WHO: Yukiko Amagi and Cassian Andor
WHAT: Meeting of the newbie Guardians
WHEN: July 2nd, noon
WHERE: Fayren, guardian's office
WARNINGS: None so far

Like promised, Cassian makes his way to the Guardian's office in Fayren the day after their text conversation. He's already carrying a bag with some small trinkets and groceries he has bought, the results of having spent the better part of the morning playing tourist in Fayren.

He's looking pleasant enough as he makes his way to Yukiko's office, but his wariness at her needing to talk to him has returned.

Still, he greets her with something that is almost a smile. "You have a beautiful town, Yukiko. The fish market is one of the best I've been to."

Yukiko had been here since early morning, puzzling through a few things, mostly paperwork. After all, she had to play catch up since the last Guardian had been gone for some time at this point.

When she heard the door, she was quick to look up with a smile of her own. "Well it's really the natives town, they do a good job of making it what it is for the most part. Hard working as well."

With that, she places the papers to the side for the time being. "Please take a seat."

"Thank you," Cassian said as he took the offered seat, careful to keep his body language open and friendly despite his tension.

"And if I'm not mistaken you're too humble. I hear you've done a great deal for this town and the others." She'd won a tough election, too, but bringing that up might be rude. "I've heard good things about Heals on Wheels, for one thing, though I haven't been able to visit any of your inns till today. It's a shame you haven't opened one in Attleton yet."

"I've only really been helpful in the healing area, but I'm hoping to do more now than I could have before." Either way, she would have been doing something during the time, even if it would have been in another city with another inn.

"It's a future plan in the works, more so for new arrivals to have a choice of city they want to stay in for around two weeks That... is meant to be the plan anyway. But First things first before I get I do need to mention the thing I said I needed to first."

She coughed slightly for a moment. "You are aware of subarchways, correct?"

Alright, and here they were coming to the purpose of this visit. Cassian felt a little relieved for it, as it should be easier to deal with the actual matter of hand than keep up the pleasant chitchat. He could do it, but it was always the part he liked least about missions.

"I do." He nodded firmly, face turning more solemn. "In my personal life they've never been of interest to me, but I know that dangerous subarchways are a concern to guardians."

"That is correct. More so when they have been used in order to do dangerous things. it's not necessarily because it is dangerous." Although in this case it probably is.

"You can ask your Dante for details since I believe he goes there sometimes, but there is a subarchway I would like to be kept an eye on. Not like 24/7 type deal but at least once a day so no one accidentally goes into it or anyone who might use it for bad purposes due to the inside...well... How do I phrase this." After she was done talking for the moment to think about it, she started to tap her finger lightly on her chin.

"If you have a part of yourself that you do not like... It will form into a shadow. Pretty much you go in that archway like that, odds are likely you'd get one. That's why I want someone to keep an eye on it."

"Hmm... I'll ask Dante, he takes care of the subarchways, but I believe I know what subarchway you are speaking of. There's one that was already forbidden for visitors under Guardian Blaze."

He regarded Yukiko thoughtfully. When K-2SO had argued for adopting Fayren's dolls, Cassian had actually thought of using them to guard the subarchways to save manpower, but making any such promises now was far too early when he hadn't even spoken once to the puppeteer.

"I see, I'll keep the subarchway closed, I already have some plans to guard them more extensively, and I'll ensure my deputies are very careful, too." He wouldn't be going in there, for one. "Can these shadows escape?"

"That's correct, although I believe Dante used it for training, which honestly isn't a bad idea." Because it means you are training for battle and training to deal with them should they somehow by magic get out of there.

"As for if they can escape, just like all other subarchways they cannot unless guided by someone with a necklace or one of us. Much like the natives here in order to go from archway to archway."

He nods, though Cassian keeps looking slightly concerned. With his own backstory it still seems like training wouldn't be worth the risk, but...

"I'll speak to Dante, and discuss training sessions with the team. In principle, I agree with everything which provides realistic training conditions, and preparing for a breach is always useful."

He leans forward, returning his facial expression to the earlier pleasantness. "Thank you for informing me of these concerns. I appreciate it."

She nodded slightly, it helped her a little bit as she could not be confident about it being well looked after.

With that well and truly out of the way, she placed her hands lightly on her lap for the time being.

"I know that is all I needed to bring up, but is there anything you wanted to discus?"

"Magic." He hsd obviously thought about this for a while as there was no hesitation to his voice. "I'm not equipped to handle magical problems and while I have recruited with an eye on such skills we don't have the expertise of Fayren. My aim is for us to hire our own experts on call for magical dangers but until then it would be helpful to know we can rely on the Fayren office for advice."

He shrugging slightly. "Hopefully there will be no need for it. But realistically if I were a magic user seeing to cause trouble I would do it in the town least equipped to handle me."

"I'd be more than willing to offer advice, the deputies I hired also come in various forms of magic as well, so if I am unaware of a certain style there might be another who would know more."

She paused, they could never really be too sure about anything, besides they all need to work together now and again. That was what she thought.

