[Just outside of every entrance to the Bay, new arrivals might find a magazine stand stacked with fliers, each one with a sign overhead saying "READ ME." On the flier itself is a message.]

DON'T PANIC
If you're reading this you've probably just woken up in a strange place and are very confused.
Welcome to the club.

What I can tell you is that you're safe, this isn't a trick, and, no, we don't know any way back yet. The packet you woke up with should give you more information and include some cash and an apartment key.

[He looks back at Ruby, quickly reevaluating his opinion of her and shifting it from cute kid to cute kid who might be able to kick my ass. With that decided, he finally opens the door to the floor.]

I'm guessing you're not some regular kid, then.

Yeah. Just a little... Or a lot, you really can only cut if off a lot, can't you?

[And she'll step through the door, assuming that he's going to hold it open for her again.]

Me? No, I'm as regular as they come, promise!

It's usually the kind of thing you have to go all or nothing on, yeah.

[He does hold that door again. Because, of course he does.]

Humor me a little. Let's say we're talking about a place where regular fifteen year old kids don't fight monsters at all. How "not regular" are we talking?

All or nothing, yeah... Yeah it is.

[Next question makes her stop for a little and she plays around with the thought for a little. She'll go to say something then stop herself as she tries to think of the best way to go about this.]

I'm really fast and can beat people up really good with a scythe. A scythe that also happens to be a gun?

[Cue sweet nervous smile.]

How's that?

[That makes Harry miss a step there and he turns around, gaping for a moment before shaking his head with a laugh.]

Er, sorry. For a second there I thought you said you have a scythe that's also a gun?

[He couldn't have heard that right. Right?]

That's because I kind of did say that...

[Remember that thing she was holding on to in the truck? She'll hold that up.]

And well it's a high impact sniper rifle to be exact.

[Somewhere, in some world, the sky is currently falling. Pigs are soaring through the sky on feathered wings. Earthquakes, volcanoes, the dead rising from the grave. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria!]

[Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is speechless.]

Huh.

That's, uh....

That's really somethin' alright.

B-b-but aside from that I'm just your completely average girl... I promise!

[Insert a long awkward pause and some shuffling here.]

I can uh... Show you it to you if you want... Once we get into a room with more space.

[Crescent Rose and narrow hallways don't mix.]

[Completely average. What kind of world was this again?]

Completely average it is. I've been around enough to know not to argue with a lady carrying a giant gun.

[He steps aside, letting her have free reign down the hallway.]

Not only do I want to see it, I feel like I have an obligation to. [He nods down the hallway.] Nobody else lives on this floor, as far as I know, take your pick.

[You know the one with all the monsters and a school where people learn how to kill them.]

That's probably a good call. I know I wouldn't want to argue with anyone that had a big gun, that's for sure.

[She'll take a moment to wander up and down the hall a couple times before she finally settles on room 402.]

How about this one then?

[And she doesn't give Harry a chance to respond before she's gone and opened the door and poked her head inside.]

Oh wow. This looks great!

[Oh, that one. Of course.]

[Harry hangs back, letting Ruby take her time to pick out an apartment When she finally settles on one, he glances over her head and lets out a low whistle.]

I forgot how fancy this place is.

[Not that he'd even know what to do living in a place like this. He'll keep his basement apartment.]

It's certainly classy.

[On to the next order of business, actually walking inside the apartment. After a quick little walk around to check out everything the place had to offer. She'll make her way back into the living room.]

Well... Home, sweet home I guess.

[She still isn't quite sure how she feels about this sudden forced move, but she has to make the best of it now.]

[He lets her take her time to look around, hanging back just at the hallway and outside of the Threshold's barrier. Oh, he could cross it, but it would mean leaving some power behind without an invitation, and he never liked doing that.]

Close enough, I guess. At least the jerks who run this place have good taste in living spaces.

[He always hated when this place brought kids in. Even if Ruby was, apparently, some kind of monster-slaying badass she was still just a kid in a strange place. And a dangerous one, if events from last year were any indication.]

