[Gaston can be seen hunched over book at a table in the Drunken Monkey His shift had ended and he was enjoying a drink at the same time. He held the book awkwardly in his hands just as he had with the smart phone. He always had a hard time holding something small with his large hands, feeling like he would break the object.

Thankfully he had found a book that was in his language to read. That was the first problem. Then it was finding something interesting enough to read. A book called the Three Musketeers caught his attention. Even then he was having a hard time reading it. Not to mention the attention span for it.

He didn't understand why Belle loved those books so much. She was always carrying one or two around and had her nose stuck in one. She basically hid in them. When he tried to spark a conversation with her over the book she had, she seemed interested for a change. Only, he had failed miserably with the fact he never had read the book.

He eventually slammed the book with an irritated sigh. He was lucky enough to have made it through a few pages before growing bored.]

I don't get it. What is so important about these books? They can never hold my attention long enough to finish one.

[He was talking to himself more then anything, not realizing that he accidentally turned his device on to recording.]

[Jaune raises an eyebrow at this grown man who is complaining about books. It's not so much the complaining that leaves him incredulous, but the fact it sounds like he's rarely read one before. Jaune isn't a fan of reading and sheltered enough to be ignorant of the most basic phenomena of his world and he's still more familiar with books than this guy.

Whatever. He isn't going to judge.]

If you don't like books, you might like comics.

[Jaune's suggestion only earned a confused glance his way. It was only then he realized his device had recorded him. After punching it with his fist he turned his attention back to the young man. The video may have broken up a bit with the punch.]

...What are comics?

[Gaston can't reach or punch him so he just sips his iced latte while he does that.]

Words with pictures that tell a story. Usually they're more action based, but there are all kinds of genres. You can find them in stores and even libraries here, but I'll link you to my favorite author. A true literary genius.

[He links Gaston this. He's so proud of his bro who created this.]

Oh...we don't have anything like that back in my world. They are easier to read, but I don't think Belle would like those.

Belle? [Oh. Ohhhh. He's starting to understand now. But he isn't sure, so he asks.]

Why are you torturing yourself by reading books?

She likes to read them all the time. I think she uses them to hide.

Okay. I know a lot of bookworms, but you know it's okay to like different things, right?

I know that...but she doesn't seem to want to talk. She got interested when I showed some interest in her book. I was hoping to bridge some kind of connection through it.

But that's not your... [He pauses and suddenly brightens.] There's a thing where people with good voices record themselves reading books. Like the classics and stuff. They're meant for busy people and people with vision problems, but anyone can listen to them. Maybe if you listened to one of the books she likes, you could appreciate it more. Learning's important and everything, but there's no point in forcing yourself to be something you're not. I think the fact that you're trying shows you're serious enough.

Not your what? [He tilts his head, curiously. He does brighten up a bit at the prospect of being able to listen to a book.]

That does sound a lot better then trying to read. Hopefully she will understand.

Your...your fault. [Glancing down uncertainly. But he's over it moments later.]

She should. Everyone learns differently-- it took me a while to figure that out. Maybe she has to be in a quiet place to absorb everything, while you might need something else. What matters is that you learn, not how.

I hope so...thank you for the suggestion. Will the library have those type of books?

I was always a hands on learner. I learned through watching others and through repetition.

Genessia, Nova City's and Attleton's all probably will. Don't know about Fayren's.

Hey, me too. Some things are best learned that way. You wouldn't want to learn combat by reading a book about it; it's important to practice and supplement that with new information. [God he sounds like Weiss.]

Now, books in general...well, for one, they keep one from being worldly. You know, escaping the unconscious biases of one's current age. Broadens one's perspective, and all that."

It's called the Three Musketeers. There seemed to be a lot of fighting in it so it looked interesting.

So you're trusting what the person is writing and believing that its true about other places?

Heh, of course! Would be bad faith otherwise. One shouldn't set out with the assumption others are out to bamboozle you. Poor practice in literature and life.

Hah, well it is hard to beat out real swordplay with wordplay, but some writers can turn a phrase as deftly as a blade. It's not all swashbuckling, of course. Political asides, character drama, those sorts of things. All the tissue of humanity, like any holistic work would have.

Gaston are you... are you reading a book?

[She's trying to hide the small smile that threatens to take over her lips.]

What book is it?

[He didn't want Belle to even see this video and of course she saw it. He can't help but give an embarrassed grin as he tried to hide the book.]

What book? I don't know what you're talking about.

You're not very good at hiding it Gaston.

Are you trying to read because of me?

It might be that.

[She tries to hide a small smile.]

I can help you, you know. If you truly want to get better at reading.

[He saw that smile and that got his hopes up a little. Maybe he was on the correct path with this direction.]

I can read...just have a hard time staying focused with it. I usually ownly read when it's absolutely necessary.

Perhaps you just haven't found the right books?

[She suggests with a raised brow.]

Books are... a portal to another world. There are books about everything. I'm sure you can find something that you enjoy in them.

[Belle doesn't think it'll stick but she thinks that everyone should read.]

Maybe. Someone else had mentioned that. That why you like reading so much?

The book I have right now is supposed to have a lot of sword fighting involved. I've only gotten through the first three pages...

[It's a simple desire for something bigger than the little town she's always known.]

It might take a little longer to get to the sword play. Do you find the characters you've met interesting?

They seem interesting. The book's called the Three Musketeers.

[She doesn't know the Three Musketeers but it sounds like it'd be an exciting story.]