"Besides, I believe that even though we each work in a different city, we still need to work together."

Cassian nodded. It was going well, and he found himself relaxing again, though he didn't bother with the overt friendliness that was more mask than anything else.

"I agree. Each of our guardian offices may operate as a self-reliant cell under its own leadership, but we do need to cooperate and coordinate for the good of all. I'd appreciate knowing I have your support, and knowing I have access to your experts. In return, I put my own resources at your disposal." He smiled slightly. "I believe with this we will both be stronger."

"More so in situations where it could affect all the cities or more than just the one." Like what happened just before the whole election. The help Fayren got Yukiko was glad for but felt like more could have been done.

"I just... Don't know how exactly to be able to go about that just yet. But this feels like a good starting point."

"Well, some of my campaign promises implied a get-together of the Guardians, whether in person or via communicators. Discussing both security, and ground rules for the power Guardians should have, or not have, and how abuse can be prevented. If it comes to such a gathering, it would be a good opportunity to bring up your concerns as well."

He took another sip of tea, letting his gaze wander to the window, and the town beyond.

"But I agree, our cooperation would be a good beginning."

"I am aware of Guardians who have abused their power in the past, but usually when elections roll around those types tend to get ousted fast. But pretty much most Guardians know what they can and can't do. Or at least the ones that have been doing it for a while." And because of what she has soon, she had some definite ideas as to what it was.

"It's just finding the perfect time, to be able to get everyone."

"So I've heard, but it still seems wrong to me that people should be forced to endure mismanagement for half a year. There doesn't seem to be an awful lot of checks and balances in this place. I come from a democracy that slipped into a dictatorship, I find it disturbing."

He nods. "But regardless of that, yes, finding a time that suits everyone will be hard. Maybe to start out with an informal gathering, for only those whom the date suits."

"It wasn't a full six months in that story I mentioned. At best it was two months. But I agree it's still bad." She leant back in her seat for a moment.

"But having checks like that....how would one actually go about it. We have no way of knowing our pasts, only things we have done here." She tapped her chin briefly.

"What would the date be for that then?"

"I'm not thinking of judging people based on their past actions, but rather to agree on firm boundaries how much a Guardian is allowed to infringe the rights of their citizens in the name of security." He gives a small shrug. "But that's really a discussion for later, not one to be had over tea. I haven't thought about the date for such a meeting, to be honest. So far..." His gaze goes distant for a moment before he forces himself back into the present, and to her. "It's been one thing after the other since the day I learned Blaze left, and I had won the election by default."

An election he had never expected to win, or been braced for what would follow, least of all with so many enemies from home popping up.

"I know where my limits would be. Basically, security being enforced in everyone's houses where they are going to constantly be watched all day. That for me is rather creepy and wrong."

Yukiko paused for a moment before speaking up again. "Yeah, though on the upside you have taken to it well even if it was only because of it being a default."

Cassian nodded as she named her line in the sand. Good to know.

He gave a little shrug. "Being thrown into unusual new circumstances and having to improvise is part of my job but this is something different. It'll take me a while to adjust. I heard you ran before. You must have been well prepared."

"I was prepared this time, yes. Not so much the last time." She was at least aware of that now and had come to learn from her mistakes, even if some of her thoughts were the same in certain areas.

"But it does give you that time to really prepare, but usually people don't always try again after losing the first time." She taps her finger lightly against her cheek.

"The only downside to it was someone having a grudge on me from something I said the last time but hadn't this time around. They seemed hell-bent on making sure to threaten me if I won and changed one thing." It was why she was planning on making sure it was known that wasn't okay by not letting him know anything about what she was planning with Fayren. She was not going to reward him for that.

"Because of that I am refusing to give him any idea of my plans"

Cassian nods as he listens to her explanation, but by the end of it he is frowning slightly. "Honestly, that sounds..." Worrisome? He would be worried, but that could be too blunt and rude to say to an almost-stranger. "...like a delicate situation. I'm glad I don't have to deal with anything of the sort yet."

He picks up his tea cup again, though it's empty. "But you sound like you have this situation well in hand." He lets a heartbeat. "Does it happen often that Guardians are threatened by disgruntled citizens?"

"Very delicate considering." It was someone she would admit before seemed like someone who cared. Now to her they just seemed like someone who didn't want change from the Satori Guardian period.

"I have to, otherwise people would see that as well... People wouldn't think you'd be able to do the job right." With that she smiled slightly.

"I think that I was the first."

"People are always going to be critical. It's their right for having elected us, and having the right to deny us re-election, and supervise us while we are in office..." But dealing with such direct scrutiny wasn't something he enjoyed, even as he understood the necessity of it.

"I'm glad to hear threats aren't common. I think most Guardians wouldn't respond well to them."

"That is true, but at least so far not really had many problems." She made sure to go out there as often as she could.

But she moved slightly to bow before moving to step up "If there is nothing else, I should really head back to my office. But you are right, some might not. I know of some who would respond very well also though."
