Stinkor Wasn't Lying

WHO: Cherise Thompson, OPEN
WHAT: Cherise had a fateful encounter with Stinkor. It did not go well. Now she has to buy all the tomato juice.
WHEN: May 9th, 2014
WHERE: Pan's Grocery - Genessia City

There was nothing Cherise could do about the stench left behind by the villainous skunk man that had attacked her and stolen her Pokemon yesterday morning. None of her potions could eliminate the horrible smell, and she possessed no magic charms or spells that could do anything more than deaden her own sense of smell. The stink remained, and to her great displeasure, flowers wilted whenever she walked past them.

This was ridiculous.

Her lifelong habits insisted that she dress her best when going outside, but she had no desire to ruin any of her clothing. What was more, if she walked around smelling like this, her reputation as a lady was at stake! No, this could not be. She had a decision to make, and while she balked at the idea of moving about in a disguise for non-criminal-catching purposes, admittedly she was too opposed to the consequences of being herself.

Using her wand, she scraggled her hair and wrinkled her skin, donning her sweats and silently mourning the loss of future comfort (because she would never be able to wear them again once the stink consumed them too). Bloating herself to appear seventy pounds heavier, she left her apartment cautiously. No one was watching? Excellent. It was time to be off.

Despite her disguise, she still walked as she usually did with crisp brisk steps, her (now blue) eyes fixed intently on the walk ahead.

The sky was heavy with grey clouds, and she heard a warning rumble of thunder.

Bollocks.

Cherise walked faster. If it started to rain, her disguise would melt! She had to be quick!

She all but tore a shopping cart from its stacks and wheeled the ungainly thing into the supermarket. People recoiled, making disgusted faces at her, but she ignored them. She went straight for the juice aisle, and immediately began loading up her cart with every single container and bottle of tomato juice that she could find. Where magic failed, tradition would have to take its place.

Cherise paused, and looked at Fluttershy as though weighing the merits of accepting help. Once she began to wash, the liquid was bound to dissolve her illusion. But what would a pony care how a human appeared?

She rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "I...admit that I can't seem to be rid of the smell with my own knowledge or spells. I attempted a charm to make myself smell like roses, but it only accompanied the stink rather than replacing it. So if you know a method that I do not, then I would be in your debt."

"Well there are many normal methods one can use. The juice you are using for example is one. Products made especially for that type of smell is also useful. I'm not exactly sure where they are sold around here, but it's always helpful." She said as she started to pause and think about what other methods there were, but those two were off the top of her head for now.

This was one of the downfalls of growing up in a magic-dependent sort of world. Cherise didn't know the first thing about ordinary remedies. Perhaps if she had her mother's book of potioncraft, this wouldn't have been a problem. But it wasn't something that Cherise had arrived with, and she only knew a few recipes by heart.

None of them were useful for this kind of situation.

"It seems I must rely on your expertise," she admitted with a grim smile, placing her fingertips to her forehead. "Are you quite certain this is what you want? The odor isn't exactly pleasant, and I'm loathe to force that upon anyone undeserving." Like a kind little pink-haired pegasus, for example.

"Oh, I don't mind. I mean I've dealt with thing type of thing before, so the smell is something I've grown use to." She said with a sweet smile. "Besides, if it's like a skunk then it won't be so bad. After all the smell to them to to defend themselves."

She nods slightly, after all she liked to help as best as she could.

So it had come to this. Cherise wasn't a prideful person by nature; if she needed help, she accepted it. It would seem condescending to refuse, particularly at such a low point. She chuckled and shook her head. All that remained was an exchanging of names, and she would prefer to do that once no one was around to see her enchantment melt away.

"You have my thanks. Now then." She moved behind her cart and threw her weight against it to get the heavy thing rolling. One shopping cart could only carry so much juice with ease. "Is there anything else we require, or shall I ring us up, then?"

Fluttershy had quietly started to trot behind slightly, keeping an eye out for anything that might be needed, picking up a couple of things for just in case and putting them in her basket.

"No, that should be all."

Cherise nodded, taking up Fluttershy's basket and placing it in her shopping cart. "I'll pay for you. No objections now, it's the least I can do for your help and support." The glamored sorceress smiled a wrinkly smile, a twinkle appearing in her dull eyes before she shoved the cart into a checkstand and paid for the juice as well as the pegasus's groceries.

She wheeled the cart outside, and with a few quick syllables of French, a flick of her wand enchanted the heavy bottles of tomato juice and coaxed them up into the air. They trailed after Cherise like a line of ducklings.

"I'll drop the disguise after we reach my apartment. I couldn't bear to be seen in public while smelling like this," she explained.

Fluttershy kept quiet for the meantime, she wasn't sure if she should really let them pay, but before she could truly speak up it had been too late. "Oh, uh...okay then..." She said mostly to herself as she trailed behind, but it wasn't until she saw the bottles floating that she was a little impressed.

