[Did you subscribe to The Genessia Tribune? Did you even remotely wish you had a newspaper or some other form of media to refer to for news, weather, and current events? Then you're in luck! There's a paperboy riding through the streets of Genessia flinging newspapers onto doorsteps or, if you're unlucky, through your window. Even remote locations in the other cities will still get a paper if one of the residents ever wanted one. The Paperboy is just that dedicated.]

Delirium Trouble

The Vampire Club Delirium has been closed temporarily after an incident inside of the club. Friday night, customers of the club found themselves suddenly closed inside of the building. Before any attempts to escape could be made, all the vampires inside were killed by what was described as a bright white light. All that was left of the Vampires were their bones.

A few humans that work at the establishment were left unharmed by the attack. Its speculated that the targets of the attack were members of the vampire group Darkvale, as shortly after they arrived was when the attack went off. This is the second attack to happen at Delirium and speaking to the owners they are extremely frustrated with that fact. They have said they will be taking steps to stop another attack like this from happening.

The Future of Lingerie is Here!

Juliet’s Lair, owned by Everglade City Guardian Grell Sutcliff, has acquired a patent for new holographic technology that further expands on the already available holographic clothing of daily life. The new line of holographic lingerie, Hard Light, will be open to beta testing as of next week. The aim of Hard Light is to be able to cater to customers of all body types to provide a flattering image without the guesswork of finding the right size and cut. It will be the perfect size each and every time.

The technology will be sold at a reduced price in very limited quantities and a testing period will commence in order work out bugs, receive feedback, and improve features. Currently, a website for this exclusive line of clothing is already up for viewing what is available, including a new range of online only designs, yet no purchases can be made just yet. A select choice of clothing samples will be available to beta users until the trial period is over. Those who wish to join the beta pool should register on the website as soon as possible.

Traditional, physical lingerie is still available for purchase in store.

Garde Gone

Magicgarde, a group that has made it their mission to snuff out the Hands of Decay as well as their sympathizers in Fayren have disappeared. The door to their base of operations in Fayren was found open and reveals that a battle of sorts had taken place inside. Destroyed objects and surfaces as well as large amounts of blood was found inside of building, however there have been no bodies discovered inside of the building.

People that live near the base can’t recall ever hearing any noise coming from inside. After questioning family members of group members, it has been discovered that they all gathered for a meeting. It’s suspected that what ever attack happened then, because no member of the group has been seen or heard from since.

This marks the second group of individuals from Fayren that have come under attack. However unlike the first attack, there doesn’t appear to be any witnesses left over from this one. An ongoing investigation into the incident is underway.

Backbreaker - A man obsessed with wrestling have been putting people in the hospital by randomly attacking them and performing moves upon them. A level 2 payment is being offered for his capture.

Nova City

Food Hunter - A man has been targeting people that visit fast food restaurants and murdering them. Each of their victims have uneaten fast food items next to their bodies. A level 2 payment is being offered to anyone that can capture the culprit.

Everglade

Distorted - A black magic user has been causing a disturbance by creating illusions and confusing people while they are out. This has lead to accidents with people suffering minor to major injuries. A level 1 payment is being offered for anyone that can bring in the culprit.

Fayren

Shadow Summoner - A summoner has creatures 6 shadow creatures that have been responsible for several murders and kidnappings in Fayren. All of the shadow creatures have the ability to move through shadows to travel quickly, though they each have skills specific to them. A level 3 payment is being offered for the defeat of each creature. A level 2 bounty is being offered for the Summoner themselves as well.

Shadow Knight - Strong in both defense and offense with a large sword.

Shadow Stalker - Skilled at hunting and springing sneak attacks on unsuspecting targets.

Shadow Monstrosity - Large and highly resistant to physical damage. Can control and shoot out fire.

Shadow Demon - Can fly and absorb light to create areas of pitch black darkness.

Shadow Hound - Small and quick with the ability to control shadows. Controlling a person’s shadow controls the person as well.

Shadow Serpent - Fast with incredible evasive abilities. Cutting off one head will cause it to grow a new head as well as grow larger and the severed head to grow its own body.

Title: Jolly Eddy’s: Escort Service, or Evil Saboteurs?

