum of its parts. People in my world talk about something called 'the friend zone', as if someone being a friend precludes them from being a lover.

[He stares down at the sandwich on his plate, cheeks slightly red from that explanation - he might be able to say the things, but they still make him feel more than a little awkward. Especially talking to a child. Aaand then she asks him the inevitable question.]

Dracula. Vlad Tepes. The most dangerous person I know.

I think it's a little bit of everything in my culture. There are several reasons why it's very difficult to find one's true soulmate. Romance has always been about fond togetherness and devotion, as well as instinct. You just...know.

...in my country, at least. I don't know how it is elsewhere.

[It's a topic she used to have an interest in, but that has been in a downward spiral since she is aware that she allowed herself to grow too fond of people, only for them to disappear and leave her feeling hopelessly alone. She merely asked about love potions out of curiosity since it has come up in fairy tales before.

She stopped snacking on the sweets when the name came up. She did not expect this.]

Dracula? Why him of all people?

I think that's about how it works in most places, really.

[Much as he would rather continue the first half of the conversation, that wrecking ball he dropped has had the inevitable effect. He sets his cup down, and his sandwich, and picks up the bag.]

For this. [He removes the last item, a flat, round shape wrapped in paper. He offers it to her without opening it - he's already confirmed that it works. Inside is a gold circlet set with a ruby the size of Soma's thumb, its surface carved with illustrations of fire.]

I couldn't make it on my own.