"You can do magic too? I mean, I can't, but I know a couple of friends who do." With a nod, she understood, after all not many people would want to be seen or in this case smelt with that smell.

"Most can, in my world," Cherise replied. "Those who abuse it for criminal purposes can be stripped of the ability, if the offense is severe. But the practice is common, and the use is highly varied."

Honestly, she could discuss magic for hours if given the opportunity. She loved the little laws, and the wide variety of uses and practitioners. It was a fascinating study.

"There are some in other countries who make use of magic by tattooing specific images on their bodies, activated with a touch. I daresay such magic would be useful for more covert operations. My spells can't be activated without words of powers, for example."

"But that sounds awfully painful to go through just to do magic" She said ears down as she wasn't sure why people would want to do such a thing. "I mean, I could never do magic so I honestly wouldn't know, but it still sounds pretty bad. but you like the idea at least, so it's good, right?"

"I've never been crazy about the idea of tattoos myself, to be perfectly honest," Cherise admitted. "But some people wear them solely for artistic distinction, even if there's no magic attached. I had to talk my husband out of getting some silly dragon tattoo he wanted to wind around his arm. It took weeks of arguing," she chuckled, remembering the event fondly.

"Regardless, tattoo magic does have its uses, and is more popular in African and Indian civilizations. I hear it's starting to spread in North America as well. I must admit, having one or two back-up uses of magic could be useful. But diversification rarely works well except for those truly gifted with the understanding of magic..."

Cherise paused, then uttered a soft 'hm' as she knuckled her lip. "...I'm rambling, aren't I? Do forgive me."

"Oh, it's no bother, really. If someone wants to talk, I'm not going to stop them." She said as she continued to trot on, she was kind that way she figured and she knew some people liked to talk so why not just let them when they can.

"It sounds as though you know a lot about your world, I find that to be a rather good thing at least, especially when we're in a strange place."

"I suppose I must, given my profession," she admitted. "But I don't wish to be selfish. I'm far more interested in hearing what your world must be like," Cherise smiled. "Where I'm from, the only pegasus you're likely to see is an illustration in a book, or a creation in a movie."

She turned the corner, taking the shortest and most direct path toward her apartment. Those clouds were looking ominous; she wanted to make sure she got home before it started to rain. If it did, not only would her disguise melt, but the floating charm on the bottles of juice would dissolve and she'd have to figure out how to carry everything home on her own...a prospect she hardly relished.

"Oh, really. I've seen a lot of people here who were surprised to see me. I....Didn't think such a thing was possible at the time.... So I guess like with people to me in our world we don't have hewmans, or people. We have one zebra though and she speaks with Haiku's. She was very spooky when we first met her." She said ears down, it was an event she would rather never ever bring up again. Flutterguy must never be repeated ~~until an episode that deems it necessary~~.

"We live in peace at least, thoughb we get the odd thing happen from time to time, but other than that, earth ponies, pegasi and unicorns all get along in harmony."

"That does sound ideal," Cherise noted, almost forlornly. Her world was far from peaceful, but...she was accustomed to it being that way. It wasn't until someone actually brought up the possibility of peace and harmony that it reminded her a world of strife and murder was far from the norm.

She opened the door to her apartment building, and not a moment too soon. The first drop of rain spattered on the pavement. Cherise shot it a disdainful, smug look, as though to silently boast that she'd made it.

"Quickly, let's get inside before the rain really starts in." She gave a sweeping motion with her pale and pudgy hand, ushering in the bottles of tomato juice while holding the door open for Fluttershy.

"Ah, thank you very much" Fluttershy said with a smile before she trotted in. When she entered she started to look around, she was somewhat curious to see what another place would be like, but she soon stops when she realizes that it might seem a tiny bit rude.

"Your place looks lovely." She said trying to think of at least something to say before focusing on the tomato juice. "Right, it's best to use the tomato juice in a place where it is easy to clean should you make a mess."

"Thank you," she smiled, inclining her head. The tomato juice bottles bunched up together once she shut the door, as if they weren't sure where to go next. "I do try to keep it neat should company arrive."

Not that she'd had any visitors since giving Jaune that potions lesson, but that was her own fault for not being more outgoing.

"The bathroom, then," she decided, and lead the way. "Before we get started, would you care for anything to eat or drink?"

She shakes her head slightly, there wasn't anything that she needed to eat or drink right now. "No, I'm fine right now. I think it's best to get rid of the smell first, right?"

She gave a small smile, being kind and helping is the good first step at least.

If it was at all possible. At this point, Cherise was skeptical, but desperate. "Quite right," she agreed, squaring her shoulders and marching toward the bathroom. The tomato juice followed.

The bathroom wasn't particularly large. There was a tub with shower curtains, and perhaps enough space to take a few steps before turning around, but Fluttershy might find the room a bit cramped. The sorceress hunkered over the tub's edge and pushed down the stopper to ensure nothing went down the drain before she intended it to. Then she uncapped one bottle, poured in the juice, and set it neatly aside. The next jug followed. Then the next.