Everglade is not a safe place. Guardian Grell’s racially divisive policies and revolting visage have cemented this fact deep into the collective psyche of its citizens. And who can blame them? The world turns a blind eye to their plight, using its fear to fuel the rest of the world’s safety. Its laws are by far the most barbaric and monstrous in all of Genessia, and some prefer it that way. For those who don’t, local law enforcement offers little solace. Who can these terrified citizens turn to with political corruption and deadly decadence around every turn?

For some, that place is “Jolly Eddy’s”, a privately owned Security Escort Service. Headed by Namur, a retired pirate, they seek to make a quick buck off the insecurities of the fearful. If you’ve got the money, they’ll happily walk you along uncertain paths, leeching off the city’s anxiety.

But all is not as it seems for this parasitic practice. Rumor has it that those who would employ these escorts are not as secure as Jolly Eddy’s would have them believe. Multiple patrons claim that, sometimes moments after arrival, their destinations would be ransacked, burned, and otherwise destroyed. Some even allege that their own persons were brutally beaten once their journeys reached their painful ends. I called their office for comment, and received this sanitized PR dodge:

“While we deeply regret any misfortune that should befall our clientele, we at Jolly Eddy’s hasten to remind that we are not, upon completion, bodyguards. We will take you to and fro wherever you should like to go, but our services end upon the final step. As Mr. Emerson said, ‘life is a journey, not a destination.’ We're exclusively focused the former. Nonetheless, Jolly Eddy’s offers its sincere sympathies to the afflicted, and hopes to continue mutually profitable adventures with all who’d like to be shadowed safely.”

So far, so unhelpful. I decided to get to the bottom of this, and tracked down Jolly Eddy’s self-proclaimed, number one customer. I present, unedited, the resultant interview. Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Tasha: Thank you for agreeing to speak with me, Arnold.

A: How did you find me? Are you part of them? The gibbering bloodhounds that seek my flesh and would wring what secrets it holds?

T: I’m a reporter.

A: You’re vermin. Ask your questions.

T: You claim to have patronized Jolly Eddy’s more than anyone in Everglade. What’s your take?

A: Their obits would give me great pleasure and profound relief.

T: You don't like them? But if that’s the case, why do you use their services so often?

A: Because I am a fool. Because I delude myself, and think there’s some profit in arraying the greater against the lesser shadows. So long as I offer worldly treasures, otherworldly horrors will leave me alone and unmolested. Yet I know the vanity; when the plover ceases to glean the alligator’s teeth, its jaws will snap, and I will be consumed in its bleak maws.

T: You think they’re what people should be afraid of? So much that they frighten the small fry?

A: Is it not plain!? What but pure abomination can walk the streets of Everglade with confidence? What but unbound horror can be at ease, knowing the sordid streets as a gypsy knows a palm? Them. It is wise to fear the termites crawling out of the woodwork. It is wiser still to fear the carpenter who knows their tread.

T: I see. Tell me about their employees in particular. You’ve hired each of them at least once, right?

A: To my everlasting regret.

T: All right. Give me a run down

A: There’s Namur, the proprietor. He is large, heavy-laden with sin. He defiles every sense; offends and invades every orifice with his filth. His voice is like a small, woodland creature being strangled, but never knowing death's release. His narrow face is bloated and pale, like a drowned corpse. His gangly limbs are affixed to an inversely thick mound of flesh. His words are rife with unholy profanity. And the stench.

T: How did he smell?

A: I'd vomit to recall. He wore no shoes.

T: Any others?

A: Yes. There is Sync, the carrion fowl. He wears the mask of a plague doctor. His hair is the color of bile. He hardly speaks, except to issue curt imperatives. “Go here, turn here. Keep your head down.” He perches often on the city heights, like a gargoyle. It is as if he were always waiting, with blank eagerness, for my death, so that he might feast upon my entrails first. And he is so young. What diseased womb did they pluck him from? What rancid egg hatched that winged wretch?

T: I didn’t know they hired kids.

A: Rot knows no age.

T: Does it know sex? Seems like a boys' club so far. I mean, I know they're not *that* kind of escort service, but maybe a more feminine touch would-

A: It wouldn't. Yes, there is something like a woman there: Koishi. Like the most potent terrors, she is invisible. At first, I demanded another escort, or at least my money back. They assured me, with their tar-stained lips, that I was under the best of care, however unseen. Afraid of stoking their umbrage, I was forced to wander the streets, perilously alone with naught the but their honey-sweet promises to assure me.