[Ruby may have been a little too excited when she started looking around the apartment and didn't really notice that Harry hadn't followed her in. Once she got back to the living room she saw him just standing back in the hallway.]

Uhmmmm... Aren't you going to come in?

Can't. Not without an invitation.

[There was a complex explanation behind it all, regarding the meaning and symbolic nature of a person's home and the movement of magical energies. Very complex and somewhat difficult to explain.]

[Harry shrugs.]

Wizard thing.

Sounds more like a vampire thing.

...Ohno! Don'ttellmeyou'reavampire! I just got here, I don't want my blood sucked!

[Wait a second he was out during the day. Vampires can't do that can they?]

Ooooh. Is that a vampire and wizard thing?

[Harry grimaces a little at the vampire remark but shakes it off. He hates the damned things.]

Same concept, different levels of severity. A vampire wouldn't be able to cross a Threshold without being invited at all. I could but it would mean leaving most of my power at the door.

[And considering some of that power was actually what was keeping him in one piece, he doesn't much want to take the chance of it failing on him.]

[She didn't mean to offend you Harry! She didn't want her blood sucked!]

Ooooooooh, Neat.

Well you can come in, It's getting a little weird talking to you from all the way over here.

[Though she probably could have moved closer or something.]

[No problem there. It's not like Ruby has a handy list of all of Harry's personal vendettas.]

[It does occur to him when he steps inside that he might actually have enough clout to blow past the Threshold if he wanted to. He's not going to though, because he figures that Ruby doesn't need an angry wizard hurling metaphysical rage at her new apartment and wrecking the wallpaper.]

So... about that scythe gun?

Oh, right!

[No Harry, she can wreck her apartment just fine on her own. She'll prove it too when she pulls out Crescent Rose and unfold it into it's Scythe form, ...and take out a lamp while she does it. she'll flinch as the lamp smashes against the ground.]

Oh no! Not again!

Watch out for-- [too late, Harry winces a little bit when the lamp smashes on the floor. Well... that does happen. Still, he's more focused on Crescent Rose right now because.

a: holy hell, look at that thing.

and b: how is a girl that size carrying that thing around like it just ain't no thang?!]

Whoah. [He raises his eyebrows, taking a good look at the weapon.] Where... did you get that?

[Don't mind Ruby as she gives Crescent Rose a little hug while Harry looks it over. She's glad that he seems interested in her baby.]

Actually... I kind of made Crescent Rose myself, everyone at the school I used to go to forged their own weapons.

It's pretty cool, right?

[He is interested, because when somebody tells him that they have a giant scythe that is also a sniper rifle, he has to see that for himself.]

You made it?

[His eyebrows go up again and he gives a low whistle. Harry's no gearhead himself, but he has made all the magical gear he's carrying himself. From the simple runes carved into his staff to the more complex metal bands on his fingers. So he understands the kind of pride that with creating something like that.]

I'll say. I don't know what kind of stuff people from your world usually carry around, but you can call me impressed.

[Well she is more than happy to show it off.]

I did and I couldn't be happier with it. It's slices and dices and it makes french fries in three different sizes!

[Okay that sounded a lot cooler in her head.]

...Oh and it shoots things too!

[Awkward pause. ...And topic change!]

Scythes are pretty rare where I'm from but a lot of weapons tend to have a mix of melee and range. It's just handy, y'know?

[Harry chuckled, grinning a little. Nice kid. A little awkward, but nice.]

Yeah, I hear you.

[And he pauses, glancing down at the broken lamp and then up to the kitchen thoughtfully. Well... as long as they were showing off.]

Hang on a second.

[He digs around in his big coat pockets for a moment before retrieving a length of straw and clutching it in his hand. He focuses for a second, gathering his will together and then points it towards the broken pieces.]

Pulitas.

[And the mess... just sits there. Being a mess. Oh, but there is suddenly a broom drifting out of the kitchen to sweep it up all on its own.]