Even with every bottle emptied, the tub was only 1/3 full at most. She bit her lip, furrowing her brow uncertainly. Was she supposed to just...roll around in this? Add water? But that might dilute it. She looked at her companion in a silent bid for advice.

Fluttershy had made her way to the bathroom, but managed to stay just outside and somewhat tell what was going on. She paused for a moment when it was all empty, thinking of what the next best move would be. It was a couple of minutes before an idea hit her.

"Usually, my friends who had been sprayed would simply roll it in, but uh... they were wild animals and usually don't like actual baths. But in this case, maybe finding a jug might be a god start and use that when you use it to wash."

Cherise's shoulders rose and fell with a mighty sigh. She did have a bath bucket, though she'd never used it for anything more than holding her nice soaps and bathing accessories. Rolling around in tomato juice...please don't let her sink that low, she was plenty ashamed as it stood!

Kicking off her shoes...which turned into pumps as soon as they left her feet...Cherise carefully eased herself into the tub, clothes and all. She would never be able to wear this outfit again, and that was a great shame. Turning out her soaps, she took up the empty bucket, closed her eyes, and scooped up half a gallon of juice to pour it over her head.

As the red dribbled down her face and clumped in her hair, her ratty disguise melted. Gray scraggly hair turned short and dark, plastered to her cheek. Wrinkles tightened, and her body grew more slender. The misery, though, that stayed put. She shuddered. The juice wasn't exactly warm. "At least I smell like tomatoes now," she murmured unhappily. "It's a step up."

Fluttershy was a little bit surprised at the sudden change, but she considered it to be magic, much like something Twilight would use back home. She went to fetch a towel for her when she was done, keeping quiet for the meantime.

"It's a least better than what it was before.... But it means it worked so now you can probably wash normally and smell much better"

"I wonder..." Cherise wasn't entirely convinced that the smell was gone. But the tomato juice aroma was certainly strong. She swished the bucket through the red goop, and with a shudder, poured the contents over her head. It dribbled down the back of her collar. She could never wear these clothes again, she was sure no enchantment in the world could save them. But so be it. She wasn't entirely sure she could look at them without a phantom scent immediately attached to trigger the memory of that embarrassing moment.

"You've been very kind," she noted, glancing back at the little pegasus. "Surely there must be something I can do to return the favor?"

She simply shakes her head slightly, she herself didn't mind just simply being kind, she never expected a favour to be returned in the first place.

"It's fine, I wanted to help with no catches." It helps when one is the element of kindness in her world because it was in her nature to be that way in the first place. "If you need anything else while your in there, I'll be happy to fetch it."

"Even so," Cherise countered, "you were of great aid when I needed it." She hadn't judged the sorceress at all, not even wrinkling her muzzle at the stench. Fluttershy simply accepted the situation and tried to improve it. "Your kindness was very valuable to me."

She thought for a moment, about to decline, but...she couldn't exactly use her summoning charms in a pool of liquid, even if it wasn't water. And she was not about to drip tomato juice all over her nice clean floors.

"Perhaps a change of clothes, if you wouldn't mind? Or just a towel would suffice if you're unsure of what human women wear." She wanted to take a shower and go back to feeling like herself again.

"Change of clothes or a towel" She muttered as she headed off, trying to find her way around and taking her sweet time doing in. When she found the place for clothes all she could do is simply stare... So many outfits and he other was right, she had no idea how human woman wore clothes or what would match. But she knew how ponies might have done it, so choosing a could of things she headed back, grabbing a clean towel as she went before returning back to the bathroom.

"I'm back, hopefully the clothes I brought will work together." She said carefully putting them on a surface that wouldn't end up getting wet with tomato juice and the towel was close by.

Cherise lifted her chin to see what Fluttershy had brought. A black pencil skirt and a flowery silk shirt? That would do. No stockings, but...she supposed she could do without them for one day. After all, she had no intentions of venturing beyond her safe little apartment for the rest of the day, not until she was entirely certain that the smell was long gone. If it wasn't, she was confident that it had been loosened enough for her magic to be effective.

"Those will do nicely, thank you." She stood up, dripping with reddish juice, and turned on the faucet. She rinsed off her hands, then flicked the droplets into the tub. "Please do excuse me. You may make yourself comfortable in the living room if you wish to remain."

Fluttershy was glad that she didn't think they're were too bad... At least she assumed it was such, but she knew that she had to go soon and deal with animals that were currently at home, so she figured now was the time she went back.

"I should really get going, the dogs are at home and they are probably starting to get hungry."

Cherise inclined her head with a slightly amused smile. A pegasus with pet dogs... Would wonders never cease? "I wouldn't wish to keep you, then. Please don't hesitate to ask should you need anything. I won't forget your kindness easily."

Once Fluttershy had gone, she heaved a great sigh, and let the hot water fall over her face. Today hadn't been nearly as terrible as she'd expected.