I heard noises, as I traveled. Omnipresent; inexplicable. Giggling, sometimes, always chillingly near yet not near enough to truly know. What sin, I wondered, did I commit to be haunted by something which refused all sight? All perception? Yet I did make it to my destination, and received, as a reward, the sight of a single, pulsating eye. I fled, counting my prior blindness as a mercy forsaken.

T: Invisible escorts, huh? That's new. Guess they have something for people who like their privacy. But what if you want someone to talk to? None of them sound all that conversational. Unless you don't mind some r-rated language, I guess.

A:...There is the clown.

T: Does "the clown" have a name?

A: To speak its name is to bid it come.

T: Like Bloody Mary? I understand. So was it a "ha ha" clown, or...?

A: There are no "ha ha" clowns.

T: All right, let's not be coy. What did this clown do?

A: What my brain would burst to bear. Ask any more of that, and I'm liable to blow mine out.

T: Fair enough. What do you make of the rumors surrounding them? That Jolly Eddy's uses their clientele's destinations as targets for destruction?

A: Vain.

T: Could you be more specific?

A: Utterly vain.

T: More elaborate, then.

A: What in all the infinite intensities of inferno would it matter if they did? What is an edifice broken? What is a body destroyed? It's like smashing an infested auger plate with a hammer. The pieces will scatter and spread their sickness with them. The darkness cannot be reduced. It can only be redistributed, in increasingly vile and incomprehensible forms.

T: But don't you think that, if true, they're violating the spirit of their business by using their own customers as-

A: Your words become buzzing. Speech reduced to noise. Begone.

I couldn't get any more answers out of Andrew, though I did see Andrew walk in the direction of Jolly Eddy's again, presumably to schedule another escort. A service Andrew could not live with nor without. The last words I heard from Andrew came in a whimper. "Please," Andrew seemed to plead, "Not the clown."

Grell will do her best to beef up security and such, but are there any clues, such as any residue from this white light or suspicious people lingering outside, from this incident?

The only seemingly suspicious people lingering around are vampires. And they were either about to come to or were leaving the club. There aren't any reports of lingering residue from what happened.

Hmm...that's even more suspicious...

Grell thinks there is a mole/betrayer in Darkvale, because how else would anyone know if members of that group would be there? Even if they frequented it, once they got inside, the bright light went off, so it can't be a coincidence. Or someone posing as a vampire, at the least, but that seems like a reach. Or one of the human workers who sympathizes with Hollowed Union or dislikes Darkvale enough to help the zombies.

So is there a way to chat with the owner of Delirium about who worked there that night (and why were they still alive?? are they not vampires??), as well as chat with those higher in rank with Darkvale?

The people that lived are human. It was stated in the article. The owner of Delirium himself is a Vampire, but he was at a business meeting during the attack. He would tell her that the humans that work for them are loyal and above suspicion as far as they are concerned. He’ll tell her that anything they could tell her, she likely already knows. But if they somehow did come forward with information, she’d be the first to know. Though with how dismissive he’d be, it’s obvious that that wouldn’t be the case.

The higher ranks in Darkvale would decline to chat with her. In their group, they prefer to handle things in house, so if they were to believed that they had a traitor, they’d take care of the situation themselves. Not to mention they aren’t fans of authority.

Grell would thank the owner for the information and tell him that she certainly hopes any new information would be brought to her as soon as possible, otherwise without his cooperation the club would have to be permanently closed to the public until the culprit is found. It's not a threat of any sort, as she'll state, but an obvious conclusion since vampires are being killed in his bar, and who knows if the culprit will stop with just them. She believes bars like this are necessary for Everglade, and doesn't want it to be closed for long. If he wants extra security, she can find the means to provide it.

As for Darkvale, she can't really blame them for not being fans of authority, and would wish them luck, but also hopes they do take the possibility of a traitor seriously.

He’ll tell her that if she wants him to keep the place closed, she’ll need to deliver a written order from the Guardians office instructing him to do so. He wouldn’t accept any security that she has to offer as he’d have his own if he were staying open. But if she’s shutting him down, he doesn’t see how it would matter.

They see no reason to ignore the notion that there could be a traitor and it wouldn’t be something that they themselves would be curious about.
