The recent fights and events here held too many rules to show any test of real skill.

[His pride may still be hurting over a disqualification during his very first fencing match during the Games.]

How well can any of you wield a true weapon? How many have cut down their foes in battle?

It is strange to merely fight for trinkets with such flimsy weapons.

[A little bitter over his loss? Maybe.]

[Karla sighs. This was the primary reason she didn't even bother signing up for the fencing competition.]

Indeed. It seems that these games were more for sport than anything, with safety being a high priority.

I'm more used to serious duels, and I've struck down many opponents in the different arenas that I've visited...

They certainly do, especially seeing some of the other games that were part of that...event...

Of course not. They were just games. They were for fun.

[She just shrugs.]

Well, if you think fun is pointless...

There's still skill involved.

[ In the end, she got bronze. Not quite what she was aiming for. ]

I use my spear, Gungnir, in a life or death battle.

Some enjoy fencing nonetheless.

[ She looks thoughtful. ]

So, how skilled are you?

The question is, do you stay in an HQ, or join the field of battle yourself?

[ She's known, through proxies since she looks like a child, many generals like that. ]

Then you're a more impressive general than many I've known.

[ She looks thoughtful. ]

I'd be most interested in seeing your skills...

I think the coliseum would be suitable. As for time, whenever is convenient will do.

[Someone sounds bitter.]

The games were mean to be fun, not to show who's the absolute best at everything. Sometimes the real skill is to do your best while still following the rules. That's the hard part.
k2so: (Wow you are so tiny)

[personal profile] k2so 2017-08-08 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
There's plenty of rule I do not like, that doesn't mean we don't have to follow them sometimes.

Did you not have fun battling others for a while?
k2so: (Stare)

Ah, that's a good option too. The Colosseum si always open though, and killing your ponen is still allowed there, if you ever want to sort out a disagreement.

I don't use a sword. I use my fist to beat enemies into submission and blow them away with my grenades.

You sound like you're looking for a good fight.

That's combat sports for you. All the thrill of a real fight, little of the danger as long as you follow the rules. No surprise only trophies would be at stake.

If you think a fencing match is to cut down your enemies, that was your first mistake. Fencing swords are rapier-style weapons. They're meant for quick jabs and precision, an ability to control yourself within extremely delicate circumstances. It may not be adaptable for your style of fighting, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have value.

[ Her whole style is a cross between fencing, ballet, and gymnastics. The only reason she didn't enter was because she expected to be potentially unconscious from shock ball. ]

Anyone who thinks it lacks merit because it's not their chosen method of combat is a moron.

[ SORRY GRIEVOUS, BUT YOU LEGIT JUST INSULTED HER FIGHTING FOUNDATIONS. ]

And yet I've hit a joint gap on a robotic armor only big enough for the tip of my sword in the middle of a fight. Fencing isn't about wide strokes, but quick jabs and footwork. I learned it as one of the foundations for my own fighting, along with gymnastic and ballet influences. The only reason I didn't participate is because I had a feeling most people were going to be in the position of assuming it was a silly sport. There's no point in competing against a bunch of cretins who can't tell the difference between a foil, a rapier, and a broadsword. Who would want to compete only to have all of those who lost complain because they don't understand or respect your victory?

You want a real fight where your life is at risk. But what if you're in a situation where one wrong move could bring all of your surroundings down? It doesn't matter how fast you cut your enemies down if you're dead.

If fencing was an easy style to master, we both would have won. Just because we don't have the finesse for it doesn't mean we should be sore losers about it, Grievous.

Restraint is important too, on the battlefield or in a sparring match.

Yeah it was. Just not the kind we're used to.

I've done my share over the years. Didn't start out wanting to, but you do what you have to when your life and your loved ones lives are on the line.

[He doesn't know how close to home that might hit, depending on the timeline Grievous came from.]

Layin' on the salt a bit thick, don'tcha think?

Go learn the definition of "sport", bucko. If it were a Life or Death Battle Royale, they would'a said so. Maybe you oughta read the rules before you humiliate yourself again next time.

I believe that is because most of the events were sports in some way... Though very unusual choice of sports never the less.

So most sports tend to have rules people must follow.
